@@Cutzerella03 Rocket Metal is technically a character, as well as the egg robot used in the same cutscene, and the UFO, and they all have moves assigned by default (kind of, it's complicated), but they're all very buggy. Rocket Metal in particular will clip himself out of bounds under certain circumstances. Problem is, fixing them means breaking the attract screen, potentially permanently.
the funny thing is, there _is_ a stand-only character in hftf, being perhaps unsurprisingly death 13 you just don't hear about it much since, like eggman, it's a story mode-only boss character
I think knuckles sidestep getting stronger the more battered he is, is something really cool that fits his character in the games as he can be a bit of a berserker when things get really tough.

StF For evo now? Wow its finally happening. We've been waiting since forever but I'm glad StF will make it to main stage. It deserves it. One of the greatest games of all history.

It's much much easier. Plus, if you really want to play this game competitively in any way, you will need to be in the server to know about the tournaments and find people to play with either way.
Great to see this game getting attention! I hope they add in Rocket Metal soon. He was a favorite of mine and I played as him a LOT in the Arcade romhacks.
I hear "Sonic The Fighters modding community" and I'm like "uhh?!". Honestly, I didn't think it would happen. It would also be interesting to be able to change the AI of the base game, using basic movements from the competitive mode and making it more competent
this is hella nostalgic. i would grind this game in chuck-e-cheese as a child. it's where my love for fighting games started. love that its still being played
part of me feels weird about ketchup damage being removed and metal sonic and mech eggman being custom characters at this point, but I’m excited to see what comes out of this
Only complaint is that download for the patch is locked behind Discord… which I can no longer go on… for reasons involving internet safety. Happy for all the people who can play it, though.
Wonder if they made Rocket Metal a Mirror match skin for Metal, or if he's gonna be turned into his own character (he DOES have his own name graphic after all)
Another download holed up in an unarchiveable Discord? Come on, man. Please tell me the devs are smart enough to upload it to file hosts on the clearnet. Some place like github would be great. There's always a risk of these fan patches becoming lost media if the server gets nuked.
Yeah I understand its considered anti-competitive or whatever, but at the same time it’s part of the game’s identity and always kept games unpredictable and interesting.
based on the context, i have to wonder if turning it off is common practice for offline tournaments ( such as they are ) played on ps3, and the core of the change is really just achieving parity between online play and the main competitive ruleset alternatively, it might be more of an experimental change than anything, since it lets the entire community test the removal and feel out of it's better, worse, or would perhaps be better implemented as a weakening of ketchup's effects rather than a wholesale removal
Would be cool now that Eggman is playable and has some similar Knuckles properties to him that Honey finally got a more unique moveset and her hearteyes attack back.
I'd love to see what they can do with Super Sonic. Maybe if very specific conditions are met in a match, Sonic can transform into Super Sonic - he loses health over time (like the traditional ring-drain mechanic) and maybe you can still chip away his health, but he doesn't have any hitstun for most attacks.
What if STF had more playable characters in its original release? As in: Mighty, Ray, Charmy, Vector, Honey, various Eggman and Metal Sonic versions, the background robots, and everyone gets a Super & Hyper Form? And if both Japanese & English voices were available? And alternate story endings if the bad guys win?
Is a hacked romset available to use on a real arcade board of this? I'd love to know if I could burn a bunch of chips to support the additional characters.
there are talks about it. for now, theres still more work to be done to figure out exactly where the game stores stuff and how it works, and to make metal a bit more fair.
