Sonic The Hedgehog 3 Tempering Expectations

Sonic Adventure 2 is my favorite Sonic game. That being said, I don't expect Sonic 3 to fully adapt the game, just borrow key elements from it. Shadow's backstory and motivations, imo should be the main focus of the film. His relationship with Sonic is important as well, and I think that can be the major highlight for the film, since this version of Sonic has experienced loss like Shadow, which could make their relationship more complex. I can see this movie pushing its likely pg rating to its limit, this movie's tone will be darker given Shadow's introduction, but the first two Sonic movies have been surprisingly successful and enjoyable. Hopefully the filmmakers catch lightning thrice and make a fun movie. I will say that seeing the logo as well as hearing an instrumental of live and learn has me so excited for Sonic 3

I feel that Amy needs be in Movie 3 and she can bring in a unique dynamic with Sonic and Shadow and introduce the hedgehog lore in the movie universe which could also explain why Shadow is a hedgehog in the first place. Yes I know that she didn't do a whole lot in SA2 Besides breaking out Sonic and redeeming Shadow but since it will not be 1 to 1 with the game, they could give her an even better role than what the game offered and can give more interactions between her and Shadow even if they are enemies at first.

4:05 Yes! I 100% agree with you, Donut Lord and Pretzel Lady *should* be apart of the SA2 inspired plot. Glad I'm not the only one who genuinely likes them. They're pretty likeable, charming, good-natured and overall caring couple and it would be a shame to see them take a backseat again. Let them fight alongside their adopted sons give them some of Robotnik's tech and gadgets to use I dunno make them relevant to the third installment in some way, Paramount.

I agree that fans shouldn’t expect a 1:1 retelling of SA2 especially since these movies have really prided themselves on being accessible to newcomers to the franchise. However I think Maria is 100% going down in this movie but she’s most likely not getting shot. I’m willing to bet she’ll just succumb to her disease or something more PG. As for the Biolizard that’s 50/50 for me. With it being confirmed that Live and Learn will be in the movie I think there will be something for Sonic and Shadow to team up against in the end but it’s up in the air what that’ll be

Honestly, what would Biolizard add to Sonic 3 that CAN’T be done by Eggman? A bit of continuity? A reference fans can point at? It came out of nowhere in SA2, so I hardly think they’ll put it in Sonic 3 with everything else they have to set up and adapt

I still think it'll be close enough to the original to satisfy the SA2 fans. I know it'll take creative liberties, but not too many to separate it from the original.

Okay, I think they could actually do it. Now just because I think they CAN do it doesn’t mean they WILL do it sadly, and the past 2 films make me worried that the WILL part will come true, especially since Krysten Ritter has been cast as another non needed human character instead of Rouge as fans where hoping for. Just to show you what I mean let me explain some ideas I have. So Sonic gets captured in SA2 and put on a chopper at the start of that game so how does GUN capture him, well in this version they know where Sonic lives so they storm the house and capture Sonic along with Maddie and Tom, Sonic having to worry about his parents is a good weakness to catch him off guard and catch him, and with the human characters in prison they can keep them out of the story for the most part. For Rouge she could be a jewel thief and treasure hunter who already knows and has a rivalry with Knuckles, maybe chasing after him so she can steal the Master Emerald out from under him, after learning he has been staying on Earth she assumes it must be there and comes to steal it, putting her into conflict with the heroes and perhaps allying with Eggman, and maybe Amy Rose could be like a lackey for Rouge, someone she pushes over as Amy doesn’t have a whole lot of confidence, she could even be in her classic outfit at this point. Early on she could be separated from Rouge and ends up with the heroes and become friends with them, boosting her confidence and giving her her modern outfit at one point, and developing a crush on Sonic. We probably won’t get the Biolizard so just have Metal Sonic be the final boss, there’s enough there to set him up. And if we really want to push it, the chao could be a species created by Gerald as prototypes for the ultimate life form and we’ll see them on the Arc. Hey maybe Sonic and Shadow fight through some warp rings and go across multiple planets and on one of them we could get a Big the cat cameo, the writers have actually said they’re interested in giving him one. Now of course there are going to be changes, especially as to why they may be hunting for the chaos emeralds this time, but that’s just some ways I’ve thought about how it could be done, I know this is lengthy but let’s admit it my hopes are clearly very high and NONE of this will end up happening.

I just want Rouge & Amy honestly. I don’t care about this many human characters and im sure that others feel the same. Also, female characters being excluded… just sayin we need them

Hi! Great video! I didn't thought at all the worries you have before watching your video, but I thought in some of them. I know they won't make Sonic Adventure 2 the movie, a friend told me "the leaks" say there will appear Amy, Rouge and Big, and I think that's too much and won't happen. I really think Sonic 3 have the potential to be the best movie of the trilogy, and honestly I'm more excited with Sonic 3 than an hypotetical Mario sequel, the movie is TOO ambitious and with a lot of fans waiting the movie, but I agree with you about the expectations and I'm worried as you about the subplots this movie could have like the wedding subplot of Sonic 2 as you said. I hope the best for Sonic 3 and I hope the creative team learned about the successes and failures of the Sonic 1 and 2, and give us the movie we deserve. I'm sorry for the bible I wrote😂😂😂

100% AGREE with you! I liked the last two Sonic films. But the moments with some of the side characters. The human side characters....were cringe. Especially that wedding scene. Like, take that one scene out and it wouldn't change a thing. They need to take Sonic 3 a little more seriously. So like you said, I have low expectations. And I'm very worried that they'll get Shadow and Robotnik's story wrong. They need to focus on the FANS this time and not just the modern audience.

The creator did say that the Sonic 3's tone would be different simply because of Shadow. This was a Sonic 2 interview at a panel with Jeff Fowler and someone else. Now nothing is confirmed because he said this when Sonic 2 just came out, but it does mean he's in the right head space. Paramount just needs to allow him to cook.

I'm both expecting and hoping for a sort of last second final fight, since I want the majority of the movie to be about Shadow and his story. What I'd like to see is Sonic and Shadow facing off against a robot that will be set up to be Omega later, but that's most likely not going to happen.

Also I don’t think shipping is going to be a problem. And while the wedding scene was too long, I did think it was pretty entertaining. It was just really funny. It just went on too long as all. But I can see them learning from that feedback.

SA2: the movie wouldn't be a good idea anyway. It would be providing a story which can already be found somewhere else. I'd rather they take elements from SA2 like Maria and such but tell their own story; you don't need Rouge or Amy imo.

I think changing it to them just needing to stop the ark from falling instead of the biolizard is a great idea. Esp since they already simplified the chaos emeralds/master emerald, i think keeping shadow as the ultimate lifeform and geralds master plan is the ark kamikaze is less over the top

The only 100% confirmed leaks was the Knuckles show leak, and the Super Shadow and Eggman time traveling on the arc. They were full storyboard animations that were just confirmed with the Knuckles trailer. So they are for sure going to space.

They did say they are taking elements of sa2 and shadow 05 so maybe mostly sa2 but i actually think they could add the gun commander subplot from shadow 05 and it could happen as at the end of the post credits the commander says my god project shadow which means he knows who shadow is. And pls amy and rouge been in this movie. And big with random caneos will be nice. Also remember when they said that toms family have been working for over 50 years. I’m going to be very honest. I think that instead of directly adapting SA2. They are more so going to mix together Sonic CD and SA2, and keep it mostly SA2 themed like how they mixed Sonic movie 2 with Sonic 2 and Sonic 3 with the theming being more so around Sonic 2.

I think we already know not to expect SA2: The Movie. Or at least, people should. Like, we don't even really have a game that equates to Sonic 1 or Sonic 2 as movies. Like, the closest we could equate Sonic 2 to would be Sonic 3 and Knuckles, with Knuckles making his debut, Robotnik stealing the Master Emerald and using it to power a big robot, but even then, there were a LOT of differences.

We're acting like the movie's plot is just gonna be SA2 it's probably not... not even close yeah it'll have some plot elements of SA2 but I really do not believe they're going go to space or have Maria get shot I fully believe there will be a completely different approach to everything while still having a similar plot to SA2

Regardless of the recent news, sorry, dude, but I would completely disagree with a lot of what you’re saying. I agree with why you’re saying it, but I’ve come to a different conclusion. The movies started off, lighthearted, but as family films. Not necessarily as kid films. And what I mean by that is that it’s not super geared towards the little kids, the way, Alvin and the chipmunks are. There is still action, words like crap and hell, And the threat of death and guns. Then there’s the second movie, which somehow was able to adjust the tone slightly while still feeling like it’s in the same movie universe. I think that the tone of the third movie will be able to adjust slightly as well, so that it is a bit darker than the first two without being super edgy. They already said that this movie will take inspiration from Sonic Adventure 2 and Shadow the Hedgehog. I think fans are jumping the gun, thinking that this is going to be a direct adaptation of the game. It’s merely inspiration just like the first two movies. My bet would be that they established GUN specifically for them to take part in this movie more. Even with the commander, being a bit goofy, I can see him leading an army after Shadow and some misguided way, even with his goofy nature. It will almost be scary because it will be as if his idiocy is the threat. I can see that being a force that goes against shadow just like in his own game. Along with maybe him not remembering his past right away. And when he does remember, this may anger him and cause him to take over the operation from Robotnik.. I also think that we don’t need to see Maria die on screen. She didn’t die on screen in SA2. Lastly, before they revealed Knuckles being in the second movie, I remember saying on a podcast episode of The Hedgehog Zone that I thought they could still add Knuckles, and they wouldn’t have to worry about juggling too many characters. My reason was because instead of just being Sonic versus Robotnik, it was sonic and tails as a unit versus knuckles and Robotnik as a unit. When you keep the characters together, you can do like Sonic Heroes did, and just treat multiple characters as one thing. I think the third movie will do the same thing. Not only because it would be the full cast of that game, but also because Tails and Knuckles needs something to do. It gives someone for them to directly interact with, and grow their characters even if that part of the story is very minor. That covers a Rouge, but you’re probably wondering about Amy. Amy is the counterpart to Maria. Just like the game, she may be important to introduce for shadow to have someone to see Maria in.

I have a theory. This will be the last movie, I feel there’s no way to move the films forward after this one. On that note, ever realize how sega has been making tarot cards Amy’s entire personality? I feel like that’s gonna have a part of sonic 3 and it’s ending. No idea what it would be, but I have a feeling.

I know everyone would freak out if in the movie they made an remix of Live and Learn and I Am All of Me.

The humans are probably gonna take up 90% of the movie's runtime like always and the actual characters we came to see will be side characters.

A few questions I have one is for Sonic 2 who were the humanoid tribe members that look like Knuckles tribe but clearly aren’t since Knuckles in the very last of his tribe. And second how was shadow created before Sonic arrived on Earth he’s been there for 10 years according to the first film but shadow been is development for over 50 years??? Am I missing something? 😵

One of the things that really bothered me about the 2nd film were the gun agents. They didn’t feel formidable or like a threat at all. They held tasers. How are you gonna be called G.U.N but not carry any at all? And when they actually carry an arsenal when they confronted eggman at the mean bean coffee spot, they STILL never used em. I know it’s a family films but there are pg family films with guns that were shot. Or at least had a darker tone.

I think sonic 3 should be more darker a little gritty to match shadow. By the way Maria might just get aged up so they can kill her as safe bet

Considering one of the leaks(for the knuckles series) turned out to be true, then the third movie is likely to have more ambition than even game fans expect. Speaking of them, they seem to continuously overlook the fact that the story content for adventure 2 clocks in at barely over your average film runtime(with it being less than the second sonic movie). Add on to that several scenes existing for game play context or to justify certain characters inclusion(see knuckles). Neither of which apply to the third film.

I think that people should think that sm3 won't be a 1 to 1 recreation of sa2. As much as I'd love that, we know that it won't happen. For example, Sonic 2 is basically a retelling of the classic games, but then when you watch the movie, there is a lot different about the movie to the classics. Although I feel like they will kill off maria since she's now been confirmed + I heard somewhere that the movie is going to have a higher age rating, I doubt they will do everything to do with the plot of sa2. My hopes are still high with this movie since sa2 is my fav sonic game (tied with frontiers in my opinion)

I feel like this is where we may have to be dependent on the Knuckles series for more info since it's already established to take place in between the second and third movie. Maybe in those six episodes we may get some hints or clues to how their going to establish the third movie. I already made one theory that in the movie universe, the echidna tribe is still alive and they haven't come back to Knuckles because they were abducted by maybe the human characters or some other force and their red quills are being used to power up all these new contraptions that Knuckles has to fight in the trailer. Maybe this could lead to instead Metal Sonic or Metal Knuckles towards the end or save it for the movie. But I feel straight up that the movies are going to mainly establish new human villains that are exclusive to this continuity. I don't know how to feel about that. This Knuckles show may end up like that 1984 Supergirl movie and Sonic movie 3 will just end up like Spider-Man 3 where the characters and source material are just under utilized. Either way, I still love this new portrayal of the Sonic mythos and if it ends on a whimper, I can always hold my fingers crossed for a full on cgi movie reboot in the distant future or maybe in a potential Smash Bros movie. Who knows. 🤔

Honestly, I didn't mind the wedding scene in Sonic the Hedgehog 2. I think this B-plot was necessary, and even though I never married nor ever had a girlfriend before, I actually felt sorry for Rachel, and I'm kinda glad that that conflict has been resolved. Actually, I think they could expand Rachel and Randall's relationship in Sonic 3. Maybe G.U.N. calls him to take his squad and track down Eggman on Prison Island. Last time, something similar might've happened to Rachel. They could explore why Rachel was divorced. Maybe it could be revealed that the police officer she was once married to yet divorced said he had business to attend to when actually he was seeing someone else which caused her to divorce him. Randall realizes this and is motivated to prove that he's not like that police officer. He promises to his wife that his squad would return to prepare a welcome home party for Randall to his wife. However, things get complicated when something bad happens to him and his squad. Maybe they could've been taken out by Shadow or he could've been kidnapped to witness everything he held so dear be lost. Either way, Shadow would want that G.U.N. soldier to suffer the way he suffered. Or how about Shadow kidnapped Randall's squad, and he's forced to rescue them from their imprisonment only to realize it was a trap. Afterward, he could use the one portal ring he learned from Tom to get his troops off the island, but he would get left behind to cover them while they escape. Either way, after the climax, he would keep his promise to Rachel as they would have a welcome home party. There's a lot that could happen in this B-plot or C-plot, but that actually gets me hyped.

while I don't think Maria will get shot, something darker has to be happening for Shadow that relates to Maria dying in some way, its impossible for her not to since its the crux for Shadows backstory and his motives, unless the movie does a spin on this, which I wouldn't be surprised if this is so, Maria will die, the support this further, the rating for the movie is being bumped up, while its not confirmed and its going off of leaks, the movie is appearing to gonna be rated at a PG-13 rating, whatever the reason for this bump is unknown, and anyone's guess is just as good as mine, but with that being said we will just have to wait till we get our first trailer, to really chew on what to expect

I'm in the minority who 100% does not want Amy in Sonic 3. I feel setting her up takes from Shadow screen time. I feel like she's better paired up with Silver in a 4th movie. They were part of the same team in 06. They're both hedgehogs not from Earth looking for Sonic so kill 2 birds with one stone with that one.

I do not think Amy needs to be in this movie. Rouge probably should but I don’t think it would be a big deal if she wasn’t. There are multiple bosses but the only one that really matters is Biolizard, besides the characters fighting each other. I think we will likely see Sonic and Shadow race and battle aboard the Ark. I don’t know how much of Maria will be shown in the film, or how much needs to be. I’m hoping they keep Gerald Robotnik’s last words in the film. It would also be great seeing Eggman realize he has to work alongside his enemies just like in the game. The question is, should shadow actually die or make it appear that he died but then bring him back like they did in the games?

Ok I see where your coming from but sonic 3 is not going to be a movie about sonic adventure 2 it's not going to be every character or every mission it's gonna be in the movie sonic universe not the game universe there baseing it off of sonic adventure 2 its not a movie of adventure 2 so no they don't have to introduce Amy thy don't have to introduce Rouge or big or metal sonic .

Dude your way too pessismistic Jeff Fowler has proven he understands how important these things are to us fans and he worked on Shadow's own game he understands this charachter's backstory is heavy. Paramount also won't meddle now because 1.They've already faced massive backlash from Sonic fans and 2. This is now one of their most successful franchises and Jeff Fowler's proven he knows what he's doing with these charachters. Their are rumors going around that this movie will be pg 13 and if that does end up being true we know exactly why, but let's say it's pg just the same as the other two. They can still do Shadow's backstory justice with that and there's several ways I can think of where even if they can't show it completely, they can make it as clear as possible what happens to Maria.

They can just have g.u.n. take shadow from Maria and her grandpa, she don't have to die and it will still be sad. I can't picture them making a scene dark enough for her getting shot with an actual bullet, even if its just implied. Have you not seen the previous sonic movies? I'm calling it, she not gonna die but something else sad between her and shadow that's not so jarring for the tone of the story is gonna happen instead. Mabey he lose her through cancer or something.

Finally, someone's saying it. I don't even believe Live and Learn will be in it. The last I checked, that version of Green Hill zone in the "first" trailer hasn't officially seen the light of day since. And Emerald Hill was only used in the teaser for sonic 2. (As well as the behind the scenes I believe.) Also, it's my understanding that Carrey's return is not official. The only evidence being the laugh in the teaser. That could be Shadow, Professor Gerald, or even Agent Stone. That being said, Jeff Fowler supposedly actually worked on Shadow the Hedgehog's cutscenes. His name can be found in the credits anyway. So I'm at least positive there. Maybe we'll get a Ryan Reynolds situation where Fowler'll fight for Shadow's character. I hear rumors this movie might break the mold into pg13, but that's just a rumor.

Ok first off the ambitious part can be done remember sonic movie 1 had sonic go from Montana to san Francisco to Paris then China and then Egypt movie 2 had fucking Siberia and Hawaii and they made a whole temple that looks like labyrinth zone and then made the best looking green hill zone so going to Egypt a forest and space is easy for them to do

My predictions based on the list; Space Colony Ark: Already confirmed Multiple Giant Bosses: Getting Cut Imo Introduce Rouge: Realistically not, but I'd like it. Introduce Amy: Very likely, but I'd hate it. Build up Shadow and his Backstory: Jeff Fowler knows Shadow's character(He directed both Sonic movies and the cinematics for Shadow the Hedgehog 2005) He said Sonic 3 would NEED to have a tone shift. And he did good with the other characters. He has my full faith. Eggman Screentime: Jim carrey said he wouldn't be back unless his role was important so we shouldn't worry about. Also can't have Maria without Gerald Robotnik, and he's important for Eggman. Maria: The actor for Maria reposts memes about her dying so... it's technically not confirmation... but the movie has been listed as 12+ internationally. Most likely, she's dying off screen, which may seem like a bummer, but if they did a cut like Sonic X, and Shadow 05. I'd be fine.

I didn't like the first 2 movies. I'm expecting movie 3 to not be that accurate to SA2, and I'm expecting it to be bad. But I'm still excited. I just hope they can finally take Sonic stories seriously. I also want them to actually write Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Shadow well. The idea of Shadow's backstory may be dark, but we never actually saw Maria die in the games.
