This is one of those songs that really appreciates game footage, I think. The feeling of speeding through this colourful city and popping all those balloons to this song is such a treat
Rooftop run is indeed Sonic running on european rooftops, sliding down a big ben clock tower, roman aqueducts, venice and french inspired architectures. Great aesthetic and lots of fun
Did you know that Marty Friedman, YES, THE Marty Friedman of Megadeth fame, worked on a song for the Sonic franchise? The song is called "With Me" and it's a banger.
Funny enough, Sonic Unleashed has one of the most diverse OSTs among the modern games given the international travel theme. The Day and Night stages are a thing, and each version is a "fast" and "slow" version of the continent's cultural theme, all based off IRL locations. Rooftup Run takes place in Spagonia, which is based off of Venice and France, for example. Also something to note in Unleashed specifically is that the songs are pretty long and last awhile before they loop to indicate to the player how "slow" their run has been. If you hear a certain, later part of the song, you've been in the level too long and likely aren't getting an S rank. Last thing since this is a mad late comment: Sonic Unleashed went from being the most hated to one of the most iconic and beloved of the modern, boost-gameplay Sonic games. The night stages were beat-'em-ups and people were not about, but the day stages had the greatest sense of speed to date and were gorgeous for the era.
yes, i agree that unleashed has the best [Day stages, as sonic stages] i still dispise the night stages, they just sluggish enlengh the game... is still LOVE Eggman Land
Something great about Sonic is the huuuge variety of music genres it hits. You unfortunately just ended up listening to 3 songs that are relatively the same, which makes it end up feeling repetitive. In other words, I'm VERY looking forward to having you listen to some of the other Sonic music that aren't ''upbeat and cheerful'' for lack of a better term. (I wanna keep the other genres you can expect a bit of a surprise.)
You mentioned night, the whole gimmick of the game this is from is that at night you become a much slower more combat oriented version of sonic so the night themes are very jazzy and laid back until you begin combat, some of these are incredible, like Adabat (night)
Oh man, I used to listen to Unleashed's soundtrack religiously when I was younger... lots of good memories with the stages and their aesthetics. And yes, there are Night "Acts" too! They're super good for some bg evening chilling. Looking forward to more reactions, especially from the more "unique" games like Shadow. Gun Fortress, Lost Impact and Never Turn Back are really nice.
most sonic songs of the 3D games are rock and lots of guitars actually, and varieties around rock as a genre. someone else in the comments mentioned the 2 hour long live concert, i second that, i would love to see you watch that Jesse.
I'd love for you to react to the Shadow the Hedgehog OST. "The Chosen One" was a great song and still a favorite I play to this day. The album had some decent songs despite the hate the game got.
One of Tomoya Ohtani’s most popular tracks. Definitely one I loved as a kid when I played this game on the Wii. I prefer other tracks from Unleashed more, and I don’t think the many remixes after this really did the song as well…but it’s still a great one that encapsulates why Unleashed has one of the greatest soundtracks in any Sonic game. Also, my favourite day track is definitely Cool Edge with my favourite night track being Jungle Joyride.
Well, if anything... I'd say City Escape and Live and Learn are the real essentials from the 3D games. Those 2 tracks are pretty legendary. It's weird that they weren't the first ones to be suggested for the 3D Sonic games. But the suggestors of this channel seem a bit weird... there's tons of Trails of Cold Steel tracks, for example but hardly anything from Trails in the Sky, which generally is considered to have the better soundtrack. Lots of music from Monster Hunter World and Rise... which tend to be a bit more cinematic in approach, but none of the true classics of MH have come up yet. More Xenoblade 2 songs than Xenoblade 1 songs, despite the former being agreed on having the better soundtrack. Lots of Metal Gear Rising, but... I don't think there's a single one from MGS1-5. It's a bit weird.
I love how quickly the half-time slow-downs pass in this. It's like you're on a hyperactivity episode and you suddenly realise you got a bit tired but then your impulses take over and you can't help but speed up again never mind the exhaustion, it's just too irresistible. Suits a very fast Sonic level (as this one is) so well.
Small list of OST's i recommend to check: Shadow Hearts: From the new world - Dead Fingers Talk Octopath Traveler - Battle at the End of the Journey Trails in the Sky - Silver Will Trails of Cold Steel - Blue Destination Bravely Default 2 - A trial of the Brave Lost Judgement - Viper Tales of Arise - Flame of Hope Streets of Rage 4 - Mrs. Y
Man, I really want you to react to parts of the Sonic Forces OST now. The game may have been a disappointment, but man, that OST is a banger almost front to back. From Forces I would recommend specifically Infinite, Fading World and Fist Bump, which are tracks with vocals.
A bit of bad luck listing to these songs in a row since they are many great sonic songs to come that sound less repetitive, i hope you get around to them in time!
@@Die-Coughman Why are you sorry? This song and many others need attention, Rooftop Run Day atleast helps heal the image of Unleashed and gets it more known.
@@DJAB87 Agreed, I've been putting together a list of Sonic songs to request, and half of the Sonic R ones are on it. I'm actually thinking about putting all of them, can't go wrong with that lmao
Sonic Unleashed falls under what fans call the "Boost Era" in which Sonic levels are extremely fast-paced and sometimes finished within a couple of minutes, so the loop is shorter than most. Saying that, Unleashed itself is funny because despite being the first 3D "Boost" game, it's levels can take around 5 minutes despite how fast you're going, plus the other half of the game contains slower gamplay with combat, and you'll recognise those tracks immediately. Personally for me, my favourite "Day" theme is "Skyscraper Scamper" whilst my favourite night theme is actually the general boss track.
Some of my all time favorite sonic 🎵 🎶 🎵 🎶 Sonic 06 Flame core(the cavern) Kingdom valley Aquatic base act 1 and act 2 Sonic cd JAP/EU ost Tidal tempest (past and present) Quartz quadrant (past present and good future) Wacky Workbench (past present)
I think the soundtracks from the newer 3D games while still good... aren't quite as good as the classic songs. Most of the stage tracks from the Sonic Adventure games and Sonic Heroes are simply on another level compared to stuff like this. Sonic Mania was the first Sonic game with a superb soundtrack since Sonic Heroes and Sonic Advance 3 from 2003 & 2004 respectively. Both of those are kinda underrated in terms of soundtrack though, especially Sonic Advance 3 (no doubt because not that many people played it).
You're right. The last games have pretty repetitive music; it is good, but hardly memorable. Sonic Adventure 2, now, is something else. ENTIRELY. You'll eventually get to those, I'm sure.
I'd love to see your reactions comparing a number of the original Sonic compositions to the remixes that Tee Lopes has done. (He's an insanely gifted remixer; SEGA actually hired him due to his RU-vid remixes). *_Original / Remix_* ------------------------------------------------------------- Green Hill Zone / Green Hill Zone '12 Labyrinth Zone / Labyrinth Zone Re-Imagined Starlight Zone / Starlight Zone Re-Imagined Hydrocity Zone 2 / Hydrocity Zone 2 Remix Green Grove Zone / Green Grove Zone Re-Imagined Hill Top Zone / Hill Top Zone (Official Sonic The Hedgehog 2 HD - Alpha Release) Emerald Hill Zone / Emerald Hill Zone (Official Sonic The Hedgehog 2 HD - Alpha Release) All of those are crazy-good, and they're all worth listening to on repeat. Everything Tee Lopes has done is, but those are my favorites.
I'd love for you to react to the Shadow the Hedgehog OST. "The Chosen One" was a great song and still a favorite I play to this day. The album had some decent songs despite the hate the game got.
