Doom Morph (the squid) is actually pretty fun when you learn the ropes. The real fault is that the game doesn't really explain in detail how to use it, but once you figure it out, it's a nice addition to the overall package.
Yeo, since writing this review I have gotten to grips with it a little more. Definitely a learning curve to it as it's not clear at first. Thanks for watching!
Useful tip in the Sonic Generations side. If you don't like the drop dash you can remove it as it's part of Sonic's default skill set. Just go to the skill shop and unequip it. It costs 30 points so in my opinion it's worth taking off for something much more worthwhile!
When Generations Original came out in 2011, it was also my 20th Anniversary with Sonic at all. Back than, the game gave me many nostalgia moments. But also I had some "That´s it?" - moments. I don´t mean, the game was short. More like, there was still something missing. Now with the Shadow-Part, Generations seams to be complete. I other words: Generations 2024 is the game we should have get in 2011. But I guess the performances and techniques were not advanced enough back than and I think SEGA / Sonic Team knew it. The big critic, besides that Shadow Generations could be a little longer is, that Geralds Journal, is a paper book only. I was expecting a case sizeed hard cover book. Similar to the steel case of Sonic Frontiers, or the IDW Collection books. I know, it sounds more like an old fanbboy blah blah, than a serious critic, right?
It's definitely a much more complete package now. And yeah, I hear you on the journal. The Xbox version is a little square instruction manual/leaflet. Still good reading though! (Probably wasn't worth buying a physical copy of the game for though - in addition to digital deluxe. Welp.) Thanks for watching as always!
"Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it. Don't wait for it." That was my present yesterday. A nod to my favourite show 😁 Thank you for watching!
The only problem I have with Shadow Generations is wishing it was just a little bit longer. Like one extra zone from his own game since there technically isn't any as is (ARK could count if you stretch it - but it's clearly modeled off the SA2 ARK levels), another extra boss fight or two with Sonic and/or Infinite, have the GUN Commander as an NPC. I think wanting more is a good problem to have though.
Just 100% Shadow Generations and I want more,I know we're getting Movie DLC, but why just that? Give me a whole pack of stages from spinoffs like the Storybook games or even Riders. Heck, give me a DLC pack for the Sonic portion as I don't want everyone to just ignore it as it's also an outstanding game.
Yes Hilltop! Good to see your back mate, hope your not working too hard lol. Can't wait to play this, I picked it up on its release, but the day after I wrote my car off so, i haven't got around to it yet, but hopefully tonight is the night! Also, yeah, the animation was just insane. Definitely hit me in the feels, and felt like Sega was finally taking it seriously, as the sonic universe has always worked with dark storytelling, ever since SatAM days. I'd love to see a full fleshed out series like that, that had real time for the narrative to breathe. Great video man as always!
Hi! Firstly, thanks as always for watching and secondly... you wrote your car off?! I hope you're doing okay! Agree 100% - it can work with dark stories for sure. I always think back to the comic book 'Bone'. Such an epic fantasy story, but with a cast of cartoony... erm... well I don't recall what they were suppposed to be. No reason big cartoon animals can't be played straight with a serious story too - as Shadow Generations and that animation prove 😁 Hope you're doing well, car troubles aside. Btw, did you ever get any further with that SegaSonic Arcade1Up idea? (Speaking of which I am about to add The Simpsons to my collection. It's getting out of hand haha.) Cheers!
@HillTopTerebi No problem man! Always enjoy watching your stuff. Yeah...I was heading home on Sunday from getting some bits from Aldi, when a Taxi driver pulled out on me without looking in my direction once. Took me clean out. I'm absolutely fine, not a scratch on me but my car's a write off. Technically, it isnt beyond repairing, but as it's a 2008 Jaguar X-Type, its not economically viable for them to repair. And if I paid out my own pocket, well, Jag parts be not cheap anyway :/ Yeah I agree there too, I'm sure I've seen something somewhere that explains why using animals to show dark Human issues works. It may of been Don Bluth, talking about Secrets of Nihm and others. I mean, think of Watership Down? Plague Dogs? Okay to exactly cartoonish, but still. STC and Archie took the darker direction, and it just works. Definitely a mature audience out there for sure. Haha oh you going for the Simpsons?? Nice, that a 4 player cab? Have you seen there up and coming Claw Machine? Not sure what to make of that lol. No progress on the Golden Tee - to - SegaSonic yet, guess I'm kinda nervous about tearing up a new (ish) cab lol. Its still the plan though. That and I got a 3D printer, so I've been playing around with that, which may come in handy for the project, I've been doing more music for Sonic Overdrive, animating etc. If Arcade1up just made a Daytona USA cab in XL form factor, or Outrun or something, they could take my moolah! How many cabs is that for you now? I remember you have the Time Crisis cab, which I'm Jealous of haha ;)
After playing through Shadow Generations, Modern Sonic does not feel nearly as tightly responsive as Shadow. I think the most annoying thing still in Sonic Generations that may be due to whatever iteration of the Hedgehog Engine is the inability to effectively turn Sonic around as well as how the game deems something as targetable or not. Sonic feels like a speedy tank. I think this may be due to there being no code for Sonic to face a specific direction quickly or immediately especially in the opposite direction. Also, the drop dash is something that I think only works for the 2D games. The drop dash has screwed me over with Modern Sonic more than once. I really hope they patch in an option to disable it. Those were my only gripes with the game. I must say that the entirety of Shadow Generations is addicting. The abilities, responsiveness, story, voice acting, cutscenes, visuals, and gameplay are all so good. I feel like Shadow Generations was the focal point of development with Sonic Generations being bundled to justify its price. They knew how hated and bad the Time Eater boss fight is yet it is exactly the same as it was in 2011. Of all things, that was the one thing that I thought would be changed. I forgot how boring and frustrating it was. It feels like some sadist designed it to be as long and tedious as possible.
Well you got one thing right...the og Gens remaster is actually terrible. And not because of the script changes...tho that's a major part of it. Tons of texture and level pop in. Physics glitches that weren't in the original. Now none of this is gonna keep you from beating the game. But when none of this was in the original...well, there's a big problem
This is really the era of sonic now...after the 90s this is big chance theyr getting...the movies kickstarted this...now the games n all...they shouldnt squander of this chance at all...hire the best game developers and grab the chance to produce banger games after banger in a world where games have been infiltrated and are being ruined by stupid politics and low effort attempts...they can do it and enter the world stage!
One of my complaints is the fact that the map doesn’t show collectibles. I have 2 mechanical bolt parts to find and 6 chests and I can’t find them for the life of me. I’ve searched that hub world up and down and all around and I just can’t find the bloody things.
Oh yeah... don't get me started on those ship parts haha. I am also have two left!! Argh!!!! (Didn't start seriously looking for them until after I finished writing this review.) Thanks for watching!
Sonigens remaster is better in it improves the way it plays & fixes some bugs & makes it look better. But worse in that it makes dialogue changes & adds censorship that wasn't in the og. It's unethical & sega/st as well as any company who changes a game in a remaster should face legal consequences for it. As for shadgens the "story" was horrendous as a shadow fan & had so much missed potential. But the biggest sin is that they didn't put an 05 level in the game at all. Instead it's 2 whole ass sa2 levels & a frontiers island for a game shadow wasn't even in. I want to talk to whoever's BRIGHT idea that was. The game itself is good tho
Yeah it was a miss that they didn't include a Shadow 2005 level. An odd omission especially when considering how connected Shadow Gens is to the 2005 game. Some odd changes to OG Gens cut scenes too which I did consider mentioning, but given how bare bones the story to that game is, I gave it a pass. Still loved the package overall. Thank you for watching!
