@@MM-vs2et Lol! Wtf you mean you "don´t know what that means"..? The tall guy on the right, do you see him? That´s how alot of people feel watching this..
I don't even know how many times I've watched this. These guys share a brain, and I'm not sure which I'm more impressed with. Janek & Jojo together bring tears to my eyes.
i think what makes jojo so great is that NO ONE could ever watch or hear drum and think "i could of thought of doing that" . his fills and switches break your fucking neck.
James Crud ed is right you know. As a bassist you have to know when and where is the time to open up, I think he played it perfectly... also, the focus was on JoJo in the beginning, so he had to give the drummer space. It's all about understanding the importance of dynamics.
Holy hell this guy is good. I've seen plenty of super-technical cats before, but no one merges chops with intelligent playing like this guy does. He's like cybergenetic upgraded version of Buddy Rich :D
Regardless of his incredible hand skills, I find him one of the least musical among the well-known drummers. He had a good groove in the first piece, but I agree with other commenters that most of the rest of it was crap and went nowhere, which is the real reason the onlookers were merely standing and watching. Amazing hand skills does not mean all of his work is good music.
I can't help but feel I've just witnessed two gods merely taking a stroll. These two groove so hard while making it look like play. The way Janek dancing through the entire performance, while still lining everything up flawlessly is astounding. Jojo doesn't even look like he's trying as he lays down a steady, intricate, and mind boggling groove. Amazing... simply amazing
0:00 - 5:50: Se7en 5:59 - 13:40: Catachresis (please correct me on this one) 13:41 - 18:30: Tetrastigm That transition from the second one to Tetrastigm tho....
Best minimalist drummer ever. He uses absolutely every piece of that kit to its full potential. This is one of the best musical pieces I've ever heard. Just incredible
The video said 18 min and I was like eh I'll jus watch abit. Ended up watching the whole thing because it was so FRESH, TIGHT, ENTERTAINING and it had suspense tht got me lie... And two legendary musicians who know how to play together and even how to create a sound That doesn't just sound good but this is cause they match what is being played
When you reach this level you move in the direction of conceptual thinking and let the music take you away to that creative space and just groove. I agree he has the technical skills to do most anything he wants.
The chemistry between these two guys is so flawless. I love how they do this give-and-take thing. They totally get high off of hearing each other do cool shit, very fun to watch.
Well, Janek is not a tech junkie, but boy, he just killed that bass with those pedals! Very mature playing. Jojo, you know, is a beast. Perfect rhythm section.
side story on the right side: 10:15 Asian girl and sweater/watch guy share an eye conversation about a sound heard above. 10:21 object falls from sky. 10:21 through 10:39 sweater/watch guy can't stop thinking about that plastic thing and nabs it
Also, this is some of most inspired playing I've heard/seen from him yet. And that is one hell of a bassist too, I'm baffled how he keeps up with some of Jojo's fills without dropping out :o
Just...wow. I'm so glad I found this. Creative, beyond technical, with spirit. Incomparable. Other worldly. But best of all...MUSICAL. Thank YOU Jojo Mayer and Janek Gwizdala.
I always watch these things wondering what it would be like to just walk up with no expectations from this guy, and then he goes full beast mode and blows your mind
Jojo Mayer - looks like he was designed by Jim Hensons workshop, sounds like Christopher Walkens' dropout younger brother and is a genius, philosopher and drumming legend. What a dude 😎
6:00 that lil skit, wow, just wow. Thats sounds (both the bassist and jojo) like some computer generated club music, and they are doing it with stapraight instruments, flawless victory gentlemen
What a story this guy has......from screech from saved by the bell, to world renowned drummer. Does he still hang out w/ Mario Lopez and Tiffany Amber Theissan and the rest of the cast?
If people can get through a couple minutes intro this is probably one of your most universally loved videos on youtube, give it a sec people , to use a pun let him drop the bass
Jojo is awesome, o doubt about it, That bass player is also briliant, The 2 did pull of a great show, Nothing 2 fancy, They did something awesome with what they had
Jojo will always be one of my favourite drummers. Great mix of pocket, tone, stage presence, and crazy DnB chops. But doesn't he have shoulder problems from being amazingly lop sided? The left shoulder is a foot lower than his right! How does he play for 8 hours a day like that? It obviously works so more power to him I guess. Circus freak level...
Regardless of his incredible hand skills, I find him one of the least musical among the well-known drummers. If he does stumble into a groove for a few seconds, he finds a way to flail himself out of it on the cymbals. This is the umpteenth video of him (and the last one) I've watched hoping that he'll stumble into a groove worthy of his skills.
@@billk9583 It's NAMM, the musicians are paid to flail their(companies) gear. It's not a show of music, it's a show of equipment. I know no one thinks that, but in this context, it's necessary to think that. Even with that aside, I didn't see him fall out of a groove because he's flailing at all.
The thing about Jojo mayer is you have to see him to get the experience. Just listening to him doenst give the whole impact. His whole posture, shoulder movements, arm movements. Its like he's dancing with his drum kit.
10:39 Похоже, что парень нашёл сувенир от Джоджо Маера! 😁 10:20 А вот тут этот "сувенир" приземляется. ✈ пс: слухали и зырили этот ролик раз 20, а заметили это спустя 9 месяцев! 🕘
leading up to 12:46 he starts to blend the rimshot snare with the 'twang' of the floortom hits close to the floortom's rim. I had to re-watch it a few times to get where the accent overtones from the snare were coming from - I really doubt I could've guessed what was going on without seeing it. fucking genius
I just appreciate Jojo's playing. Always different with his phrasing and his drum fills are out of this world. Definitely one of my favorite drummers for sure.
Jojo is the only good musician in the world who plays this crap.I am sorry i will never respect him on the level of Dave Weckl when he plays this stuff.
