I just got the Beam for my bedroom and it’s perfect. I have the Playbase with sub and 2 ones for surround in living room. The design of the Beam is really impressive for a bedroom or smaller living room. Big sound from this small speaker. By the way great review.👍🏻
Love your reviews and so full of info. My room is 5x4 trying to decide if an arc is best as it’s one component or spend more on the beam with 2 ones and a sub too if needed. So hard to gauge how it will be different without trying them all 😂
I have a playbar and a sub for the living room, just added the Beam and 2 ones for rear speakers in the family room. Love how the beam interacts with Alexa.
I have an old set of small Sony surround speakers coupled to a Sony AV amp and Yamaha sub, I also have a play 5 for music in my lounge and a play one with alexa in our kitchen. so i jumped in with a beam and another play 5 all set up together for TV and using the 5’s in stereo for music. I took my new play5 and beam back to the store for a refund within two hours of setting it up and went back to my old set up and single play5. i thought the TV sound was tinny and had a slight echo, whatever it was it sounded cheap and nasty and changing from TV to music was a faff
Thanks for the video! Crutchfield recommended the Denon sound bar when I spoke with them ( Denon DHT-S21 - Powered 2.1-channel sound bar with Dolby Atmos®Have not seen many reviews on this bar. Any experience with it?
I’ve got two Play 1s, Im considering buying the beam to set up in the lounge with my play 1s as my rear speakers. I only have a small lounge, will this work without the subwoofer or do you need the sub as I don’t really want to spend £699 on a sub aswell. Great video btw, really informative. Much appreciated
Hi Arron, thanks for watching. The Beam & 2 x Play:1 set up would be fantastic and can fill a small to medium size room easily with great surround sound. The Sub is entirely optional so while it does make a huge difference, my advice would be to see how you go with just the Beam and then the Sub can be added whenever you wish :-) Let me know if I can help any further!
Question, as far as I know does de Beam not support Dolby Atmos among others, as this is going to be the standard in the upcoming years. Is the Beam 'future' proof and still worth buying.
How does this stack up to the samsung q60r which is just under 500 atm. I like allot of it's features but the lack of the sub woofer makes me concerned it wont' add that punch you might want in louder scenes etc.
Could I put one of these on each TV in the house and use them for whole house audio also? I would want to be control them from the Sonos app and have several sources and volume levels for each room.
The new Playbar now is now updated. I wish I hadn’t purchased my outdated Optical only Playbar 3 years ago. Then again, optical is pretty much snafu free.
Hello Guys, do you know how can I connect my Sonos Beam, sub and a pair of One SL to my Macbook Pro M1 to get losless audio quality? I guess AirPlay must be using some sorts of compression. I dont have a TV to run through all the connections but I still would like to enjoy the full sound experience. Nobody talks about it really. Thank you for your comments, Gary
I really like the idea of the Beam, plus two play 1s, set up you speak about in the video, but for me it's just a big shame the Beam it doesn't support Dolby Atmos. Are there any other Sonos products you'd recommend to take the Beams place which do support Atmos?
Hello, I just bought a Sonos Beam soundbar, I've connected it to my TV, everything works just fine, the only problem is that the volume level indicator appearing on the TV screen has disappeared. Is there any way I can fix this so that I can see it again? Thank you in advance for your advice.
Bill Whitley Hi Bill, thank you for your question. The Play:5 would work as part of a rear surround sound set up but for most this would be overkill. If you have large room or the rear speakers will be positioned a long away from your listening position then the Play:5 could be warranted. It is also worth mentioning that you can control the level of surround sound outputted for both music & movies from the Sonos App to suit your needs. Hope this helps & thanks for watching.
Hi Mike, it's hard to give exact measurements but here's a very rough guide. Small = between 3x3m to 5x5m, Medium between 5x5 to 8x8 and Large 8x8+ - hope this helps a little!
Smart Home Sounds Ltd. Many thanks for your reply. I have a LG OLED C9 arriving tomorrow and want to upgrade the audio. I have been looking at the Sono Beam, but was wondering if it was big enough?? Our lounge is 3.88m wide and 4.98m front to back. So I guess it would??
Hey, great video! I'm really looking at buying one of these to use with our projector. One thing has been bugging me though - If my Macbook is my media centre and I've connected that to the projector via HDMI for video, can I simultaneously connect the Macbook to my Beam via Airplay for sound only? Thanks
Kurt Gilbert hi Kurt, great question. We normally recommend users install a HDMI switch when using a projector with a Sonos tv speaker. The projector would connect to the HDMI switch output and then all your sources into the inputs. If you search HDMI switch on Amazon you will find a few options. Thanks for watching and good luck 👍🏻
I want a soundbar to listen music in my bedroom and also able to connect to my tv. I'm interested in Sonos beam. Do u think its necessary to add Subwoofer to have a great sound ?? or just the standalone beam will do?
Dolby Atmos this Dolby Atmos that, I think people should be made aware if you buy any kind of Dolby Atmos soundbar or AV/receiver to use through streaming you need to get yourself at least £1,000 TV (lg OLED 2017+ or other brand oled makers 2018 or newer) the only other option to receive Dolby Atmos would be through a Blu-ray player! and I don't think most people want to start buying discs! The industry should be better regulated so people are not miss-informed or missguided, By far the most crucial aspect in a audio soundtrack no matter what movie you are watching is the Way It Is 'mastered', regardless what decoding you're using PCM, Dolby d, Dolby d + or even Dolby Atmos!!!
@@oilerguy5494 'arc' is for 2-way traffic (audio/video) there for, highly recommended for connecting audio to video! That's why I made the comment because their is a lot of confusion out there for one to receive Dolby Atmos, if you haven't got a premium TV to go with your soundbar/reciever, while steaming content, your audio will only come through as Dolby d Plus at best! Click on the red dragon to see what I had to resort to purchasing to be able to receive Dolby Atmos decoding. Don't worry because it's hardly noticeable anyway,, lol even with my setup I'm not getting 'Lossless audio' basically what I'm trying to say is, because one is always trying to improve one's audio, One is never going to be truly satisfied anyway!
I hate the optical setup on this. It is a unique cord with optical on one end and HDMI on the other. I tend to move speakers around. Since it’s not a standard optical, I have to remove the TV from the wall to make a change. I will not buy it again for that reason. .
Yes, that's absolutely possible. You can set up the Amp to output as true surrounds so your speakers attached to the Amp will be rears to the Beam! Hope that helps.
Hi Gabriel, thanks for watching. The Beam has a feature called Autoplay so if you are streaming music on the Beam and then you switch your TV on, it will automatically switch to the TV audio without you needing to press any buttons. Hope that clarifies.
Smart Home Sounds Ltd. I wonder if what he meant was can he listen to music while watching tv? For example, watching a sports event with no sound, while listening to his music?
@@Laptopdog78 Yes, you can absolutely do that. Once you turn on the TV and then switch to music, the visuals will still be playing on the TV and the Beam will be playing your music audio. To switch back to TV, you can easily do this in the Sonos App or use a button on the TV remote to prompt Sonos back to TV audio.
"Gonne play a personal favorite to show you how wide the sound stage is" Chooses a song recorded and mixed almost 50 years ago and makes it to the bass line. You're cracking me up my guy. LOL. Nothing against Floyd. But, remastering can only do so much for dispersion. (WANT YOUR MIND BLOWN? Google the word "dispersion". What do you notice? Who will solve this riddle first?)
I had a listen to the Sonos Beam in a couple of stores. Have to say I wasn't that impressed. Give me a proper 5.1 system any day based around a recent AV Receiver if you've got the space in your main TV room /lounge.. This might be alright for a bedroom or a small room. Also , surely the original Playbar in due an update given that it lacks HDMI etc. I'm pleased with my Play 5s and still have the original Sonos Connect linked to various AV kit around the house. Can't fault any of that.
Simon Mallinson State the bloody obvious of course a 5.1 would sound better..... Everywhere says this is best in a smaller room probably why you weren’t impressed in a store. And you’re in a minority not being impressed with the performance it’s a compact set up compared to the soundbar, it’s part of the sonos eco system where the beam will excel!!
ChunkyFXDLS well I haven’t got any small rooms in my big house so very happy having a full on av receiver powering my home cinema.. It’s my personal opinion. For £400 I just expected a bit more. Nothing wrong with Sonos kit in general, I’ve had Sonos kit for years.. No need to be rude.
Have to agree, it’s horses for courses. If you want the full surround dts/atmos experience then you will probably be using 4K Blu-ray as your source and so a dedicated amp and speaker set up is the way to go. For the broadcast/streamed tv that the majority of people are using now, this is a simpler option that can still give a relatively immersive experience alongside the practical benefits of voice assistant integration and easy music streaming. Just out of interest, Sonos have said many times that none of their sound bars/bases support advanced av codecs like atmos because they don’t believe a single unit system can perform the function adequately, so they are saying that they can do it, but they won’t because it wouldn’t be up to their standard, which is an impressive philosophy to adopt. Take note Sony.
The Sonos solution is crying out for an “A/V Connect Amp”. Keep the Sonos speakers simple as they are. Create a box that connects HDMI and processes the latest cinema audio codecs. Develop the app to go with this cinema mode. Let the new box manage/process the sound between existing speakers and bingo you have a lot of very happy customers who have invested in multiple speakers over the years. They need not try to put fancy cinema processing directly in any of their speakers as they would be making them obsolete much quicker given how quickly the world of home cinema changes standards. Consumers would be free to choose if they want to pay extra for modern cinema sound or not. Everyone’s a winner! I have my fingers crossed 🤞
Great, my google home mini heard that and started playing pink Floyd through the whole house...little warning next time eh? edit: oh you are gonna do it again and again. Guess I'm not watching this to completion...
Personally I think Sonos should invest in an AV connect amp. Sonos is a great lifestyle product with good quality sound without being “HiFi”. Perfect for multi room music convenience, but if they just created an A/V connect amp that could deal with modern cinema sound, that would instantly transform a home of Sonos products into a rocking cinema without having to mess with the speakers. It’s the HDMI connections, software processing, codecs and app development they are missing in a new box of tricks. But this would be massive if they did this! Allow existing customers to hop from music to cinema in a Sonos app. It would be huge for consumers wanting one solution for music and movies.
Sure you can have a basic 5.1 setup, but I’m talking about high end Cinema audio processing with Dolby Atmos, 9.2 capabilities etc etc... If Sonos invest in such a high end processor I reckon a lot of customers would be very happy. I’ve lost count the number of times I read comments about wanting the latest cinema audio processing from their Sonos investment.
@@djt6546 Honestly, most people don't care about that. They just want a great sounding system without the fuss. What you want is a custom system. But I do see your point. Sonos could add a 'hub' that acts as a receiver with additional high level features. That would be cool.
Trey Drier - I bought it, I used it, I replaced it with a $200 Yamaha that works great. It’s a sound bar you don’t need it to tell you stupid jokes or fun facts. It’s just not worth the extra money.
@@sloebone7399 Its your opinion. Great! However if your house is all Sonos this is a great option because it integrates with the Sonos app and thus can do much more with it than just connecting to your TV, which since someone like you who can't afford a Sonos system doesn't understand. It's ok. Not a big deal.
Trey Drier - I’m very integrated with Sonos and Alexa, to the point where I found the Beam to be overkill. I didn’t need it for music and I already have an Echo on the coffee table. Another issue is that the two Play1’s become full time surround sound speakers and don’t work as normal Sonos speakers for music. I didn’t like that. I liked the Beam but I didn’t need the Beam. I used it as a 2.0 soundbar and the rest of the features were redundant. I was happy to replace it and reclaim the Play1’s for playing music. I’d recommend it if you don’t already have Sonos or Echo products.
This soundbar is erm made by Sonos and erm it's called the Sonos beam and erm I'm going to erm review it and erm give you mu thoughts on it and erm tell you what I like and don't like about it and erm it's under £500 and erm it's still erm one of the best erm soundbars out there and erm I'll tell you all about it in this erm video and hope you erm like it How many fucking times do you wanna say ERM Jesus Christ
