This is my second comment since 15 years of youtubing. But I just had to write a comment. This presentation was exactly what I was looking for and exceeded my expectations. Love the clear explanations and different cases of usage, the comparison between amp and port as well as the alternatives. No questions open from my side. A big thump up!!! Thanks!

I agree. For my use it would be nice to see a “port mini” as all I want is to utilize an appleplay / smart device integrated into my current amps and ecosystem.

Another great and helpful video. I bought a Sonos Port from you guys after watching your videos. You quickly answered my question on the live chat, I ordered it and it was delivered the next day for free. Two minutes later and I’m playing my vinyl in all the rooms in my house through my Play 1’s. I’m only using an entry level Sony turntable with built in preamp and it sounds Brilliant. Thanks.

That's what I'm wondering...there's no IR out, but curious if there is an IR blaster built into the front. I would need to be able to switch my receiver to the correct input as well. Any clue if this is possible without additional gear?

Great video, thanks. Can you advise how I would Use Sonos Port to connect with my Samsung soundbar, which has digital audio (Toslink) and HDMI inputs, but it does not have RCA inputs. I have Sonos ceiling speakers connected to Sonos Amp but want to integrate the better sound and bass from my Samsung soundbar and sub.

Hello! Can I pass the audio signal from my turntable to other AirPlay 2 enabled devices without the Sonos app? Do not have Sonos devices so far, but stream directly via iOS from the music app or Tidal. I would like to stream the sound from my record player additionally as a multiroom device throughout the house. Thanks for the help!

Would be nice for an AV equivalent to the port. To be able to plug either source or the projector/tv via earc and send sound to your sonos speakers. Really fancy a couple of symfonisk picture speakers to work as stereo sound for a discrete home cinema set up in the living room but as of yet haven't figured out an effective way to do this.

This was a really informative presentation. 👍. Having started to move over to a Sonos system (Beam2 and One SL) I was looking at the Port, but I only have a headphone output or Mono Sub output on my current Yamaha N470D. I would still like the option to use both my turntable (connected to the Yamaha) and cd player (built in). I can’t imagine the headphone is the best option, but is the only stereo one without reconfiguring the system, which I am not quite ready to do. Are there potential issues I need to be aware of apart from being careful of the volume which I guess will act like a preamp. Thanks.

6:45 The Sonos Amp does not do everything the port does…there is no line out on the Amp! I have a Technics SL-1210M5G going into a Marantz 2275 powering vintage JBL L100 Century speakers and I cannot hook up the Sonos to play through my Marantz receiver using the Amp. Also, the Marantz 2275 (rated at 75 watts per channel) sounds way better and is much louder than the Sonos Amp.

I got a touchtunes jukebox with its own amp and speakers. The owner bought one of these Sonos amps and put in ceiling speakers and I’m having trouble getting the background music to play off the jukebox. I have an override box so that the jukebox when played will take priority then convert back to the background music when song is finished. Do I need one of these? I need a signal from his Sonos system to plug into my Aux I/o for my jukebox. I want the jukebox to have control not the Sonos.

Thanks for the video guys, great production as always and explains the usage of the Port really clearly. I’ve been looking for a way to connect my turntable to my Sonos Ones and this looks like it will be the best solution as I don’t have space for a Sonos Five. The only thing you didn’t mention was that the turntable would need a built-in preamp (or separate preamp) for it to connect to the Port.

Hi..I Just installed a Sonos arc, sub, etc.. to a Samsung 82" TV..I used to have the Samsung Arc (HDMI) go to a Receiver (HDMI) where I used the receivers HDMI ports for all my connections such as Apple TV, Roku, etc... I would take that receivers' HDMI signal, and send it to a splitter with HDMI's going to other rooms in my house so I could share my various devices with those other TV's. I have since removed my receiver to go wireless with Sonos. How could I set this up my new receiver-less system with a Sonos system.. I tried different variants of trying to get this signal from the Arc to the splitter but no luck..help! Thanks!

This was very helpful. Quick question though re connecting a Turntable directly to Sonos 5 or the Port, you didn't mention a Pre-amp was needed and had a Rega P1 on the table which doesn't have one built in....does that mean a Pre-amp is actually not needed to go from Turntable to Port for example? my understanding was a Pre-amp is needed for all Sonos hardware but perhaps that changed with the Port? Many thanks

I have a complete Sonos system and then I bought a Sonos Port for my stereo to stream to the receiver. Well long story short after reading many articles and asking Sonos a time or two and getting a smoothed over comment from my salesman on all the equipment but especially the port I discovered the truth. The Port only streams CD quality music which for many is good enough. If you have a streaming service and want and pay for much higher resolutions don't get the Port it can't handle it. I bought a Blue Node and was blown away by how much the music improved. Now this isn't an ad for Blue Node others I'm sure could deliver as well but now I'm saddled with selling my Sonos Port. I wish my salesman had been north forthcoming instead of trying to "bag' the sale with me.

We’re designing a new home that will have four stories and a lot of “zones”. We will have a dedicated listening room, a photo studio and several rooms dedicated to various purposes. I like the idea of same music everywhere, when we have a full house, but when I’m shooting, I like to use music to set the mood, while my wife likes music for her yoga workout or while she’s lying by the pool. So, is this the piece of gear we need to let us use a couple of pairs of excellent speakers, a great amp, etc. but tie it into the brilliant Sonos system. I hate to be so detailed, but you guys are the best on RU-vid as far as product knowledge and installation goes.

You would need an rca to 3.5mm and connect it to the primary google home max. It can then wirelessly sync to the other channel. These would likely be out of sync with everything else as it has additional latency.

Hi there, thanks for watching. I've had a look at that speaker and it has both an RCA input and 3.5mm jack so you can use either of these ports and connect up a Sonos Port to the speaker.
