Constantinople was the capital city of the Roman/Byzantine Empire (330-1204 and 1261-1453), and also of the brief Crusader state known as the Latin Empire (1204-1261), until finally falling to the Ottoman Empire (1453-1923). It was re-inaugurated in 324 from ancient Byzantium as the new capital of the Roman Empire by Emperor Constantine the Great, after whom it was named, and dedicated on 11 May 330. The city was located in what is now the European side and the core of modern Istanbul.

@Princeps the Romans since their very founding adopted Greek culture and roman and Greek culture has remained quite similar the early byzantine empire was very roman for a couple hundred years actually until it changed to be more unique since that happens over time Greek culture in 300 bc is different to byzantine culture in 1000 they simply changed rome had it never fell would change as well and they did speak Greek but most of the area that the byzantines controlled had already spoken Greek for a while anyway

They offered tribute and trade privileges to the Rus'.[8][9][10] The Byzantine offer was discussed between Igor and his generals after they reached the banks of the Danube, eventually accepting them.[11] The Rus'-Byzantine Treaty of 945 was ratified as a result.[12] This established friendly relations between the two sides.[13]

@granatapacifica
@granatapacifica 2 года назад
@@irzdusman1203 atleast I know how to speak English correctly lol. Also: 1) Seljuk Empire has nothing to do with the ottomans, in fact, the ottomans contributed, along with other tribes from Central Asia and the sultanate of rum, to the dissolution of the seljuk Empire. 2) The reason for that is because when the Byzantine Empire tried to reunify the roman empire, many of the technologies were missing (510 start of Byzantine reconquista vs c.1400 start of ottoman conquering period), plus, the Byzantines were weakened by the wars with the sassanids from c.400 - 628 (wars under the roman empire date back to 54 B.C.), The Arabs (629 - 1050s), the huns, the mongols, and not to mention the various barbarian people they had to fight against. 3) While muslims may have been more merciful in the past, just look at the muslims now, which if they managed to conquer more of continental europe they could've spread these ideals to the rest of europe, and probably making it a Middle East V2 4) they're not my ancestors because I'm Italian and I'm defending an empire which had little to nothing to do with Italy (talking about eastern half, not western), and the reason why byzantines lost multiple times against the seljuks, is because they were already declining at the time, and the seljuks like the mongols pretty much devastated and plundered every city they encountered. Also the ottoman empire never beated Spain, italian kingdoms (except Venice and Genoa but only due to their detached colonies), They have never also beaten the Holy Roman empire (they defeated Hungary, which isn't in HRE) and also the ottoman empire started its decline after POLAND came to beat their a$$ in Vienna, and after that, the ottoman empire started declining, the europeans now dominated the world with their colonies, became stronger and more industrialized while the ottomans barely touched any industry or railway systems except in important cities like Instanbul, Edirne and Ankara, that's why every european power, even Italy which was weak af managed to beat the ottomans, but not all togheter, but in different wars. Also the ottomans Lost to serbian, Romanian, Bulgarian and Greek rebels which had an army 5 times smaller than the ottoman one.

14/04/1205 The Battle of Adrianople occurred around Adrianople on April 14, 1205 between Bulgarians, Vlachs and Cumans under Tsar Kaloyan of Bulgaria, and Crusaders under Baldwin I, who only months before had been crowned Emperor of Constantinople, allied with Venetians under Doge Enrico Dandolo. It was won by the Bulgarians, after a successful ambush. Tsar Kaloyan which means Kalo(beautiful) and Ioan(Ivan) - Tsar Kaloyan(Tsar Beautiful Ivan) manages to defeat the then invincible war machine of the Europe Knights of the Fourth Crusade. Baldwin is locked in the city Veliko Tarnovo his cell is called Baldwin tower. Those crusaders were the evolution of the armor and combat fighting skills with swords and the strongest unit on the world, but only in the movies ;) About the music its beautiful and great! About their actions - scumbags combined from human greed, ego and stupidity, those are your shiny great crusaders.

White Lama it isn’t propaganda? It’s just a fact that by the time of 1453 the Byzantine Empire and its successor states no longer had any actually relevance in politics, and this was the direct result of the 1204 crusade. Even when the Nicaeans retook Constantinople in 1261, the empire had been divided into three separate states all claiming to be the true successor. Would the Turks have still conquered Constantinople without the Fourth Crusade permanently crippling the empire? Maybe, probably even. But my point here is that we will never know because a bunch of dumb fuck westerners were allowed to loot the most important city in the world by a dumb fuck pretender to the throne. It ruined any chance they might have had of holding off the Turks. Had the Fourth Crusade not happened, the Romans could have made a huge rebound. More astonishing feats had been accomplished by them in the past. Stating that this is “propaganda” is frankly ridiculous. I’m not some kind of Turkish fanboy, I’m not Turkish nor do I have Turkish ancestry. My statement comes from my takeaway of the facts that by the 14th and 15th centuries, the Roman Empire as a political entity was divided and no longer relevant, and it was only a matter of time before they were conquered by someone. It could have been the Venetians or the Muscovites or the Hungarians but it happened to be the Turks.
@Dr_Evil_Mc-Bad
@Dr_Evil_Mc-Bad 4 года назад
well, they had a chance. they were slowly but gradually clawing they're way back after mazinkurt, 4th crusades crippled them, but they started clawing their way back again until their holdings were halved by the serbs, then after that the biggest game in town was the ottomans. we all know what happened after that
@DarthNicky
@DarthNicky 4 года назад
Legatus Sedricillius Manzikert was a crippling blow but not too bad. Alexios Komnenos was able to restore most of the territory lost after that defeat. But there was really no similar restoration after the Fourth Crusade. The empire was divided into three states (Nicaea, Trebizond, and Epirus) that refused to cooperate with each other and remained divided even after Nicaea retook Constantinople from the Latins (a feat they really only managed due to military assistance from the Bulgarians and the Mongols providing a distraction to their eastern enemies). The west continued to take little pieces out of what remained of the Empire and it was able to gain very little of it back.

Great music, very befitting! Now for a clarification: There was never a Byzantine Empire. Its the continuation of the Roman Empire and always called itself Roman, it was not a successor state (there were other successor states, and the states they had influence on throughout the Empire's long life), or at least until 1204. From 27 BC to 1204 AD there was a Roman Empire in the world. A second iteration, essentially a Greek kingdom, existed under the Palaeologus dynasty from 1261-1453. Though they continued to style themselves as the Roman Empire, the Palaeogoan successor state inherited ruins from Turkish and Crusader assaults, and at the end lifted the stigma associated with the societal adjective Hellene or Greek before vanishing into the tides of time, followed by their own successor state in the Peloponnese. It is this Palaeologan state where the rename of Byzantium is more applicable, funnily enough even their dynasty name supports this (keeper of old knowledge/ways). The removal of the stigma about the Greek-speaking Romans calling themselves Greek would allow for a new Greek-focused national spirit to arise after the failed Roman Empire resurgent rebellions in Osmanli Turkey throughout the Early Modern Period, allowing the Hellenes to move on in some way.
@samuellennon1984

@@valhall89 they may have lost Rome but they were still Roman. Their nation was historically called Romania or Rhomania, literally Land of the Romans. As they were an Empire they were called the Empire of the Romans. Even before the lost of the West the Roman capital was relocated several times like in Milan, Nicomedia, Ravenna and Constantinople. The latter became entrenched as a new permanent capital to the point that when Constants II even expressed the idea of moving the capital to Syracuse in Sicily he was assassinated for it. No one had such attachment to Rome when the capitals were moved away from there, for the Roman Empire and its people had outgrown its womb and birthplace and spread across the areas via colonization.

@@RC15O5 You make some fair points, im not trolling. But to suggest that 11th century Byzantium/eastern roman is somehow the same state that Augustus ruled is a truth with heavy modifications. And i dont understand why the concept of Byzantium is seen as a negative. The byzantine Empire had almost a 1000 years of history, with many achievements. You dont have to give the Byzantines a petty legacy borrowed from a different people and land, their legecy is greek and orthodox Christianity, not latin and pagan. I have repect for the byzantines and the romans, but to say they where the same is to simplefy the situation. And the suggestion that they considered them self romans is fine, but so did the ottomans and charlemagnes Franks, and we both know that was a load of BS:D:D:DD:D
@RC15O5
@RC15O5 4 года назад
@@valhall89 I think the term Byzantium is more appropriate for the Palaiologan state that lasted from 1261 to 1453. The Roman Empire lasted as a continuous state that adapted slowlyto the changing times from 27 BC to 1204 AD when the Partiti de Romanii was signed and carved between Venice and the fledgling crusader states occupation, the so-called Latin Empire. The Byzantine state that was established in 1261 reimplemented long-held Roman customs and did away with West European laws but inherited ruins from the 1204 Sack of Constantinople and so could never field as much power as the Empire that once existed. And they historically called themselves Romans, their own records attest to this like in the Alexiad. The stigma if saying Greek to refer to Roman citizens began to go away (Greek for a long time referred to the heathen city states and kingdoms of antiquity from within Rhomania) as the Byzantines were abandoning their caesaropapist ways and trying to better relations with the Papacy to help defend against another crusade and encroaching Ottoman conquest. The others were claims based on the idea of Translatio Imperii. At least the Ottomans have some claim to it, being Islamic Turkified Anatolian-Greeks and the Osmanli sultans married into the Palaiologan dynasty. After converting to a spliced religion based on Early Christianity and the Roman Cult, the Roman Empire slowly phased out gladiators and slavery but retained absolute rule of their heathen days through apocalyptic propaganda, though the rich would use political influence to retain house slaves, and would outlaw most forms of brutality (though aristocracy came to have an unpopular likening towards facial mutilation to depose throne claimants as only people with faces as flawless as God could serve as his throne regent on Earth, as well as rebel leaders). Due to the sheer brutality found in fundamentalist Islam, the Ottomans (as well as their usage of Qasari i Rum, literally Caesar of Roma) could be seen as the Roman Empire succumbing to a splinter state adopting a violent imperial cult (harking back to the waves of cults to become fashionable prior to the rise if Imperial Christianity,like Mithras and Sol Invictus) and returning the Roman Empire to form with their capture of Constantinople in 1453, reimplementing slavery on a mass scale, racial and religious segregation (a la Pact of Umar), brutal authority (Turkified Sharia Law) and pursuing unrelenting conquest of their neighbors.

@@emresevim3786 What the fuck is wrong with you pitiful heretic? Is this how the sons of Tengri should act? Don't call yourself Turkish while you're being such an apologetic wimp. I'm not saying this because you're Christian, I'm saying this because you're such an eye-sore that even the Greeks here are disturbed by your submissive attitude.

Reisya, are who's obsessed with Byzantium and the history of Christendom/Christianity in general, who would like to help me create an animation project about the history of Christendom/Christianity (Battle of Tours, Battle of Covadonga, Battle of Nineveh)? Movies/animes about Heraclius, Charlemagne, and many other heroes of Christendom... My discord is Proletariado#4420 I would love to meet you =)

Since I love ERE stuff, this song inspired me to make a video about Arak, Son of Thunder over on my channel. Hopefully by the end of January. It was a book about a Native American who manages to travel to the ERE.
