I have that lense on my a6700 and I love it for its bright aperture, its sharpness and its form factor. If Sony ever decides to put out a similar APS-C G lense at this size at 24mm f1.4, I'll buy it instantly.
I was gonna go for this one until I saw the price. For me personally as a beginner, simga 16mm F1.4 is half the price and big winner. I dont do walking vlog. anyway, great video Mark. I learnt a lot from your channel. keep up the good work!
*JUST bought this used from B&H for $631 and I'm SOO glad I jumped on this as this will REPLACE my Sigma16mm and it has a GREAT feel and I love the small compactness of it.*
Just found your channel today. I am so impressed with how much helpful info you pack into each video, while making me laugh at the same time. So fun. Keep going! I hope we all get to see more and more videos!
Wow…you must have an assembly line built to be able turn out so many videos in such a short time! All nicely done! Of all the new Sony lenses I think this one the best, especially if lightweight is going to be important. Between this and the Sigma 16 nice that there are choices (plus the Viltrox albeit at 13).
I am not a Vlogger or into video. More stills for travel and family. But I have learned a lot from you Mark. there are a lot of take aways from your reviews. I want to renew my equipment. I am considering the a7cii or a6700. I am leaning towards the apsc. as I already have the 35mm f1.8, I would only add this prime to it. I like to travel light. 22.5mm seems to be a very useful focal length.
Yes this lens is became # 1 for me for everyday and travel use.. You talking all right man . Second one is Sigma 56 mm. F 1,4 And in bag tele 70 - 350 Sony. All three great works for me. In percentage, 15 mm, 85%; 56 mm, 12% and the rest tele (tele is very special for different targets).
I have the 16 vs 15 coming up - but I’ll see if I can squeeze in the Viltrox. I compared him against the Samyang 12 and Sony 13 in an upcoming vid. that viltrox sits right in the middle of everything 😂
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisismaybe can add those apsc lens like sanyang 12f2 in a7m4 in apsc mode to compare with ff lens like sanyang 18mm in FF mode? I think it'll be interesting lol it theoretically would have some pov, but really curious about the distortion comparison
Love your delivery style mate. Looks like the EV10 might be my first decent camera. I make camping videos over here in Australia and so far use a Mavic Air 2S and a gopro7 black with my iPhone also. What I miss is good night shots which obviously over here is a great part of camping.
Great summary. I find the 1.4G 15mm a bit dark, and have to bump up the EV a few clicks even when wide open. I have no idea why, never had this problem with other primes. Have you experienced this with this lens?!
I am using the same lens (Sony 15mm f1.4 G) with the same camera (ZV-e10) you reviewed. Mainly blogging, product review, and portrait video shooting. Everything is 100% video shooting! How many mm of ND filter did you buy? I searched and found that many people chose the 82mm. What is the reason? I think I need something called an 'up ring'. What company product should I buy and what size should I buy? And which one would be better, 2-5stop or 6-9stop?
The 15mm looks ok on your ZV-E10 out vlogging... I guess it comes down to how far outstretched you had to hold it... was a bit hard to judge... was it more than arm's length?
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Ok got it... hmmm... decisions decisions... I'm thinking 10-20mm f4 plus 15mm f1.4 for most flexibility. I'm probably doing walk arounds outdoors under reasonable light conditions so the PZ zoom might be adequate..?
Those are just the elements moving around - perfectly normal. The lens shifts the elements around while focusing - so none of them are locked in place. But don't shake your lens too hard - nothing good ever came from that. lol
Looking to get the sony 15mm just because of how my teleprompter mounts to the camera. No extending barrel, therefore less setup time, and lower chances of breaking the lens motor on my kit lens.
Your reviews are amazing. I am really looking forward to any information on Viltrox 13, since you are probably the only one who has it on his hands now. There is not much information about it. (your review of it has already been reviewed 100 times). Plus its price is still much more budget-friendly)
awesome video! sad that it doesn't has OSS.. it would be very handy if sony had the catalyst browse tech embedded on camera...well, but probably not enough processing power for this.. looking forward for the comparison with sigma! cheers (with apple juice, of course!) :)
Thank you.Very good video.Stick to my sigma to.I just buy the (new) Sony 35 mm f1.8 and sold the older 35mm f1.8 with oss.The (new) 35mm it's a very good lens Can't wait your video between the sigma 16mm and the Sony 15mm
The Sigma 16mm has beenTHE go to lens for APS-C, which means so many folks already have it. That’s a tricky spot for Sony to target. Glad they’re offering such a nice lens though. Great color btw!
do you use step up ring and ND to avoid the lens capturing the dark outsides (not sure what its called)? is it not recommended to just use a 55mm ND with this lens?
you should use the 55mm ND if possible. It's better to have a thin ND filter right on the lens to avoid vignetting (dark corners). Any step up ring increases the change of vignetting.
I need your opinion please. I don't vlog but am starting to do travel videos. Do you think this focal length (22.5mm factoring in the crop) is ok for travel/ documentary type videos? Thanks. I'm a new subscriber.
My ZV-E10 camera just arrived. Can you help me with three questions: 1) what memory card should I get (speed and size) for shooting RU-vid videos) 2) Should I buy extra batteries and if so should they be official Sony batteries 3) Do you have, or can you point me to, a video for learning the proper settings for using the camera for studio recording of RU-vid videos. Thanks
get the Sony tough SD cards - they are more expensive, but they don’t break and just last week I almost broke off a sandisk card in my zv-e10. So now I only use tough cards. amzn.to/3xQfLiX yes, buy an extra battery at least, and once again I would do Sony. I use third batteries myself, and sometimes they work, and sometimes they don’t. So save the frustration and buy one extra Sony battery. here is my video on settings ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5v-uv3l1FaU.html 👍
Thank you for your reviews. Great job! How do you think the 3 new lenses would be the Sony A6500? I ordered the zv e10 but plan to return it. The more research I’m doing I think I’d rather hold off until the next one comes out. Also if you had to pick two out of the 3 new lenses which 2? Want to use to vlog. The 6500 has been sidelined for a bit as I’ve been using the RX100 VII. But like the options with multiple lenses. Have been filming for years but new to vlogs.
I personally love the ZV-E10. Since it was just release last yea, I doubt there will be an update for a while. Maybe a new flagship to replace the a6600 might be due though. these lenses will work great with the a6500. I like the 11 and the 15 if I were to pick 2
Also agree on the need for an updated 6000 series. I think that is where my head is thinking in the holding out as well. Have a feeling something may be coming there sooner rather than later. And I always seem to buy a camera and have a newer, better version come out within a month or two. Lol
Hello love your videos I have the Sony 15mm and the 11mm can you tell me which ND filter you’re using I’m having a hard time finding one. I purchased the K&F that you recommended but saw in some reviews that there is vignetting
I use this kandf filter - amzn.to/3VzKaNu if you get the 55mm finer size thread there shouldn't be any vignetting. There may be some if you use step up rings. Have you seen any yourself?
No I haven’t received it yet to test it I saw that you recommended this one and I purchased it today, but when I was reading some of the reviews on Amazon some people complained about vignetting. Also the thread size is the same for the 11mm have you tried it on that lens without any issues?
Christopher Frost liked it - so it might be a good competitor. I’ll see what I can do. chances are I’d go for the Sigma if I could get it as $350 because of that 1.4 though.
Can I get this lense and put it on a tripod for cleaning videos vlogging I have the camera just want to perfect lense, I brought the 50mm lenses and had to take it right back it was so zoomed in lol,, I just want a normal lense with a low aperture I’m about to zoom in and out and everything is perfect lol
for video - you can us the 15 in APS-C mode. It will be a similar field of view with the 24GM - but the GM will have a blurrier background. Image quality will be similar. In photos though, the 15 will be less megapixels
Instant fan. Lemme go get you a thumbs up right now… ok, back. So I tried to find an answer for this question but I couldn’t: With the in-camera stabe of the ZVE10, what focal length is that then? I tried to calculate it but I suck at math…
So the 15 is the full equivalent of 22.5. With the 1.44 crop, it’s somewhere about a 30mm after stabilization. So pretty tight - doable, but tight. That’s why a lot of people opt for the 11mm for vlogging.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Thank you! So for my teeny tiny studio I could do 15mm but I couldn’t use it stabi-cropped like you do. I am currently filming on my Fuji X100V which is at 23mm - the max I can do. Beautiful image but overheats like a mofo. So now it’s your fault I’m buying a Sony ZV- E10 to film. That, and the divorce.
I have the 12mm Samyang ... I think when there is more availability on the the 13 Viltrox, I think I'll go for the Viltrox. I've had such great results from my 23mm Viltrox. that I really want to try it. Probably will keep the Samyang .too, in case I need two cams with wide angle and wide aperature. The Sony is probably a good lens, but I feel I can accomplish the same results without the Sony lens. Good show as always ... why not do a beer review ... I just had a great IPA here in Saigon. Cheers.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis I do understand that for sure I'm not in a place that offers much in the way of craft beer. Certainly not enough for a channel ...
they are very different. the 18-50 is great for versatile work with the zoom range and for photos. the 15 is great for lowlight and it’s wide enough to be used for most video work. But they are both outstanding lenses - you just need to know your purpose
it it does work on it yes - you have the option. but whether the compensation is on or off the frame is the same because the lens itself has no discernible breathing
I did a whole video on that and it’s excellent. I actually own it. it’s a focal length hat sits in between the 15 and 11 so it’s inod of hard to directly compare it to either. but I do have a review coming up with the Sony 11, the Samyang 12 and the Viltrox 13. I’ll see if I can stick it in as well with the 16 comparison.
I missed this comment!! I usually use a Hollyland Lark 150 or Deity Wireless Pocket. This vide was the Hollyland. but the key is the $6 lav windmuff from Amazon. Get rid of ALL the wind noise!!
This lens came out in just 2 months after i bought sigma 16mm.. I really prefer this one to the sigma due to weight, size, and that “clicky” feature. But that price difference made me grateful i bought the sigma before this came out. Otherwise I’m gonna look for another reason to buy this lens. 🤭
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis yes, i used it mainly for photo then i noticed the purple fringing in the picture. Thankfully based on your testing, the sony did it also. That also justifying my purchase..😄

Didn't convince me Mark to pay that extra load of $$$$ coz your Sigma 16mm love in lens reviews are a great selling point unless Sigma payed you and now Sony have realised your great selling power that they now too will pay you to advertise.. Not cynical or sceptical love your videos
haha - no one pays me for anything - it’d be nice if they did. The fact is - the sigma is optically as good as the Sony 15 but way cheaper. However, the Sony is much smaller and has buttons and an aperture ring and balances better on a camera. So it’s up to you if the extra cost is worth it!!
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis I get your point Mark.. It's all about needs.. I shot a wedding at the weekend using the kit lens and a Crane m3.. it looks hood for your average client. However if I was getting paid more I would definitely upgrade to the Sony lens.. maybe next year.. Keep up the great work and have another beer 🍻
“You guys into cricket?” R🤣TFLMA🤣Another superb review, and now thoroughly 🧐 looking forward to the head to head Sigma 16 vs Sony 15 (what’s the emoji for rubbing hands?) (Your own hands)
It's that 1.4 with all its blurriness. I'm doing a comparison of the sigma 16 and the viltrox 13 against this lens and they look pretty much identical. That 1.4 makes everything look great,
OSS will become obsolete for video. Sony is investing in new AI-assisted stabilization that crops videos even more that Active Stabilization. Sony might be pushing for more wide open lens for this feature
I JUST broke a SanDisk card myself!! I was so lucky not to get it stuck in the camera. Only Sony Tough Cards for me from now on. I'm actually going to do a video on it because it's worth the extra money to protect your camera.
