Awesome review! I'm going to get this for my a7iv and get rid of my 20mm G lens, I use it for vlogging and the f4 doesn't bother me (over the f1.8) but being smaller and having the 16-35 range sounds amazing!!! Plus as a videographer, I love PZ :)
@@MollyFitzBrown Clear image zoom will in addition give you the "smoothly zooming in" effect, and image quality should be better than apsc mode if you zoom in less than 1.5x
Hey!! Magic! I need a deep review for those who need this only for video in 4k60 in crop mode, compare whit the tamron 17-28 and 16-35 f2.8. Because I understand this lenses it’s expensive($1700). It’s look really nice and super convenience for weddings videographer. Great review bro!!!
Hi there, great review and comparison man, keep up the good work. At the 8:20 mark of the video you show a side by side comparison between the PZ and Zeiss lens and the FOV seems to be slightly wider on the PZ lens (even after software corrections). I also noticed this in another comparison video and as a real estate photographer/videographer the wider FOV at 16mm is always welcomed. Did you notice this wider FOV in your testing? Thanks in advance!
Thanks for this review!! I’m starting to get into more video and this lens looks awesome. Maybe some day after saving up, just upgraded from the a7ii to the a7iv so my wallet needs a break!! Thanks for all the reviews!
Hey! I personally don't use it. I wouldn't call it must have. If you like zooms, 16-35 can be very beneficial for wedding work. I personally prefer 24+35 or 20+35 primes.
The new lens is definitely the better optic (with corrections on), buuuuuut there’s just something about the older Zeiss glass that is beautiful.. the colors, all metal build, and smooth zoom & focus rings.
Great review, as always. I just got this lens and I will test drive it this week on my FX3. One remark about something that really pisses me off with Sony - and sorry for my French! As a FX3 and A1 owner I am really disapointed that I still dont have access to the Focus breathing compensation that was introduced with the A74. It is one thing that I really miss as an ex Panasonic shooter: constant firmware updates that add value to your gear. Especially with regards to top models of the lineup. I hope Sony sees this remark. The market has become so competitive that Sony cannot allow such an ignorant attitude towards their customers anymore!
I might have to sell my Tamron 17-28mm for this lens. 16-35mm is more useful at both ends and you get focus breathing compensation on a lens with already great focus breathing. That is almost as good as a cinema lens.
The lens is designed for software based lens correction, either in camera which it does for processed image and video (JPEG, XAVC S, etc.) and clearly beneficial based on all the lens tests and results. This also allows Sony to manufacture smaller, lighter, more features and much higher resolving power (sharp and contrast). Most photo editing and NLE software will have the RAW lens profile and be able to correct in edit. I'm all for this method as we ultimately get better lenses.
@@MagicWeddingPhotographer Lightroom only pretends that the resolution remains the same. In reality, the image is captured further than 16mm and then cropped. This leaves only 24mp. Watch this video at 13:27min. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7hCtEGIBqR8.html
Hej Maciek! Czy może testowałeś to szkło w realiach weselnych, mam na myśli relatywnie ciemne przestrzenie? Czy uważasz ze jakość przy f4 jest wystarczająca?
Hej Maciek.
I can’t tell if you are honest or not. It seems everything Sony is perfect with you. Maybe this is the way it has to be when Sony pays / rewards and sends you gears.
Is there anything specific you found dishonest about what I said about the lens? For the size and weight alone this is a great choice for anyone shopping for 16-35/4, and adding all the upgrades, linear motors for af, zoom, minimal focus breathing, sharpness makes it one of the best in class. fiy, they don't pay me for these videos nor let me keep the gear lol, that'd be something. I'm a Sony Ambassador and a fanboy tho - hugely impressed with the tech they've been putting in photography gear and luckily they make really good lenses.
Another very nice lens from Sony. It's not for me, I'll keep my 16-35GM but I can see it being popular with the video people. The wait for a 24-70 f2.8GM MKII continues :(
Hi Nick, why exactly not for you? I'm curious as I just ordered a PZ but already own the excellent GM wide zoom. GM is a lovely lens and better than the Zeiss/Sony 16-35 f,4 and Tamron 17-28 f2.8 both of which I owned, compared to GM (good but less so than GM) so sold both and kept GM. I'm seriously considering selling my GM zoom as I also have GM primes (v good and lighter than GM zoom) but also think I will lose less selling now, than after any mkii successor to GM 16-35 is announced.
@@rickymcc8624 I shoot weddings and events so I want all my lenses to be f2.8 or wider. My wider prime is 35mm so I need my wide zoom to be f2.8. If I carried a wide prime like the 20mm f1.8 then maybe a f4 zoom would be an option. I carry five lenses at a wedding which is enough for me
