Thank you Steve! You explained these buttons very well. I don't have a Sony but I do have a Tamron 70-200mm lens for my Nikon and it has buttons for vibration, range and the modes. It's nice to get a good explanation of these buttons. Thank you Monique and Steve!!!

Just bought this amazing lens, thanks for explaining all these buttons! One thing I found to set for custom button is apsc/crop vs full frame switch. Useful to get a bit more virtual reach.

I got a 200-600 and find the focus-range limiter to be of most use. As for which steady-shot mode to use and when, I'm still experimenting. NIce topic for a video!

I’m most interested in photographing birds and I only really use the 200-600 with the A7iii. The problem I find is that birds are tricky little creatures - one minute they are sitting and posing and then they are off, flying at a rate of knots. Consequently, changing from a slower shutter speed and frame rate + using expanded spot for stationary birds to want use a fast shutter speed and frame rate and wide focus with tracking for BiF. What I’m currently trying is to set my “Recall Custom Hold button 1” to the button on my lens with my BIF settings and the use the normal manual mode to select shutter speed and aperture + single shot or low frame rate for birds that are sitting still. Once they take off or I spot a flying bird then use my left hand thumb which is supporting the lens to press the lens button and bring up the BIF settings. It seems to work ok but I’ll have to practice a bit more. Personally, I can’t see the point of setting the lens buttons to AF/MF when there is already a dedicated button for this function only a couple centimetres away but each to their own.

Hi from Australia, on the lens where there is 3 buttons, can those buttons be dismantled so you if you touch the buttons by mistake nothing happens?
@CattailChronicles
@CattailChronicles 2 года назад
Yes! When setting the function go to the very last menu option "not set". 😊

Hi I came across your videos because I just bought a Sony200-600. I have a Sony A6000, I went out today to capture some little cardinals, northern pintails, GBH, downy woodpecker etc, and had a LOT of trouble with focus, it would go way out and way in and never focus. I'm on auto focus, flexible spot and also use area. Do you think this lens and camera don't work together? I'm a little lost, but I'm watching your videos and hoping to find an answer in there. I don't have any photography friends and really am clueless but determined to figure this out. Are you able to help me at all?

Welcome! First off do some tests to be sure there's no defects. Does it focus on larger subjects? Closer subjects? Inanimate object? If so then I would go through every camera and lens setting. On the lens you can switch from infinity to closer. In camera I would test all the focus types and areas. Sometimes single spot small is best and sometimes medium tracking or flexible is better. I'm not familiar with the 6000 camera but it might just take some experimenting to find the combos that work best for what you photograph. Let us know what you discover!

If you panned in Mode 1, what would happen? Would it be better to use Mode 2 if I know I'll shoot an alien standing still AND the starship flying away?
@CattailChronicles

I would choose the mass choas of button 3 since it doesn't go to 11. Hahaha!🙀

So awful that RU-vid can monetize videos even though the creator doesn't see a dollar until they meet a threshold. Thanks for the information.
