Hey guys! This is also my first camera and it just came in today! Very excited to master this damn thing. How has the experience been for you guys so far being that you are all also beginners?? Was it hard to get the hang of? Do you think you should’ve started off with a “more simple” and less advanced camera? (Asking everyone above^^)

This is unbelievably helpful, and I'm incredibly grateful for your taking the time to do this. For 30 years I've been shooting with film or with a camcorder form-factor so when I picked up this little Sony sweetheart I was overwhelmed by the myriad of new options. This is exactly what I needed. You rock.

@@Jason_Hermann Your video is over an hour long. Most others intros are 20-25 minutes. That's because you say an extra sentence or two about each item. You give some context and meaning rather than merely identifying what's what. That's why your's are so useful. Question for you: S-Log is a new thing for me. It looks like you're also a FCP user. Do you have anything in your videos about how to treat S-Log footage in Final Cut? Thanks so much.
@Jason_Hermann
@Jason_Hermann 10 месяцев назад
@@MitchellRoseFilms Hey there, and I do have a video talking about S-Log2 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jnn82Fhc4Do.html , but not Slog 3 which is what this camera is capable of and what I would recommend using... However, my buddy Josh made a really good tutorial video on S-Log3 which I recommend checking out here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Z4Ic19eP36Y.html

Hi again. I got this camera for a new project I'm working on which has very kinetic camera operating. I had read that the stabilization was first rate. I have to say I'm very disappointed in the stabilization. I just got an iPhone 15 Pro and the stabilization is far superior. Even just walking in a circle around the subject, the a6700 looks like it doesn't even have stabilization turned on. And Active is to overreactive - for this piece, when I move the camera quickly it overcompensates. Very disappointed and I'm probably going to shoot this film on the iPhone.
@Jason_Hermann
@Jason_Hermann 9 месяцев назад
The stabilization is relative to the size of the sensor, so yes the iPhone has way better "effective" stabilization. You need a gimbal for a real camera like this to get butter smooth footage. @@MitchellRoseFilms I have this one: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-X0ELPTehTxk.html

Bought this camera with a nice starker kit yesterday. As someone new to photo (and my interest: videography) all the options are quite overwhelming. Thank you for taking the time to record this. You explain it all really well, in a nice pace and easy to follow (with some retries ;)). Already feel comfortable handling the different options. Looking forward to advancing to shooting in LOG so I can nicely combine the Sony footage with my drone's footage. You have yourself a new follower!

This camera is the A7R5 of the aps-c lineup of cameras. Been setting up the camera to shoot bees in action on my shrub. Took a while, made a number of errors, more like not paying attention to my settings. Now this beast locks on bees and tracks them as they dart around. Getting lots of great sharp hits. Surprisingly the lens I am using for this task is the 90mm 2.8 macro lens. Not only is it fast in focusing, but it is also razor sharp. It makes the a6700 sensor shine even more. I think as people get used to the tiny body, they will appreciate not having to lug a heavy FF body around. It is so small that people will not notice it, allowing you to take pictures with no one noticing.

Wow Jason, your videos are Excellent! Such detail and so well explained. Great pace and demonstrations. I first saw your video on the Sony RX10 and now switching to a6700 + Sigma 18-50 f2.8 & Sony 70-350G. Your guidance helps a lot. Also your a6700 Review was awesome. Just wonder does a6700 IBIS work with Sigma 18-50 (with no Stabilisation). Thank You.

Awesome, thank you for the kind words and yes the IBIS definitely works with the Sigma and Active stabilization should also work if you need a little extra digital stabilization as well.

Nice video thanks Jason, first video of yours I've seen, very informative. I love taking B & W photo's as well as colour, is there a feature to view what the image will look like in B & W even though your taking a normal photo?
@Jason_Hermann
@Jason_Hermann 9 месяцев назад
Thanks Scott for the kind words :) I don't know of a way to do that... You can use the creative look and chose BW, but it will take the photo in bw also. Good to get an idea though if you want to see what it looks like..

Hello, I want to use focus stacking in studio photography. However, I will need 1.5 seconds for the flashes to charge. Is there a setting to extend the time between photo shoots? Thank you

Thanks for this video! Very helpful. Can you take photos without a lens? It's showing a grey screen without it. Working well with the lens attached though.
@Jason_Hermann
@Jason_Hermann 20 дней назад
Hello and yeah a lens is required. The camera will take photos without a lens, but that is because a lot of adapters and manual focus lenses have no electronics in them, so technically the camera does not know if a lens is attached in those cases. Most modern lenses have electronics these days though.

Jason, love the channel! Question, if you could have either (but only 1, not both) would you go with the Sony rx10iv or the A6700/sony 70-350mm/Sigma 17-50mm combo?
@Jason_Hermann
@Jason_Hermann Месяц назад
Thank you and easily the A6700 and lenses.... You can always buy, barrow, or rent more lenses if you ever wanted to get into portraits or macro for example and get a few killer prime lenses, go manual lenses f/1.4 and stuff like that. The RX10 IV is an incredible all-in-one camera and I would really enjoy having one for my daughters softball games and/or maybe for a vacation/ travel situation for the pure convenience and versatility. Carrying the extra weight is a burden depending on what you are up to, but when push comes to shove I usually want the better quality and the power the mirrorless camera provides with limitless lens options. In addition the A6700 has a way better battery 👍

Hey quick question do you think a v60 sd card will allow S&Q mode? Currently have a v30 and will not allow it to record

I just purchased the a6700 and very overwhelmed by the menu (I shot with Canon eos film cameras prior). Is there a way to quickly switch scene selections, like from Night Portrait to Sunset quickly? The only way I have found to move between these options is to turn the dial from auto then back to auto to get the scene selection menu.

Great starter guide. Many thanks for posting. Slightly disappointing that the panorama function has been dropped from A6700. That was a fun and convenient mode on the older models. Hopefully Sony add it back in a future firmware update.

It wasn't on the A6600, and on the A6400 it only saved as a JPEG anyway. It's more fun and more controllable to do it yourself!

@@banditalley9592 Totally agreed, but I still love the feature for convenience and to be able to quick share with friends/ family instantly when on vacations and when resolution/ max quality is not big of a deal 👊👍

@@banditalley9592 I didn’t realise it was missing on the A6600 too. I guess once they add IBIS there is no room for panorama. ;-) DIY means extra software and delayed results. You don’t know how it looks until it is too late to do anything about it.

I'm looking at the a6600 or the a6700 for my first mirrorless camera, the a6700 would be the edge of my budget, but I might be able to swing it. Is it worth it to drop the money to get a new a6700 over a lightly used a6600? Thanks!

Hi again Jason, Thank you for such a quality explanation of a6700. Superb detail on 'Set up' menu. Can you tell me how to cancel Tracking/ /Auto Tracking? When I touch the screen to change 'Drive mode' - tracking flickers around the screen and Drive mode doesn't open. Ha, it'll be something simple, still getting used to the camera. Thanks again for your inspiring videos. Colin.

Hello Colin, the circle center button inside the rear control wheel will cancel tracking. Often it's easier to go thru the Fn menu than trying to touch the screen for settings I find as well Colin as it does what your describing if you don't touch it perfectly. All the best, Jay

Hi Jay, thank you. That's great, using Fn menu rather than trying to hit the icon accurately on screen. For sure the Menu is quite intuitive when you get used to it. I'll also make use of Custom buttons and My Menu for easy access. My daughter's half Marathon this Weekend, a good time to use the a6700:)! Thanks again. Colin.

I just got this camera as an upgrade to the ZV-1. I'm a disc golfer and am trying to be a big boy and use the manual setting to record round videos. Since I'm alone I have to do all my zooming in post. Filming outside, how do these settings sound for filming 4k/60: ISO as low as I can go, Shutter Speed 1/125, Aperture ~6?

Jay, this was super helpful. I just picked up the a6700 and ,my,goodness, what a change in the menus ( my last "new camera" is the a7C ) I have been shooting with an a6500 and decided it was time to upgrade my aps-c camera and I feel just like a beginner again! I am taking this camera away with me soon and will be using it exclusively for a few weeks so that will give me a really good chance to get comfortable with it but I can already tell that I made a great purchase - so many improvements especially with the auto focus! I can't wait to find an insect! Thanks Jay for this much needed guide. I am sure that I will be referencing it again and again.

Is there a way to format the memory card to take off all of the photos but not the name of the card. Everytime I format the card with the camera the sd card name becomes "untitled". On my Nikon it will erase all of the data and leave the name of the NIKON D5100 - is there a way to have Sony keep the name of the card to SONY or a6700 when I format the card with the camera?

Hey Jason! We just bought the a6700 and noticed there was a small light on the front of the camera to the upper right. Is there a way to have that turn on when recoding video so we know it’s recording when shooting ourselves?
@Jason_Hermann
@Jason_Hermann 5 месяцев назад
Hello and that is an IR light designed for focus assisting in very low light and it will blink as self timer as well, but can't be used as a "Talley" light for video as far as I can tell and I just checked... It's way to bright for that purpose and the wrong kind of light as it would effect the video footage for sure as well. If you are recording yourself it can be a bit harder to tell I understand what you are saying. What you can do is have the screen flipped facing you and enable the "Emphasized REC Display" MENU → (Shooting) → [Shooting Display] → [Emphasized REC Display] → ON This will enable a red frame around the edges of the camera’s monitor (LCD screen) while recording a movie. You can easily check whether the camera is in standby or recording, even when you are looking at the camera monitor from an angle or at a distance. I hope that helps and all the best :)
