I’m using the R7 with the Sigma 18-35 and recently purchased the Sirui nightwalker cinema lens set for the Rf mount and I have to say I’m really digging this combo.
A lot of people here are saying you have to buy Sony. Because of the 3rd party lenses. A lot of those lenses have restrictions from Sony. Canon has adapters that will work very well with RF cameras. Canon as made 20 EF-S lenses and 192 EF lenses. Most of which you can buy for the same price used as Sony 3rd party lenses. The full frame lenses allow the use of speed boosters that open up interesting options. Or just use the Canon adapters. Choice is yours. Just because the youtubers don't have time to run through 212 lenses on adapters does not mean they don't exist. It may not be sexy. But it still works.
Quality material over here. Keep it up Josh. Love these comparisons in detail. Proud owner of a R7 with meike adapter and sigma 18-35. Cannot go wrong if you watch videos from Josh Sattin and decide where to invest.
@POTB yeah thats a test i wanted to make indoors with poor lighting and see how the camera will perform. Needles to say I was amazed. (Thats my father btw)
Great comparison. I moved from Canon to Sony for the lenses a few years back. Plus Sony was just way better at 4k back then. The overheating with the Sony is very disappointing, but I'm going to stick with it. The Canon is just too big and I wouldn't want to carry it around.
I use an R7 with the sigma 18-35. I would my much rather go with the sony because of the ecosystem even though the r7 is the better body. Canon pricing and lens ecosystem is just awful.
I think if you're just starting out this is a reasonable question. However, if you've been a photographer for a few years the best camera is the one that your lenses fit. I've just bought an A6700 to add to my A6400 and 7 lenses. The EOS R7 may have certain advantages but certainly not enough to justify replacing all my lenses.
How are you happy with Sony a6700? Have you ever felt that lowlight performance is insufficient with a6700? This seems to be my dreamcamera but I have this little concern about lowlight performance
Working for social media content tought me one thing fast - nobody will notice the sharpness or noise difference at all. So the only thing that matters is how efficient you are. I chose R7 because of the build and ergonomics. Speaking about lens options - Sigma 18-35, Sigma 50-100, Canon 10-18. Now I would hope to get more wide angle options.
no matter how great a particular camera body is, the only reason to buy a camera body is because you can attach a variety of lenses. The canon has very few lenses----VERY FEW!... whereas the Sony a6700 camera body has literally hundreds, including many brands that love to make lenses for Sony Emount camera bodies, including Sigma, a remarkable company that offers amazing high quality lenses at very inexpensive prices.
@@joggelweekend true, for my r10 I only need 1 lens the Sigma 18-35 1.8 for wedding videos, the lens didn't even came with sony's e-mount😂, plus having dozens of lenses isn't going to improve the heat management issue.
The R7 clearly has more resolution and better color. The Sony has a very noticeable green hue, which is especially noticeable on the white areas of the frame. I own both brands, and R7 is easily the winner here.
Went for the r7 because I achieve with canon quicker great results for what I do than with Sony. Lenses so far is not a problem, love to adapt Ef lenses as I also can use then the drop in nd adapter. I mainly shoot video, fotos sometimes. Would love to see from canon an rfs 11mm f1,8 though but let’s see…
Thanks for that calm comparison. I have the R7 and as you said: It is the eco system. I have several lenses for Canon and some lenses twice (EF-S 15-85 + EF-S 60 Macro, as "spare part"). Only problem: EF-M 32 1.4 doesn't fit on the R7, hoping for an RF-M version!
IBIS in the two Canon R7s I bought (and sent back) fought like hell with IS in my EF lenses -- and stability was as bad as no IS at all. Off-brand IS lenses worked fine because the R7 simply ignores them. If you stick with RF lenses or off-brands, you probably won't see any IS issues. But if you are planning on using EF lenses -- buyer beware (FYI -- I am not the only one to notice this).
I see a different story: For photo my two, three stabilized lenses work well especially the 100-400 EF mark ii. In video that lens / the stabilization system+software try to compensate for everything maybe using gyros and image recognition which leads to unwanted effects due to some smoothness of corrections. Maybe a 100-400 on an APS-C camera shoud be used with a tripod (where the IBIS works fine against wind induced motion, it is not a 40 kg tripod :).
@@POTB Canon EF 16 to 35 L, 24 to 105 L, 70 to 300 L, and 150 to 600 Sigma Contemporary. FYI, I wrote a review on the B&H website that describes the details of my experience.
@@ericrobinson8667 - The R7 simply does not work with many Canon EF lenses (it's okay with the one SIgma EF lens I own). Other than this, the camera works well, and I recommend Canon RF lenses (no one seems to complain about those).
Josh, great video! Just like others you making. Thanks for them. I found many useful information. And i want to share with you one more useful info to use. Pay more attention to jack 3.5 ports in Canon camera. When you use Sony for example and plug jack 3.5 headphones and microphone, your display no longer flips becuase of those two. That was real pain in my ass when i worked with Sony. When i`ve first time took in my hand Canon R6 that is the one of tips that i payed my attention. And it was very pleasant. They did`nt made that mistake and put those wholes far away from display flip radius that allows display to flip free without problem when heads and mic are plugged.
Chose the a6700 over the R7 just last night. I am a long time Canon user but have also used Sony and Panasonic quite a bit. Canon's major lack of lenses was the biggest reason I went a6700. Sony literally has 3-4 different choices on pretty much any lens at multiple price points when you include great 3rd party lenses.
Thanks for the comparison. I feel that either camera can do what matters. Personally I have decided to stop being part of the arms race and wil hold on to what I have for the next few years Mz kit does all I need it to do. I always enjoy watching your vids.
Josh, I have a tricky question that I've been searching extensively for an answer to. Essentially, the question boils down to comparing C-Log3 from Canon's full-frame R8/R6 II and S-Log3 from Sony's a6700/FX30. On one hand, we have the shorter dynamic range of C-Log3 but with the advantages of a full-frame sensor, and on the other hand, there's the wider dynamic range of S-Log3 but on a crop sensor. Which of these options is the better choice in terms of flexibility? Thanks for your excellent work!
For online course creation, talking head, or studio video use, which one would you choose and if there is a better option, what would it be? ZV-E10, ZV-E1, FX30, FX3? Which is the best Hybrid? Either Cannon or Sony.. Thoughts? Thanks!
Finally now we get Sigma and Tamron lenses for RF mount!!! Watching this after the news came out! R7 came back as strong option after this! We get the best from Sigma prime (16, 23, 30 and 56) and the new 18-50 2.8! I was thinking on getting a Sony, but I do think I might stay to Canon after that! Can I get an amen?
If I buy an EF-to-E mount adapter would I be able to use my lenses on the Sony a6700 without any loss in quality? I think I would still need an adapter from EF to R-mount if I stay with the Canon ecosystem right? Great video and appreciate it.
Hello, thank you for your great videos, I have a question, do you think that switching from an 8-bit camera like the Sony A7iii to a 10-bit camera like the Sony A7iv can improve the quality of my videos or buying more and better lights and learn how to use them , I am about to buy some gear for the studio but im I doubt what to buy
Lights are always a great investment and will make a huge difference in your studio. If most of your filming is in the studio I would recommend lights before upgrading your camera.
I am searching for a beginner setup for wildlife. I do not see any affordable zoom lenses for the R7. Do I miss something? Is the sony better for wildlife because of the lenses? Or do I even have to get another company?
I really appreciate all of the work that you put into this video, but I'm a little confused. You were always talking about the a6700, but all of your comparison images/videos show that you're comparing with FX30 (not a6700). Did you accidentally show us results from FX30, accidentally mislabel the images with FX30, or deliberately review the FX30 and just accidentally call it a6700? I'm deciding between R7 and a6700 and want to confirm the comparision is what I'm looking for.
Currently I own a canon 200d and my best lens are sigma 18-35 and canon 50 1.8 Im very confused in witch to pick because Sony the 4K 120p , its smaller and has way to many lenses to buy , and I would be able to use the canon lens on the Sony with an adapter right ? On the other side canon has de megapixels , dual card slot and all If you were on my shoes what would u pick? I need the camera for both video and photo Thanks
Is no one going to mention that he had the labelled FX30 in the comparisons side by side instead of A6700? Do you even not look at the final edit before you post?
For 2023, when you are with Sony or Canon, you only can stay with 1 of them, cannot "switch" the systems like some titles used cameras on Ebay/Offerup. This video is for people with kit lenses only or new with camera.
These reviewers are all starting to struggle with the concept that these 2 cameras are very similiar. Key pionts. 6700 has more slow motion choices and more codecs. The R7 is better in the hand, can last MUCH longer in warm climates and is a much better action/wildlife camera. Other than that. They are pretty hard to tell apart. There. was that so hard?
@@BavarianBricks a6700 shoots 7 fps in lossless raw. R7 shoots 15 fps with mecnaical and 30 fps in electronic mode. The buffers are measured differently. on the Sony side. Its either shooting much smaller compressed files or much slower uncompressed files. I don't know how the R7 would perform at 7 fps with compressed raw.
@@BavarianBricks there is a 200 to 800. Not cheap. But this guy will show you the good and the bad. Did not watch the review though. Just know he is honest. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-s46O6YsECEE.html&ab_channel=DuadePaton
I prefer channels like Camera Conspiracies, where at least the RU-vidr expresses his own opinion, no matter how harsh. there are too many channels like this that don't really have a soul, they don't really say anything, and the conclusion is always "everything is great so choose what best suits you." I'd rather watch promo videos from the manufacturer if all I'm gonna hear about is specs.
@@cromyjr1592 Or maybe I knew but I prefer to stick with native glass? Maybe you didn’t know that everyone doesn’t have to have the same opinion as you. 🤷🏾♂️
I wasted alot of time here all because nowhere does it say this is a video centric take. Some folks still use cameras for still photography. Total disappointment.
