Sony A7C Review (2021) and Panasonic G80/G85 Shootout. Why I am switching to Sony.

I am reviewing my first days with the Sony A7C and comparing it to the Panasonic G80/G85. How does Full Frame stack up to Micro Four Thirds?
I can now shoot in Cine2, Slog2, Slog3, HLG and HLG3. Which one will I settle on as my go-to?
What do you think about the difference between the first section shot on the Panasonic G80/G85 and the later part on the Sony A7C? Comments welcome!. I see better more realistic skin tones and face detail! As a sufferer of Vitiligo, I am not sure this is very flattering for me personally buy hey! That's life!

Hey! Nice comparison. 👍 Try different picture profiles. Right now with that lut on Sony... g85 looks better overall!

I think the G85 look is over-saturated. It's tricky because once you get used to looking at one thing, the other looks wrong and visa versa! I arrived at the G85 look over a few months and various videos made. This is "ground zero" for the A7C and I can make it look like the G85... I just do not want to as I think it is a bit false.... I am new to using LUTs and I am not sure I have that right yet. Even today I have been playing with grey level calibration and I have moved it on again. It's a process!

At 8:27 when you lean in look over exposed on the forehead, but i have to say, very nice adjustments to color using the A7C. I can't bring myself to spend $3000 CDN on a camera until I have more video projects. Until then it's the A6400 and the G85 for me.

Thanks for sharing, good comparison. I say Panasonic (and BMD got three G7, a few bmpcc and a bmcc). As I see it the sony is too much contrast and sharp in a way you do not see things in reality. Maybe if you lower saturation a little etc so not every color setting is at max it would be softer on the eye.

I’m in the same boat with a G85 and I chose to buy another used G85 so I could have matching cameras for editing. I figured with the price difference in just buying an A7C body and good lens with a constant aperture for video, I could spend on lights, lavs, gimbal, etc. A7C looks so cool though. Still question my choice.

Holy shit. $2500 with tax almost $3000 for the Sony. Thanks but I’ll stick with much g85 that’s $600. How much more wider do you want than the Olympus 7-14mm 2.8? -_-

I’m in the same boat, leaving my G9 to Sony Full Frame... interestingly I was casually telling my wife about my options (A7C and A7SIII), she told me: “Just get the better one”, she knows the price... 🤯
