A7Siii cage will not fit either, the bodies are "not" the same just like you found out about the screen protector.. Thanks for your vid, got my 7iv the day before Christmas
The screen protector you need to get is the Sony PCK-LG2 model. It's only sold via BH Photo at the moment. It's version 2 that's specifically designed for a7IV. Hope that helps.
*What Tripods and Protective cases would you recommend?* I just got my first camera (A7IV + F/1.4 24mm). I’ll shoot mostly desk videos like this, maybe some Vlogs etc. I love the shape and design of the peak design travel tripod but it’s so expensive. I was unsure whether I should have the tripod behind the desk or try to make room on my desk, but it’s quite a small desk (in terms of depth) so I think a full size tripod is best. In terms of protection, I was looking at getting a small hard shell brief case. Just for the camera and lens. Is there any small hard shell cases simply for the camera body? Cheers.
Love this! Just some added information though, the setting "Auto Power OFF Temp." isn't to protect the camera itself. It's to protect the user from getting low temperature burns. Now, this might only be relevant if you are handholding and recording for hours and hours on end, but it's a real thing.
Perfect video, thanks for helping me setup my A7IV. Can you do a video on setting dial buttons 1,2,3 for video and saving those settings? I think for S&Q could also do 1 for 2fps and 2 for the 120fps HD 10-bit.
You suffer from the knowledge curse extremely bad. You are going way too fast. You have to remember we do not know this stuff, you do! I have to keep rewinding everything you’re saying because you keep going so fast.
You have great videos...I have a question. Can I have my viewfinder on while I am plugged in my a external monitor via HDMI, because when I plug in the viewfinder turns off. Thanks!
Thanks for the video, really interesting. Just one thing, you might double check the date you set up, I believe you entered 1st Jan of 2021 instead of 2022 😉 I made this same mistake last year and it was a pain to mix the footage from two different cameras for a travel video...
Thanks for the informative video! I put that "shutter down when camera turns off" setting in my my menu section. That way I can turn it on when I'm going to change lenses but it won't happen every time I power down the camera if I'm not changing lenses.
Question for you Lee at 6:30 when I pick Face/Eye AF my camera doest give me an option 23/33 and no where Eye AF appears it just shows menu 24/33. Can you help. Thank you.
Many thanks for a fantastic tutorial I have only failed on one customisation the center wheel which comes up not set I then do everything I have done with all the others but nothing happens Please help Harry
Thanks for the assist, Lee. I just switched to the Sony a7iv from my Canon 5d3 (and previously all Canon for as long as I can remember). Your video was the perfect walkthrough of these menus that had me pretty lost. Got all of my customizations in and am ready to start shooting. Well done!
I can't believe Sony still hasn't got auto brightness for the display. This should be such a simple thing to implement in something that is constantly measuring light...
I have my eye AF turned off in the menu. I mapped eye AF to the C1 button and it now when I press C1 it locks focus on the eye. This is great and I want to keep this set up. But I also photograph animals and I would like to map the animal eye focus to another custom button to work the same way. Is there a way to map a button to toggle between animal and human eye AF?
16:14 i only get 100fps option.. hm (memory card is 900mb/s) SOLVED: Quick google showed there´s a difference setting the camera in NTSC or PAL mode. -> Setup-Area/Date-NTSC/PAL Selector
Yeah if you live in a location that uses 50hz for power you have to have it set to pal to not have flickering lights in your footage. But if you are in a location that uses 60hz you use ntsc and it lets you go to 120p
Don't you think there should be a save option, for user settings, all the settings n customizatio in one go and export to other devices.. will help a lot, but going over each options n setting it helps you rethink!
Thanks Lee, a really helpful video! Being new to Sony, your video saved me a bunch of time. Screen Protectors: Bought two before realising the nominal 3" diagonal measurement makes for several different screen dimensions, across the Sony range. New A7IV specific protectors are now available - I got a pack (x3) Komet glass ones through Amazon at £7.99 (c$10). They fit easily and I have two spares in case of damage.
Hi Lee. I’m considering A74 thank you for the teaching set up. One thing could you think about explaining why you’re changing pre set menus and what effect that has. Also sorry it’s an age thing to follow, please go a little slower.
Thank you Lee. My A7IV arrived yesterday and your video was a big help in getting it set up. I have shot both Sony and Nikons. With all of them there was a toggle function for the AEL button. With this camera when I release the button, I loose the exposure reading. I have gone thru the menu system and documentation, but can't find any information. Can you help? Thank you
I use prograde v90 sd cards. But I do have a prograde cf express card as well. I haven’t noticed a difference. Do you hav extended temp turned on? That helps with overheating shut down
Hi Lee, quick question When I take a picture, it looks like it is exposed correctly when checking it on the LCD screen but when I get it into lightroom my picture always come out under exposed, by quite a bit. Not too much of a problem as I'm shooting in uncompressed raw. I always have to push up the shadows to the max in lightroom. I'd like to know why this is happening and how I can get the pictures to come out less darker. I have my iso set to manual. Cheers for any advice. I'm curious how to expose properly in camera. Auto ISO helps but I prefer to be in manual. I also have both cards set to RAW.
Hi Lee. May I ask if there is a setting to be able to make the A7IV MECHANICAL shutter sound more silent? Or is the mechanical shutter sound completely fixed? I will appreciate your input thanks.
This setup guide rocks! Very concise. I really appreciate that you point out some places where it might make sense to diverge from your setup based on personal use cases.
Hi Lee! Quick question about a problem with the A7 IV. I don't know if you've noticed but if you're up close on an animal using animal eye AF, if you try to focus on let's say the eye of a cat/dog, it will always focus outside of the eye and it will be soft. The outside of the eye will always be in focus and never the eye. Have you had this problem? I'd be curious to see your experience with it! Thank you!
It also does it on human eyes when you're up close and trying to only get the eye in focus. And no it's not a minimum focus distance problem before someone calls that out 😅
Depends on what I’m shooting, if I shoot at higher shutter speeds and I can remember to turn it off I will because it changes the look of the bokeh. But most of the time I leave it on. Helps with shutter shock at lower shutter speeds
@@LeeZavitz Thanks for the quick response. I just got the camera yesterday and noticed it was on by default as well as the mechanical shutter. On my a6400 you don't have the option for both simultaneously. I noticed as well that you aren't a back button focus shooter either. Correct?
Sony says to open the screen. From the tests I’ve done. If you leave the screen closed and you are recording at the highest bitrate it will shut down at 30mins. If you have the screen open it will run longer than the 2hrs I wanted to wait. So it has to be people with screen closed or especially not setting auto temp to high
