Wow ! Thank you Brian ! I was struggling between the C2 and A80K and this video just eliminated the C2 for the ridiculous panel glare compared with the A80K . Well done !
Can't compare reflections with the protective film still over the panel though. Utterly stupid that it's left on for a comparison, but I understand that these units will have to be sold as well at some point.
@@LogiForce86 The panel glare is real though without the protective film. I got the C2 77" but find the glare more distracting that that on my 65" A80J so I am replacing the C2 with the 77" A80K...
I've never understood why the company engineers just don't calibrate them or hire someone to calibrate them from factory? Like I know they have different presets but the fact that theirs a whole industry of people to calibrate them doesn't that mean that they're not doing it to a proper standard in the factory?? Why don't they just make a mode that's calibrated perfectly as a calibrator would do it ?? I don't get it...
Very interesting comment. I really want an oled but sadly I will buy the A95K, because it sounds like it will be better out of the box. I don’t want to have to play with the picture settings
It because professional calibration is also environmentally based whether it’s a dark or bright room, lots of ambient light or none. It’s impossible for manufacturers to “pre-cali” TVs as they are unaware of you viewing environment. OLED’s still have the highest accuracy out of box as high as 86% compared to a traditional flat screen at 65-70%. However, to gain that close to 100% accuracy in the specific environment a professional ISF Calibration is warranted. Hope this helps. Cheers.
From what I remember that Sony X900H was nearly perfect out of box when I bought it. And LG 32GP850 monitor was almost perfect out of box too! Making calibration easy. The worst TV I have ever had was LG UJ654T and it was rather blue cast making it difficult to achieve the perfect calibration, it was impossible. Never again buy cheap IPS LG with very poor colour accuracy.
manufacturing tolerances and efficiency is the main reason. The televisions is ultimately cheaper when the manufacturer doesn't have to use time and resources on calibrating each set individually that rolls of the assembly line. light emmits differently and display technology in practice is complicated to manufacture. for example the raw materials used can have an impact on display tolerances and picture output depending on all sorts of factors, such as the tempeture of the ground and the level in which the material was dug up from. It is not only limited to these to examples of course. I personally think it favors us as the consumer in the end, since we get the choice of saving the money if we do not care (which most people does not...sadly) or we can pay the extra and have the set calibrated
Wow, C2 and A80K look so close. They both look great for a youtube viewing. I'm still rocking a Samsung 950 LED LCD 55" 1080p TV from 2008 in my living room and I'm excited about my next TV upgrade, whenever that might be. Glad I'll get so much more for the money than my last purchase.
Both look so similar. 2022 by far the best year to get a TV. Amazing comparison video. Here in Canada the C2 55 inches is 2400$ plus warranty plus taxes 3000$ the C1 is 2000$ all included. New TVs here are so expensive. Enjoying my C1 Brian. I saw them side by side with the C2 and S95B at 2000$ all included with four years warranty the C1 is the Best Buy.
Picked up a C2 from Value Electronics less than a week ago and couldn’t be happier with it. It’s my first OLED as well. Really wanted to go with the Sony due to its better processing but the very low input lag and higher brightness of the LG was what made me go for it 😅
I'm sure my C2 that is coming tomorrow will be great. Maybe the Sony would have been better, maybe not, but paying more for a 65 inch that is maybe not as bright and $400 more than the 77 inch C2 that I bought just didn't do it for me. Also was afraid of the higher lag of the Sony for gaming and only having two HDMI 2.1 and one is the EARC, so no way to connect PS and X-Box and a soundbar unless you connect the soundbar with optical. I was tempted by the Samsung but they changed the picture from when the tests were done so it is not as bright. as it was, and I've heard lots of complaints of bent screens. Otherwise , it might have won, but it still didn't come in 77 inch. I considered the G2, but the C2 is so close it's hard to cough up another grand for something that makes a very small difference. I keep hearing the commentator saying he "feels" the G2 is a bit brighter with a bit more detail. When Ii know people are very happy with the C2 I had to make that my next tv. Maybe not the world's best, but I think it is likely the best value in a high-end OLED this year. I'll probably comment more in a week or so.
How's the picture quality between the 2? I just came back from Bestbuy and the A80K looked much richer in color than the C2. I may have revisit these sets again.
@@jessa.3857 I think you can adjust the C2 to look nearly identical to the Sony if that is your desire. I'm a resolution fan and love good color without going overboard. To me, the C2 is a little too bright on the greens with some video, but it is easy to adjust it. I will post a reply to another person who asked me about my experience: I am delighted with this tv! It took a little time to find all the best picture settings (not too much), and you need to find the sound settings you like (AI Sound Pro for me), and the remote could be better. I don't like the position of the volume control. The Web OS is better than some and better than it was but could be better. Still it isn't a deal breaker at all. I love the picture, I like having 4 HDMI 2.1 inputs and have three filled now. When I find the power cord to my PS4 I will have all four filled. I'll use EARC if that happens before I buy my sound bar (I'm researching). The sound on this tv is very good after you dial it in a bit, especially. I read some reviews that liked it and others said it was mediocre. It is definitely better than that. It sounds very good to me and I'm a lifelong (66 years old0 musician and I have fairly good ears. I'm not in a hurry to buy a soundbar (or a new receiver-my $1600 Denon died and nobody really wants to fix it It -s out of date now so a new one would be necessary and I don't have any rear speakers, so I haven't decided.) No hurry, this sounds great for a panel. I will try to post some pictures that I took of the screen while video was playing. I didn't pause it so there is some motion artifact. I used my iphone 11 pro max. Will try to reply with these pics. I am very happy that I got the 77 inch C2 for the price of the older Sony 65" or less that the Sony QD-OLED 65 inch. The Samsung S95B in 65 inch would have been cheaper, but I am afraid they have some quality issues and that tv is not as bright as it was. The C2 is very bright. I had the curtains open on my 6x10 feet window to the side of the tv today and had no issues. I think the C2 in 77 inches beats those tv's at 65 by a mile (at least for me) and I think both are great tv's. QD-OLED is likely the way of the future, but this year, too many things made the C2 the better buy.
@@MrAuell the Sony look better and want it. But I’m a gamer on ps5. No sound bar and barely play my Xbox X. What do you think is the better choice Sony or c2 and much of a lag difference? What am missing out on far as gaming if I don’t go with the C2?
@@FlawlessxVictory other than lower input lag/4x 2.1 HDMI, freesync and g sync are things you'd miss. The ps5 doesn't support them so it's nothing to worry about on that side, but for PC and Xbox. As a show/movie tv, Sony's processing is unmatched. Your older content looks great, your new stuff looks even better. Adjusting a few settings you can get what feels like 'real life' viewing and colour accuracy. Watching action shows/movies and sports has been great with the motion tech from Sony as well.
A80k 77 "+ Ps5 = DREAM SETUP For me, colors and anti-reflection (sound probably also) are better with Sony Are you planning to compare the A80k vs A80j?
Hello Brian, I really love and appreciate your channel! I am quadriplegic and can’t get around to look at the new technology but with your content I feel like I am shopping with a buddy.
Thank you so very much GimpyGGaming! I'm so truly happy that I could be of some help to you. I'm always here if you need anything and thank you for being part of the community and family
Both amazing, but feels like the A80K narrowly knocks it down, it has slightly more detail and even slightly brighter in most scenes here. The A80K can hang in there with the G2 and even the S95B, due to the superior processing. It's also currently going at great prices due to Soccer World Cup promotions, and I'am seriously considering to scoop it up...
@@bfwaring While I only compared motion at Best Buy for a short time, the A80k was a bit smoother when I was comparing an NFL game. What stood out to me on the Sony were the amazing colors and the blacks. You cannot tell where the bezel is when watching. Another plus for me is that it is in a room with no windows, so i don't worry about any glare. Finally, I have a PS5 hooked up to this bad boy, and all I will say is that you have to see it to believe it! That being said, I believe that you can't go wrong with either tv. I would have been just as happy with the C2, but between the tv, the ps5, and the hta-7000 soundbar, which I also purchased, I am in mini-home theater heaven!
When we were at BestBuy we noticed the LG C2 had a much thinner Matrix Border compared to the C1 that was next to it, which helped making it feel like you get more picture.
I got both the 77” LG C2 and Sony A80k because I couldn’t decide which one at store so I’m testing it out. The Sony to me has way better picture to me out of the box and after calibration. It seems to be bluer but the clarity, depth and motion is noticeably better on the Sony. I’m kind of torn here because people keep saying the C2 is better. 🤷🏽♂️
Great comment and question! My response will always be to trust your eyes and what impacts you most in your environment. The C2 is really only better as it has more features and most of those are gaming based. Hope this helps
Thx for putting the comparison together, To me, The initial contents looked similar on both TVs , but towards the end in some video clips , I felt Sony delivers more natural color, especially ice and glacier. LG seemed very bluish and over saturated.
hey Brian i am leaning towards both these tv's but not much of a gamer and don't know if ill like the web os would you say the Sony is better for movies an tv because of the better contrast and blacks or are they pretty similar also do you think the brightness is pretty even or does the LG outperform in that aspect.
Man your channel is blowing up. I see your videos in TV facebook groups and AV forums all over the internet. You have great content, and I am happy your channel is doing so well.
With Black Friday coming up I was set on LG c2 but now the Sony A80k is looking better. I want it also for gaming as well 65” what would you recommend lg or Sony ?
@@ManuelMedellin. A90J is superior to G1. G2 has to be compared to A95K where Sony will beat everyone else. Anyway Sony A90 will be better than any 2022 LG and Samsung in color accuracy where Panasonic and Sony are the Gold standard in market
@@lifeextensionespana580 Don't be silly, G2 is WRGB OLED, it doesn't "have to be" compared to a QD OLED. Samsung S95B is Sony's archrival for the A95K, and it's 1200 $ cheaper, and most people buy it over the A95K. Trust me A95K will flop in Sales because it's so overpriced.
How so, im looking at 16:22, and 16:09, they all have much more different shades and colours on the sony whilst the LG has like only a couple shades of colour on the trees and on the ice, and on 15:56 if you pause it appears LG Blurs more when it comes it motion and the sony doesn't, LG looks a lot more saturated im guessing to compete with QDOLEDS however it makes it look too unnatural and just a solid colour without variations of the different shades of orange or red for example
@@falsehope5529 the stock color temperature on the LG is cooler (7000k) while the Sony is more accurate. That is why the snow looks blue and the trees lack warmth. I bet after some tweaking they are very close.
I think I have to give the heads up to the C2 in comparison to the A80k, the image quality just seemed more more detailed to me. Thanks for another great video.
I thought the same. I froze at the axe in the stump and the C2 has greater detail no doubt. The brightness of the A80k seems to wash out those details.
I'd say the Sony actually shows more detail. Not just seems to show, it just does. And overal does seem a bit more colour accurate. At least going by this video. LG is still the better choice for gaming in terms of features though.
I don’t think I fully agree with you there, the Sony is a tiny bit better with glare reduction but both handle fairly close have seen with the J. I personally don’t see the difference to justify the extra price personally when I love LG’s picture processing personally. They do exceed BOTH, just in different content. LG for Regular cable tv and and Sony for Movies, both both are amazing TVs and would be very hard to see a difference unless side by side. Can’t go wrong either way IMHO.
Brian kicking off the weekend once again with 2 interesting masterpiece TVs. Thank you Value Electronics for making all this possible! I'm rooting for the x80k for having better motion in regular content. Though, we've seen motion being top notch on LG newest generation as well. Contrast enhancers as in dealing with black crush might determine the real winner this time. Even color accuracy or volume might be a thing. Let's see.
Contrast enhancer/dynamic contrast actually causes more black crush…it basically does an S-curve. Making darks, darker, and brights brighter. Both at the expense of detail. Just thought you should know that.
I bought my first OLED tv ever 3 weeks ago, and I went with the 65" Sony A80K at $1,700 US Dollars. My previous TV was a Sony Bravia (2017 Model) LED tv. I fell right in love with the userface/home screen setup, how quick it is. The remote with voice assistant was a neat feature. One of my favorite features that bought me in was being able to blu-tooth my samsung galaxy ear buds, or my skullcandy crusher anc headphones. I knew I wanted to stick with sony, and I wanted an OLED, and to have a tv great for gaming with frame rate up to 120fps. I am very happy with this A80K tv. The picture is stunning right out of the box, and my jaw was dropping watching oled demos on youtube in 2160p HDR quality. I was blown away how great the tv speakers sound with their acoustic surface audio. Gaming is amazing
This is a fantastic video for someone looking at both, except the reflections at times on the c2 (while I was leaning toward C2) just looked alot worse, like night and day different, I know you said its where it is in the room, but it would have been awesome if you swapped the tv's positions in the room. Its hard to overlook that amount of reflection just from your video. But without swapping spots its hard to know.
If you look at Sony's bezel thickness, it's not an ex-panel. Color is also a decolorized color. It's an evo panel last year. The a80k was an evo panel last year(not ex evo), and used a semi-gloss
Hi Jimmy! The LG C2 is my top overall pick for 2022. It simply does everything very well and has more features than the competition. It's also a very good value with Flagship picture quality. Hope this helps and hope all is well in Ireland.
Great video, Brian. I do get why you compare the panels with all features turned off, but I would really like to see, in addition, how they compare with all enhancers and other good stuff turned on for us in the audience who like to use them. This would actually help us greatly in our purchases, as no one ever does that kind of content.
Exactly they're basically the same TV if you don't turn on any processing. Literally super fucking close since the panels are all coming from the same place
@@medovk yea I know I was just trying to answer your question, it’s all good. Usually Standard picture mode has all these enabled but I just feel enhancements are kind of deceiving for comparisons if you get what I mean. And im not against enhancements at all even though I love a properly calibrated set more, the x80J I bought for my mom looks way better with enhancements she can’t get enough of that tv.
@@medovk also to give another example of that I mean, some of LGs enhancements usually affect the whole image in general while Sonys tend to be object based usually applying to only what’s needed.
Another great vid! The colors and contrast on Sony’s seemingly had more depth and accuracy, but they trade blows when it comes to highlights and brightness imo. Looking forward to it vs the G2/A90J. Biggest concern is that it’s not fully glossy, maybe the processing improvements make up for it a little.
Biggest concern with the A80K is really again...Gaming. ABL on static elements in Game Mode was a desaster on the A80J, wonder if it's still there just as badly, but I reckon it is. :(
C2: smaller bezels, better vrr and gaming options, Center Stand, A80K: more natural colors, more for movie content, better motion, Good ABL, Both great OLEDs.
Ikr! I can’t wait to get my C2 tomorrow, and see the new design in person. As a CX owner, the bezels, and super thin panel were always something that bugged me slightly. Idk, I just felt many other non OLED displays had a cleaner look to them, aesthetically. Despite them being often thicker sets. Take for instance the 8K Samsung’s with the infinity screen or whatever they call it. Or the r625 I had right before my CX. I just felt it could use improvement, and I’m glad LG finally changed the design, and stand on the C series.

Hello looking between these 2 tv’s. Which one is the best to get. I know lg is better for gaming and I do plan to slightly game on these tv’s ,but I mostly game on pc on the aw3423dw which has the same panel as S95B.
I wouldn’t judge reflection handling when there is plastic film on the LG. I believe there’s film on both sets. But LG’s are literally a mirror with their protective film not removed. I’m still scratching my head on why reflection handling was even brought up in the video.
@@ye-rochawkins5432 have you owned a LG oled, the screens are like mirrors, no diffusion. Its one of their most annoying aspects. Last year the a80J had the more matt screen also. Some people liked it others did not. Personally I buy a TV to watch TV, not to watch myself!
@@lancealex382 I actually do. I have a CX I’m watching right now. Other than the A80J last year, and this years 80K possibly, the reflection handling on all Sony’s is nearly identical to LG’s…I have zero issues with reflection handling btw. And my room isn’t the most light controlled at all times. So there’s that… I have a C2 coming in a few hours btw…so if it’s as bad as you claim, I don’t think I’d be buying another one. I watch content, not me. And I have a light opposing the TV, I often leave on. When watching SDR. FYI. You lose perceived contrast due to the semi-matte/gloss screen on the A80J, in the presence of ambient light. There’s trade offs. Actually, I couldn’t really think of a reason to want a semi-matte/gloss screen. OLEDs handle reflection just fine imo. No TV is going to truly work in a ton of light, and be enjoyed the way the content is actually supposed to look, be viewed. Especially HDR content. Why do you think it’s fair to compare screens with protective films on them? It is not representative, or indicative, of the real performance. LG’s and Sony’s use two different protective films, which are there to protect during shipping, and handling. Not to leave on while watching. LG’s is like a mirror. Was on my CX. Will be on my C2…..Til I peel it. Which is so satisfying I might add. Sony’s film isn’t reflective, and more clear, if I remember correctly.
@@lancealex382 okay bud. Keep living in the land that Sony leagues better in regards to this. I have no ABL issues, that a Sony doesn’t have, outside a A90J when it comes to full field luminance, which still has ABL..and I can disable ASBL, which is very rough on the Sony’s, and zero way to disable it. Each to their own tho. But you’re dreaming, and living in an alt reality, if you really think Sony’s handle reflections that much better than LG’s. You didn’t answer my question btw. What world is it okay to judge reflection handling with protective films on the screens? I mean, did you even remove it on your CX? 😂 Doesn’t sound like it. It sounds like you’re ignoring me, bc you realize how silly that actually is. Just check a site like Rtings, which does objective, measurement based reflection tests, (probably one of the test that hold most weight by them) and compare a C2 to the matte A80J. See the results for yourself.
De Sony A80K, looks good. The question and curiosity of many would be; how does it compare to the G2 and the A90J. The Sony and the G are a tier higher I imagine, but if you take the A90J .. the A80K is a newer model. Although the A90J has the heatsink, A80K not ?? When I would buy a OLED, I would prefer one with a Heatsink in it (G2, A90J, A95K, Panasonic LZ), Not due to higher potential brightness because of that. I don't really care. It's due to potentially lesser burn-in. Or better said; that the screen cools down faster. Personally I can buy every kind of screen, not worrying about burn in or whatever (due to my watch habits). But my family watch a lot of cable with a lot of fixed logo's ... for hours and hours. So in that case; better a screen with heatsink, then without. Even then I'm a little nervous about buying OLED, due to what I mentioned.
Excellent comment Ron! The A80k is definitely closer to the a90j but I still favor the a90j for the reasons you mentioned. Oleds are far better in regards to burn in even if you have small children. Thanks for watching
@@BRIANSTECHTHERAPY Thank you and your welcome ;) It's not easy to choose a TV (for my current Pioneer Kuro Plasma). I wanted a Sony or Panasonic LZ in the first place. But due to the prices here (Netherlands) of Sony. I think I swap to another brand. The beautiful A95K is exactly what I wanted, specs wise and what I expected (there are reviews of it online). But it will set you back 4400 Euro's. the X95K that I mentioned in another post lately is 3700 Euro's. If you go to the LG G2, in 65 inch (as the ones I mentioned), is at it's most expensive 2900 Euro's (without discounts counted), and the Panasonic LZ 1500 is 2999 Euro, without discount. That's a huge difference. 1500 Euro's with the A95K, 800 with the X95K. To wrap it up .. I also want a soundbar. My eyes felt on the Bang & Olufsen Soundstage 2 in Black Metal finish a 2100 Euro's. If you add discounts towards the G2 now or later this year ... you will get the Soundbar and G2 for the same or around the price as a A95K. That looks to me a better price for what you get. The great A90J would also be a option, but I will hang the TV flat to a wall. So that's why a G2 (most likely). No idea why Sony is this expensive here, also compared to the rest of the EU.

I do like the reflection handleling on the SONY OLED's but since we have a 77inch a80j and 75inch X95k, we'll probably upgrade our old LG E9 with a 77inch C2 here in a couple weeks. My wife loved our E9 OLED and likes the remote and interface.
I'm curious is Sony better in reqards to reflection? I'm thinking the LG has more glare and would be at a disadvantage in a bright living room. What is your take?
The C2 is like a mirror - for an OLED, you'd expect C2 or A80k to use an anti-glare filter or even choose a matte screen. What's Apple using on their monitors? OLEDs should use them too. That would make OLEDs very bright in bright rooms - possibly as bright as LEDs.
hello, congratulations just subscribed to your channel, which of the two has a panel with brighter and three-dimensional images between lg c2 and sony a80k? Greetings from Italy
Thank you, Antonio, and welcome to the family. Both TV'S are excellent and have a very similar level of picture quality. Both have that three-dimensional look. The LG is definitely the better option for gaming as it has more features. The Sony is the better movie TV with slightly better upscaling. Hope this helps and I hope all is well in Italy. Ciao!
Need your input Brian. Both models are currently at the same price. My living room is pretty bright during the day and looking at the C2 there is tons of reflection, which is concerning to me. I do not do any gaming, strictly Netflix, Amazon and RU-vid streaming. What is your guidance/opinion?
The reflection handling of both is virtually the same my friend. I'd grab whichever suits your particular needs. Samsung qled is really the only panel able go truly combat bright room.
I feel like I'm being lied by cameras in every video because this A80K looks flawless and it can't be if even the top tier videos I've seen don't look this flawless. In what mode was the beginning presentation? And was the A80K calibrated?
That's hella true, I went to BestBuy and they didn't even have Samsung s95b on display. I left disappointed, I was gonna buy it if it impressed me in person vs what people have been saying on RU-vid. Great Video, I honestly see the Sony as a better Tv, in the same way that Oled's have a certain look, Sony Tv's as you say Brian have their own signature...
I have both TV's and definitely prefer the C2. I'm a gamer and being able to leave Dolby Vision on with VRR, ALLM, Nvidia G-Sync, 4 HDMI 2.1 ports and 120hz is a huge plus. I think the LG gets brighter too with the newer EVO panel. The Sony definitely is better for movies with more accurate colors out of the box but having to choose between Dolby Vision OR the gaming features is just dumb at this price point.
Hey, thanks for sharing the videos as always question for you in person what is the reflections that much better on the Sony the LG look very washed out towards the end of the video.
With zero reflection, in a pitch black room, which panel is better to have? Glossy or semi gloss? Is it extreme or does it even make a difference? I'm leaning towards Sony, but I've seen the matte finish on a friend's older Sony and i don't like it.
Hi Brian , another great video I have narrowed it down to the C2 or A80J. I don't know which one to chose I have a Xbox and I pay madden and i watch sports like football and basketball so I'm concerned about the A80J dimming along with not being bright enough . This will be my first oled coming from a Samsung ks8000. I was going with the G2 but because of the way my current set up is I would have to do too much modification to make it sit flush that being said do you think the processing is much better on the A80J than the C2 for upscaling lower quality content?
Talking about Sony, I’m in the middle to choose the A90J from 1 year ago, and the a80k of this year… about quality picture in films and gaming, what I can choose? What is the Best Buy?
In the UK in May 2023 the dilemma is between the A84K 65" vs LG C2 65" vs A90J 55" all in the same price range . And, after watching all the reviews it seems that the best option is the LG C2 65"
Unfortunately at Best Buy we have no say on when we get the panels on the wall. A vendor comes and puts them up and disappears after. Not the case for all our TVs but definitely is for the Premium ones like these. We're discouraged from getting rid of the 2021 on the wall until then.
Hi, can I ask you which model does a better job with upscaling lower res content(720p-1080p) between the a80j vs a80k, and the a80k vs the c1/c2 or g1/g2? Really appreciate it!
Hello Al, in the case of upscaling lower resolution content Sony is the clear winner with theory XR Cognitive Processor. The A80k is a bit better than the 80J . The A80J is the better value. Hope this helps and thank you for watching
@@BRIANSTECHTHERAPY Hi and thank you so much for the response. I will be purchasing up one of these TV’s today . So I just wanted confirm, do you also believe that the a80k is also better upscaling low res then the g2 or c2? I was on the fence between the 77” a80k and 77” g2, with upscaling capabilities being the determining factor as I watch 90% regular cable tv which is obviously 720p,1080i,1080p. Thanks again sir!
I’m stuck between these two. I own a ps5 - not an Xbox series x , and I’m told the Sony a80k gets some special tone mapping for ps5 to make up for Dolby vision. Other than this one issue I really want the lg c2 tbh , should this one issue be a game changer ?
I have the 55" LG C1 Oled tv. I wish I went with the 65". I'm very interested in the C2 but worried about judder that I sometimes experience with the C1. It's beautiful and I love it but I'm a gamer and also Movies at 24hz content the judder is bad! I am very educated on how to adjust settings and I always get so close to perfect and then I'll see something new that's distorted and make additional adjustments. I'm not claiming to be a professional but I can navigate the settings very well. Is it possible to be expecting to much from my tv and where the tech is? Or is there a TV out there with crisp images and smooth movement without dimming down to near black with in 20 min? Idk but what do u say to someone like me that constantly makes adjustments to imagery, more than I do actually enjoying my TV... Thanks for the video.. and if u actually read this long comment.
I know this comment is a little old by now but apparently LG made massive strides in judder with the C2. Now its said to rival Sony's motion handling. Source here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7LETJ9HN7Ag.html (segment of interest starts at 10:30)
Question for you Brain :). Did you noticed any motion judders with the A80K with low bitrate or cable channels?. I noticed a fair amount of people complaining about judders and I noticed it too. I also saw Quantum TV guy made a video on it I know he can say somethings LOL but in that video he made is 100% correct. With panning videos you have to set motion to auto or 1 however with some contents it's just doesn't do anything especially some cable channels with words ticker (words scrolling across the bottom of the screen). I checked the same contents on LCD Samsung and Sony TVs and it's fine so must be something with OLED with the instant response time but I am pretty sure with a FW update they can fix this since it's not fixed yet. Also the noise around words are really bad on the A80J even if you turn the option to remove noise, most of these issues are not with 4K HDR.
Yo Brian! One of my favorite guys out there! 😊 So I gotta ask. Are you comparing reflection handling with the plastic still on the screen? It sure looked like the LG has the plastic on it, which intensifies the reflection by quite a lot. There could be a difference in the plastic on each screen too. So I wouldn’t call this a fair comparison, or really even one, if the plastic was on one, or both sets. As a LG owner, the protective film is literally a mirror. I just wanted to let you know, also, that I’m not going S95B. I will be either keeping the C2 when it comes tomorrow. I might go G2 tho. Either way, I think I’ll be getting a slight improvement over my CX. And as you know, my CX experience was tainted from the get go, despite me now loving the display, after the FW updates improved it so much. That alone made me a believer in LG, and the support of their products. If Samsung had implemented QDO in a better manner, meaning it was more accurate, tracked PQ EOTF more precisely, implemented a proper HGiG/Hard Clip in game mode, had better calibration controls to get the set where it needs to be, etc…(as a purist, and someone that does dabble a little in calibration)…I would definitely go QDO, as the technology is a clear step up over WRGB. However, knowing the display can never truly create creative intent, and will always artificially boost luminance and color, is where I checked out. I know how appealing that is to some, and I respect that. I do. Bc there is a wow factor you get. But for me personally, I’d rather have the image be more in line with the way the creator had it look, while sitting there grading said content. I know I’m getting that with a LG OLED.
I just recalibrated cx on latest firmware and lost 50 nits. You said you gained 50 nits some updates ago. Around 700 nits from previous calibration, which may have been close to a year ago. Now I'm at 650 nits. Wonder if this will happen to c1 and eventually c2 owners after a couple years.
@@bloomerb4162 Good question. I hope not. I highly doubt it tho…All OLEDs will lose brightness over time, regardless of FW updates, or not. It’s just the organic nature of them. I don’t think LG is nerfing brightness tho. I only saw my CX get better with time. And I’m not speaking just in terms of brightness…but mainly in terms of the processing. Unfortunately, I didn’t re-test the peak brightness of my CX, prior to getting rid of it. So I can’t really comment. I do know it’s a good bit dimmer than the C2. A pretty noticeable amount. I can ask a buddy of mine to recheck his peak brightness on his 77” CX, and see what he finds. However, we both saw a little bump after the same FW update (can’t remember which on, but one of the last two on the CX). My CX lost some brightness after calibration…bc it was pushing green and blue a lot, in the white balance, OTTB/with factory calibration/white point. On my C2, blue was still a little high, but I actually had to add green, which is the main driver of luminance. I’m still breaking in the set tho, so I haven’t gone crazy, other than aligned the white point to D65.
@@bloomerb4162 btw…are you comparing non calibrated peak brightness, prior to FW update, to calibrated peak brightness after FW update? Bc you’re typically always going to lose a little peak brightness on the CX, due to the green and blue being pushed a lot in the white balance. Also, are you using a spectro? Bc if not, I wouldn’t be trying to even calibrate it, with confidence, in terms of white point, and colors. It’s like a guessing game, and results are usually not very good, with just an i1 Display Pro, in terms of being correct. At least with CalMan, and their EDR. It has gotten better tho. Do you happen to have a display with a proper looking, and know accurate D65 white point? Take for instance, and iPhone with TruTone disabled, which is basically bang on? If so, check and see if the white points align. Usually you’ll find it’s too green, if all you’re using is a i1 Display Pro.
@@ye-rochawkins5432 yes it could be degradation, I cant be sure it was just the FW. I also used the wrgb edr this time instead of raw xyz, though I wouldn't think that would have much effect.
@@ye-rochawkins5432 yes the 700 nits was after calibration as was the 650. I looked into a used spectro but just never pulled the trigger on it. My cx looks like a nice warm paper white color, doesn't seem to be pushing green.
Brian and the gang .....smashed it again, just great info. Thoughts, if you stop video on 9.31 minutes, what are your thoughts on what you see, what anyone else sees? I really wanted the Sony to kick ass, but note this Axe handle looks more detailed, block has more grain, definition on knife handle, the leather knife pouch and it's strap, lastly the feather looking wood filings.....all look better on the C2. Any thoughts please? Thanks you 🤗🇬🇧
The LG C2 83" is now priced at $3,999 (Best Buy and Costco) with that price coming down, Sony 80K largest size in 77". So pondering whether makes sense to fork out more for the LG C2 at 83" for more immersive movie experience. Not a gamer at all so that is not a factor. Only consideration in this household is the movie, 4K picture experience and the upscaling capability for lower sources such as regular HDTV from cable box or streaming. Does this tip it back to the Sony 77 even with LG C2 83 dropping to $4K price?? Appreciate any opinions or comments!
Hello Jami, great question! I would easily choose the C2 especially at 83" . The 16% size difference is massive and make a huge difference for movies. Also LG's upscaling has most definitely caught up to the competition. Lastly the LG has better Dolby Vision implementation over the Sony. I'd choose the C2 over the A80k at the same size let alone at 83". C2 all day. Hope this helps
I have a 77 C2 coming next week. I would possibly have gone Sony if the A95K had been available in a a 75-77 inch model and was not ridiculous in price. The lack of HDMI 2.1 inputs and the increased lag on the Sony were also factors. I think the Sony processing is likely the best, but I'm not sure I'll notice the difference in my house. Maybe in a year or two I'll go Sony.
The colors of the A80K look much more natural. Is this because of a setting or a both "out of the box"? I ordered the C2 for Movies only (no gaming) but im not sure if the A80K would be a better choice.. Especially if i see the colors here
I just ordered an LG C2 which will come tomorrow and I think the Sony might look a little nicer on your video but it might be because I'm seeing more reflection on where the C2 is sitting. I already have an LG C1 65 inch which I really like so I bought the C2 77 inch for my basement.
Congratulations On your purchase Gary. You are correct in regards to the C2 being closer to the window. I personally feel the c2 is better and more versatile. I hope you enjoy and thank you for watching
@@BRIANSTECHTHERAPY it might be more versatile, but do the differences in fine detail bother you? As a photographer, I noticed the differences in the fur on the lion right away.
Hi Brian you probably don’t remember me but we met when you and FOMO were at Value electronics testing the the G2 and C2. I was wondering at what time are you dropping your gaming review on this TV. I am buying my Tv tomorrow I’m thinking of the Sony A80J and it would help a lot. Thank you
Hello Ivan, I'll be testing the A80K today in gaming and that vid will be up Monday. I'll let you know how it goes. The A80J is now and excellent value and definitely worth getting
I have a c1 and it's response time for gaming is amazing, I'd almost call it organic. But I prefer sony color and processing, is this years a80k caught up with the c1 for that same feel in gaming? (Read somewhere it was down from 16ms to 8.5ms but no confirmation) Also would love a bit more brightness.
People comparing at best buy and selecting Sony over C2 is a joke..i pushed best buy to change them both to movie maker and sony was too dark.may be again it can be adjusted further. C2 was still holding up the brightness better..glare is hardly an issue either at home..c2 design is also miles ahead and glossy screen looks amazing at home!
This is odd but @10:53 the wood on the C2 has more detail over the A80K. In recent comparisons of the C2 with the A80J and A90J which used the same images, last year's Sony models both had more detail and balanced colors than the C2. If the A80k can't beat the C2 (which I'm sure it does), then we should run and buy the A80J and sell them as C3s 😀
Don’t know about more detail, but Sony’s definitely has a colder color hue, which could be good or bad depending on your taste. In other shots the A80K was clearly more accurate imo
too much brightness in daytime scenes makes you lose all the details you mention ... pay attention to it. Fruit scene, lego chips scene axe scene etc etc
Wow this Great content. I just Picked up a 65" A80k and...... IDk, It looks "Good" but im not blown away. But im a novice and have no idea how to calibrate this thing. Theres not much info on what settings I should use to get the best picture. I did plug my 4K verison fios cable box (which is all we have plugged in) into the 4k HDMI and set the input to enhanced with dolby vision but, it just looks ok and very dark (we have it on dolby bright and brightness at max). My wife actually likes out 8 yr old simple LED tv that we're replacing better. I dont really know what to do here. I feel like this thing should be CRUSHING my old tv. I must be doing something wrong.
