It's always hilarious, when you tubers talk about a product they have never used. As an A9III, A1, A9, A7RII and A7S owner, I can tell you, the A9III is simply the most advanced camera on the market. period.
Glad you enjoyed! With these unscripted videos, I made my own omission, I missed out that the A1 has a dual gain circuitry, and if sony were to shift that a bit, they could solve the DR issue and it may not be one at all, but the shutter speed issue remains.
New tech is always going to have challenges for early adopters. I would gladly stomach these drawbacks If I had the money. Benefits definitely outway drawbacks
I think for Sony to choose Iso 250, they found a way through their testing to minimize the effect of the iso through the global shutter to get the throughout needed without a hit to dynamic range. Remember this is Revolutionary not evolutionary and we won't know until the camera is in people's hands. I think the dynamic range will be better than expected, especially at 24mp. There are people complaining about the noise on their A1s now. I don't think you will be able to drop a lens by hitting the lens release button because you still have to turn the lens after hitting it and if you hit the lens release and don't hear the 120fps, you will quickly figure out that you hit the wrong button. Sony has just dropped a Nuclear Bomb on the camera community and things will never be the same going forward.
Will global shutter on the A9III produce a higher quality still or video image than the A7RV? I'm trying to tell what features might be useful for spending the extra $2000 over the A7RV.
The Next iteration of this tech will be the real jaw dropper. There was always going to be short comings for early adopters to work through. The A1 II is going to be 🔥🔥 probably 2 or 3 years from now 😔 But I'll 100% wait
Thanks. A different take than the all of the best of all time reviews, but too many assumptions IMO like gloves removing a lens by mistakenly hitting the lens release rather than C5. It takes a ton more effort to depress the lens release than a C-button and the lens release is right up against the lens where there is room all around the C-button. Could it happen? Yes. Likely? No.
I have the original A9 and the image quality is great even though it has only 13 stops of dynamic range, the AA filter affects the image quality more than the dynamic range.
@@CharlieVN if you pixel peep the A9 photos vs the A7iii photos (same megapixels) the A7iii looks slightly better, but not because of dynamic range it's because the AA filter is stronger on the A9. To my knowledge it's the only camera in Sony's lineup that has a strong AA filter, hopefully they weakened it on the mark III.
This firmware update of features already available on other cameras for the A1 has been awaiting a year plus for their flagship cameras !!!! This is a hot topic in itself 👈
Regarding C5. You have mentioned a very important point. Actually it is my main complain for the sony FF bodies in general. I've once dismounted the lens from a body by mistake (not fat fingers but gloves in the winter). Luckily my lens has been on the straps so I have ended having lens hanging on my neck and the body in my hand with exposed sensor!
For the past two years, the A1 has been a good camera for me. For the way I use it, it does not appear that the A9iii will benefit me. I'm more curious to see if the firmware that Sony claims will be coming March 2024 (or later) for the A1 will be of any benefit for my usage of the camera. The last firmware update to the A1 was a good one for me.
I could not figure out why the A9ii and A9iii have a base ISO of 250. The closest I have come is a DP Review article that says basically that the A9 is intentionally made to be a sports photography camera, so they are willing to trade dynamic range for shutter speed. There is a trade-off, but one that sports photographers are willing to make. Wedding photographers, probably not so much. The A7rIV will smoke it in dynamic range.
they had the possibility of directly making a 61 megapixel one, but as always we will see the next one with 33 then 61 etc... I stopped at Sony a7riv, every year something comes out, you don't have time to connect moments with what you have that you already have to change equipment
I would take the A1 over the A9iii for the high resolution, especially since they are now virtually the same price. The A9iii is certainly an impressive camera, but mostly with capabilities I don't need. Sony has left a big hole in their lineup in that they now don't have a hi-res stacked sensor below $8300 CDN.
@@georgedavall9449 I mean they’re not gonna only release one product with a global shutter. My guess is an A1 II with 50-52 megapixels and a global shutter
it's a habit I picked up from owning panasonic and sony, the panasonic has those body buttons, but the mount is on the other side, and switching from one camera to the other...... who knows, we'll see in time.
I want to see more "hands on" reviews. That will take a few weeks...and this is also a pre-production model. That said, this is not a do everything well camera. It's specialized for fast action and no distortion. I wouldn't use it for landscape photography. I wouldn't use it for small subjects at a distance that have to be cropped. Ask yourself what you are missing in the photography you are doing. Does this camera provide solutions? It does for me. It may not for you. I want the fastest focus. I want high frame rates. I want high flash sync speeds. Of course, the higher the sync speed, the lower the power of your strobe. There's always trade-offs. High sync speed is still better than HSS.
a9 is able to do 1/32000 with electronic shutter. Just checked: it can do that even with f2.8 lens. It seems strange that a93 with lenses slower than 1.8 can do only 1/16000 ...
Some people must lie awake at night looking for negatives. Many aspects of this camera are a quantum leap, because of the full frame global shutter. Why complain that they could be more? This will be a camera that will open up new ways to produce imagery. There might be some catches, but I bet Sony has thought about them and minimized their impact. I’m going to wait for some scientific testing before I make judgement. It does look very impressive from what I have seen so far though.
Open gate 6k is completely possible and would make this camera a more complete option as opposed to the A1 at 8k. Another knock against this A9iii is Sony's insistence on using the "different to be dumb" approach with those smaller, slower, and more expensive CFX-A cards instead of CFX-B. Look out for over-heating and frame buffer issues, I know it's there.
I have been hesitant on doing anamorphic lens review on this channel, despite a company reaching out, because of the open gate issue. Hoping sony will allow that sooner rather than later.
It's not simply to be dumb, it's to give option for people to run dual SD card or dual CF, instead of being forced to run one cf one sd if you want redundancy.
Then why not use dual type B cards like every other camera system? The new CFX-B standard can hit 4GB per second speeds, which this camera could benefit from greatly. Redundancy was not my point, it was the "card type" being used.@@MuhammadKharismawan
@@MLee-vcrr again, it's for wider range of support, ditching support of SD card entirely is IMO a big detriment of Nikon's approach. While Canon still stay with one CFB one SD. XQD is barely an upgrade over SD card while costing more, I'm wondering why Nikon did that as SD card and xqd are about the same size.
Again, when did I ever state dual SD cards should "Not" be used? Even V90 class SD cards are more expensive and slower than CFX-B of larger sizes. People who can afford a $6,000 camera are not worried about this, which why Nikon could barely keep with demand for the Z9 upon release.@@MuhammadKharismawan
It's time for Sony to enable 3rd party glass to shoot the same fps as the Sony glass. it might've been ok when the A9 shot 20 fps but only 15 fps with 3rd party glass. and it was even ok when the A1 shot 30 fps and 15 with 3rd party glass. but it is not ok to sell a 6000 dollar sports camera that allot of non pros will buy for sports and wildlife. and limit 3rd party glass to 15 fps. Sony needs at least enable 60 fps for 3rd party glass on the A9lll. and in my opinion its time for Sony to just lift the restriction entirely and just enable in all the cameras for 3rd party glass to do everything that the Sony glass does. including enabling focus breathing compensation for 3rd party glass. there are many photographers that moved to Sony because of all the great 3rd party glass options from Sigma, Tamron and Samyang. and it's just time for Sony to open up the full ability for the 3rd party glass. I really don't think it will hurt Sony glass sales by much. because the people who buy the Sony glass especially the people who buy the GM glass are mostly going to keep on buying GM glass. because there is a certain type of a person who thinks they are above other people if their glass is GM. even though allot of the 3rd party glass users are better photographers. and they are not trying to compensate for there limited skill by having the most expensive glass. there are even the people who feel like they look more important with bigger glass on their camera. Canon had the red ring just for those type of people. and now Nikon has named their latest 135 prime the Plena. and that is for the total lens snob who feels like they really got something special when the lens has it's own name. like the Leica shooters. but I do think the Plena lens is an amazingly good lens. but that's not my point. now for all of the lens snob replies lol. common Sony it's time to lift the restrictions on 3rd party glass. and enable all of your cameras so the 3rd party glass does everything that the Sony glass does.
4:03 - I think your "catch" equivalence although correct in EV comparison is irrelavant in practice. The camera which shoots at max 1/8000th/sec is not going to be any faster at higher ISO no matter what - its limit is 1/8000th of a second. One gets the higher shutter speed for its own sake, not for the EV equivalence. 1/80,000th of a second is 10x faster then 1/8000, base ISO or not - it literary is bullet time speed 😉. I thought the first global shutter mirrorless from Sony or Canon would be an APS-C format so this is a good news no matter what price it is at the moment (not for my pockets).
if you’re capturing bullets, then sure, otherwise for even the fastest wildlife, 1/2000 is enough to freeze motion. beyond that, it’s mostly used to darken really bright lenses.
Kinda negative…this is a ground breaking camera. Mainly for action oriented shooting, especially the pre exposure modes. Global shutter is the future, will need to get the ISO down, but none is a deal breaker.
Why would you use 3rd party lenses when spending that much on a camera. 3rd party lenses limit every brand for its peak performance. Native lenses always perform to the cameras full potential. That’s general camera knowledge as to why you don’t buy non native lenses for a high end camera especially
@@CharlieVN all lenses are not made equally… I get cost for people matters but you cannot expect the same performance on a lens or camera at a lower cost with specific features that have requirements that have to be met in order to perform at full capacity
so we lose 2.5 stops of dynamic range, it's still mind blowing for sports given lighting in stadium makes that totally workable. We just need AI to pick the best photos now, since there will be like 50,000 photos from each event.
We have no clue how many stops of DR we will lose. It'll definitely be less than the A7RV / A1 because if it was the same they would have made a big deal about it, however, it could be 1 stop, it could be 2 stops, we have 0 evidence.
Any drop in Image quality will put a lot of people off. Even if the image quality is the same as the mark two, I cannot see myself upgrading as a wedding and event Photographer. I am disappointed by this camera. It's clearly aimed at the sports Photographer only
I think that "image quality" is a very shallow and misleading term to talk about the image that a camera produces. But still, I believe that camera sensors have not improved that much in "image quality". On the other end they improved the shooting experience a lot. Anyways, I think if you want to upgrade your camera for wedding photography your best bet is either an A7R IVa or V. The A9 series has always been made "only" for sports so I don't see it as a bad thing. Edit: I don't think you'll see a serious drop in image quality to be honest, it's a modern flagship sensor, you won't probably notice a real difference if any.
@@tankivulture148 there are many serious wedding photographers, such as myself who love a stacked sensor for silent shooting at both weddings and events. No way would I want to go back. The A7Riv may have more pixels but it’s not an improvement in image quality with the type of work I do. I owned one I sold it pretty quickly. If you don’t think Image quality has improved, I’m guessing you have not been photographing very long. The improvements have slowed but continued. If it’s stalled with this camera and image quality is the same as the A9mkI I would be disappointed.
LOL, disappointed by the most advanced camera on the market today. A camera that has revolutionary technology. I guess the saying is true, you can't make everyone happy.
Sony is a master a hype and hysteria.. that's how they've operated as a consumer electronics company..they just came to intrude into the art of photography and subtlety automating it(removing the soul and art and having technology take over).. there's a reason folks are going back to film.. Sony is gradually destroying the art... The concept of global shutter is NOT NEW. It's been available since the 70s ( leaf shutters have no flash sync limit) plus, the first sensor technology CCD sensors had global shutters... all this hype ( precapture( the z9 had it 2 years ago), Panasonic also had a global shutter they didn't release... Cut all this RU-vid hysteria, ditch the gas temptation and make some art.. That's why "Photography is dead" thanks to Sony and its minions(youtube sony boot leakers).. I am just waiting for sony to create a robot that takes perfect and accurate pictures for us while we recline on our beach chair... photography is dead but picture taking is alive ( Sony, iPhone, pixel....) good job
