Ive had the A55 for a few months now. The Overheating isnt a problem if you turn the Dynamic Stabilization feature to OFF. It doesn't seem to effect my ability to get stabilized photos or video either. I have recorded an entire football game outside with no problems with overheating at all.
@Peacefulhumanbeing the overheating is only an issue if you have stabilization on, so keep that in mind. The A580 is very good, but lacks some of the A55's cool features. So if you care about video go A55 and lots of frames per second go A55, if you want something more traditional go with the A580. Personally I'd go A55. Keep in mind that the A77 shouldn't be too far off so you might want to wait a bit if you want (though might be a few months).
think you did a good Talk About, but you didn`t talk about the Ugly noise it gets recorded when you zoom in and Out during video - when the environment is so quiet. Also, the screen doesn`t feature Self Portrait setup; as a result, you can not see yourself when taking pictures alone. Moreoeve, if you have a tripod , you can not rotate the screen down cause the clip of the tripod is in the way.... good technology inside but a terrible body design. they could have done much better.
@teckireviewer I shot this with a Olympus E-PL2 and the 14-42mm. I'd get the T2i over the A55 but the A55 does have some great technology and takes really impressive video
