@@JopieHaargel I watch RTings reviews by a DCIP3 HDR10+ IPS LCD from a Poco X3 NFC. Though it's not OLED, I can tell, bro, I do see their vibrant colors and how TV is, or isn't, wide gamut color capable🙌
No because they need to keep the "assembly" lines rolling just like cars. And there are PLENTY of TV buyers that are ignorant enough to buy the latest and greatest high collar TVs nearly EVERY year at jacked up prices.
Because they get paid to say good thing about the most expensive sets. This tv comes in at roughly 2500 not cheap the Bravia 7 2200 and they said both these TVs were not worth buying but praised the Bravia 9 which is 4000. If you get the Bravia 8 or 7 you will be impressed.
The remote for the Bravia 8 (RMF-TX820U) is not backlit as stated in this review. EDIT: If you purchase the Costco version, it does come with a backlit remote.
The Bravia 8 is amazing. Purchased a 55' model a few weeks ago and have loved it for gaming and 4k movies. Definitely the best TV I've personally owned and really took time to research before purchasing. If you have a PS5 it's almost a no brainer.
@@trewright1482has no Dolby vision though and it's a Samsung. If it breaks, they won't help you and the techs will cut your screen with a knife to try and avoid a warranty claim
I have the Bravia 8 and I’m blown away by it, I had been in the market for a while, had the LG G3 but this Sony is hands down a clear winner. Whatever we are watching we find ourselves saying Wow, even at the commercials. Now I’m no TV expert but I’m really enjoying my Bravia 8 and I’m pleased with my purchase. Would I buy it again, Yes, Yes! Thanks for your opinion though.
These people have no clue. The Bravia 8 is legit. I have the 77 and the game mode is where it’s at for sure. Brightness is beyond adequate. Only thing I wish they would have included are the other sensors my a90j has.
Reviewers always make such a big deal out of having just two HDMI 2.1 ports when it only matters for people who have a PlayStation 5 AND an Xbox Series X AND a soundbar that doesn’t support HDMI 2.1 passthrough.
It is a big deal for futureproofing, unless you plan on using an AVR or switcher with 2.1 support. It's just a dumb omission for such a premium product. Why WOULDN'T you want a TV at this price to have full flexibility?
HDMI 2.1 is only going to become more important in the years to come. In the coming years there will be more and more devices that support it. Sony charges a premium price, so they should be judged and compared to their competitors who all have 4 HDMI 2.1 ports.
Not saying it isn’t a shortcoming at all. Just saying it’s a little weird to constantly flag it as a problem to people who mostly won’t be impacted by it in any way.
I originally thought this was gonna be a repeat of the A80L and I was impressed with its display honestly. When this goes on sale, it’s a straight upgrade for my x90K. I recognize the C4 is technically better, but I prefer Sony’s processing, and the operating system far above both LG and Samsung.
@@thomaszeh2577 The picture quality of a TV is influenced by several factors, including the processing technology used by the manufacturer. Sony TVs are known for their advanced picture processing technology, which enhances detail, contrast, and color accuracy. This processing helps to create a sharper and more realistic image. LG focuses heavily on perfect blacks and excellent contrast due to OLED technology, which provides a different but equally impressive picture quality. Whether a Sony TV or an LG TV looks better can depend on personal preference and what aspects of picture quality, like sharpness, color accuracy, or contrast you prioritize. BTW I bought the Bravia 8 last Saturday and love it.
Great review but I’m still not sure which TV is right for me. I only watch movies, no game playing and I don’t even watch sports, just movies. I’m thinking this Sony is right for me but if anyone is knowledgeable, let me know what you think. Thanks!
Im probably buying this as the sound and bluetooth range is far superior to the C4 both are important to me. The C4's sound is mediorce plus its quieter than other sets ive looked at. I.know the Bluetooth wont be an issue to many, but i use high end Bluetooth headphones a lot for movies and gaming and their range smd stabikity are really poor. I went into my local dealers to try a variety of tvs out and the Sony was hsnds down superior in this regard. I.just wish the B8 was a little brighter
The win here is the glossy screen. A80j, a80k, and a80l have all been semi-matte at the 55, 65, and 77 inch size. Only the 83" varient of the 80 series have been pure glossy. Its the reason i still preffered LG. A95L and A90j have always been glossy. Their top tier TV has always been glossy but theyve been handicapping the 80 series with that disgusting matte finish. Now the 80 series is worth buying again.
@@sammy10001 do you know the A80K and A80L use the B3 oled screens not the EX display ones that the lg C3 had as why they had that semi gloss look and also weren’t as bright as the lgs
i think i liked it and going to buy. now i have xh8096 and it is bright enough, and bravia 8 is brighter as i see in tests. and it has newer version of Google TV which i like. My TV now outputs much nicer picture then i saw on my friends Samsung and chinese TVs and Bravia 8 outputs even better picture and has even more vividness which is already enough. I don't know what more could I ask. And if it lacks something comparing to competition it's not visible to a naked eye. And in my region it costs a bit cheaper. I'm talking about 55 inch - maybe this is important. So I consider this is solid choice for me. I also have PS5 and no TV SET BOXES, no Rokus and other stuff so i need only 1 HDMI. My sound outputs via optical.
Hows burn in? I have 2017 LG Oled and significant burn in within a couple years. Really downplayed even in reviews. Would never buy another oled until I hear reliable longterm review that this problem has been resolved.
My LG c1 has 17600 hours on it. No burn in yet. 3 to 4 hours a day mostly fifa gaming. 3 to 4 hours a day HDR Movies and Series. SDR brightness between 30 and 40 depending on input.
OLED has improved a lot on the burn in issue. I have had a Sony Oled for 3 years and have no sign of burn in. I watch tv/movies 70% of time and gaming 30%. As long as you aren't watching news channels or channels with a banner for hours on end a day you will be fine.
Someone who owns the S90D. It’s horrible for movies. Motion isn’t good, it can’t handle dark scenes with flashes of light. Image processing is lack luster. Gaming it’s “ok” if you want crushed details leave contrast enhancer on default, if you detail and color and accuracy turn off contrast enhancer and then the Sony is just as bright if not brighter with much better image processing.
My grandma bought an LG Nanocell and it only lasted about 4 years and now randomly shuts itself off. I understand factory defects happen but based on my grandma’s experience I wouldn’t buy LG. I had a 8 year old Vizio that works fine. I just upgraded to Sony X90L about 6 months ago. Hopefully the Sony lasts.
its a known issue with lg oleds. And they are terrible with customer support. I will not be purchasing another oled from them. My sony that sat right beside it is still going strong while im trying to find a new board to see if it will fix the lg.
This TV brightness is similar to the LG B8 from 2018. Honestly it’s a disappointment. I would not consider it as an OLED option at all. You’re better off with mini led or a C4.
As a just a movie watcher i check best buy c4 and bravia 8 . Sony was amazing drew me in . C4 looked good side by side sony picture sold me . Bravia 8 was my purchase. Great review.
If you can tolerate qd oled with qc issues and worse processing then samsung is a good way to go. C3 and c4 and great but game mode colors are crap. And fmm makes things a bit to dark full screen.
@@neptune612 Actually for SONY folks its NOT a good review because this TV is not even as good as A80L and costs $1000 more. B8 was a BAD move for SONY as was the B3 POS.
@@steveludwig4200 I’m curious what makes you say that the Bravia 8 is not as good as the A80L? I’m about to buy the A80L but after researching between the two, I found that while the Bravia 8 is better, it’s not by much and definitely not worth the price difference.
bravia 8 significantly brighter than c4 in game mode and brighter than c4 in SDR. Upscaling also better which constitutes most content. the price is now just a couple hundred more than the c4 it has become the better buy. Google OS also poops on LG's

i personally don't think it has comparison with c4 or s90d.... even the A80l has better picture quality than G4.... maybe overall the other model may be better but in term of picture processing it doesn't even come close....
Sony bravia 8 picture quality are much better than g4 but i didn't like that it get very dark in some scenes... Why does it get very dark, does it had any thing to do with picture setting...?
Yeah I thought the same thing . I don’t even like Dolby Vision. Its so dark, it doesnt let u change sharpness or anything else. Its like 1 Trick Pony recipe cookie cutter.
@@Yoga_Tv_buying most of that is external factors that can be controlled like lights and or bias lighting which can allow the eye to relax and see better contrast without too much eye strain. You can also have presets like Cinema home instead of Cinema. Without that said LG and Sony also allow HDR10 content to be played as well as HDR10+. You can also have an external media player or disc player that can force various options to have a better more personal preference in how the player led mode handles bright or dark elements for Dolby Vision. The difference is you have options vs not supporting it at all.
Because of the lack of DTS support. We have standards for a reason. I spent more than an order of magnitude more on the audio part of my A/V system. After so many Galaxy S phones & watching others' experience with their appliances I'm about done with Samsung.
Way less but they have a contract with the manufacturer of the chip that makes that component that doesn't expire until maybe next year. Do even if there was a chipset out there (there is) that can have all 4 be hdmi2. 1, they won't use it because they technically have already paid for the lower chipset up until 2025 probably for the deal that their chip orders cost less for however many years they made the contract for
Four HDMI 2.1 ports probably coming to SONY higher end TVs in 2025. Existing Pentonic chips are limited to two HDMI 2.1 ports for use with game consoles such as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. The Pentonic 800 (already announced) will support HDMI 2.1a, which supports Quick Media Switching (QMS), although there is no mention specifically about QMS. MediaTek says that the Pentonic 800 SOC "supports up to 4 high-speed video/audio input interfaces" but it is unclear exactly what the company means. IMO it will feature four HDMI 2.1 ports this time, as Sony & a couple other TV manufactures have gotten lots of grief for not having four HDMI 2.1 ports

@@RTINGSdotcom Well I saw a Bravia 8 next to one or two LG from 2024 with the same RU-vid movie clip featuring Will Smith in a sniper scene and the LG tvs not only had totally unnatural colors, they also lacked sharpness, everything looked photoshopped, artificially smoothed, while the Bravia 8 showed natural colors and stellar sharpness. Smith‘s pores were visible on the Bravia 8, on the LGs it looked like makeup, no details visible. Is the AI in Sony tvs just better than that that gets used in LG tvs?
Lg is crap in game mode with its major dull colors, samsung has bad QC issues way oversaturated colors with no dolby vision support and worse processing. I really don’t think the C4 is the clear win for gaming - I actually think most would prefer the Bravia 8. The C4 loses a decent amount of brightness in both SDR and HDR game modes, which means visuals won’t pop/impress as much as they would on the Bravia 8. I know you guys listed this in your comparison slides at the end, but I’m really surprised it wasn’t discussed in the conclusion. There are WAY more people out there with just one of the latest consoles (so HDMI port limitation not an issue) and who are also not going to be remote sensitive to the ever-so-slightly worse input lag. If gaming is not a factor, sure the C4 is better value. But for mixed usage including gaming, I actually think most will enjoy the Bravia 8 more.
Another mehh TV from this years Sony range, I was hoping for good things from the Bravia 7 as no way do i want another Oled But your review has made me think twice. The HDMI and other issues should be resolved in the 2025 models with Mediateks new SoC. I can wait, no sense in wasting money on a below par expensive TV. Thanks for another honest reivew, where would we be without Abby ?
I don't rate ratings reviews. They take the humanity out of picture quality. Go to a store. Get a C4 s90 and Bravia 8 side by side with the same RU-vid video. The Sony will look sharper, have more detail. Have better sound. Have a better os. Have smoother motion. These reviewers base everything on stats as if it's a computer. Picture qualiry is art.
No significant improvement from the A80J, just a design change, I think they should have released a 55" version of the Bravia 9 and not released this OLED that makes no difference to the previous one.
Rtings is not a reliable source for honest reviews. They most definitely have a bias against Sony. Legit reviewers always talk about how Sonys have the most accurate image quality and Rtings routinely shits on Sony.

Lots of reviews on both. I’m in the same boat but add and lg to the mix. I am leaning towards Sony. Had a curved lg oled that got severe burn in and lg wouldn’t replace it under warranty. So I’m not a fan of them anymore. The Samsungs have more reviews with people getting lemons and having software issues early. Sony will probably be my choice. Just gotta decide on 65 or 77
Who watches on a super bright TV? Most people watch at night or in a low light room esp movies. Brightness is not a deal breaker. Oled sony is the best
The gaming stuff cracks me up, nobody notices that input lag unless they are a competitive gamer and they are probably playing on a monitor. I don't even put my tv in game mode and it has input lag in the 80's and I have no problems lol

Exactly, that’s why I passed on this tv this year, not that it’s too expensive but it’s overpriced for what it offers. Sony would be somewhat justified in the price if this was a QD OLED starting at maybe $2000 max and just made it a step down from the A95L, that way it would’ve been a direct competitor to the S90D/ and S95D in some cases, and all LG OLEDs except the G4 would’ve been in trouble too. This model would’ve sold out and that way they could have eventually cut the price on the A95L overtime and still make profit. Sony needs to rethink their sales strategies
Sony Bravia screen flickering in less than 24 months of purchase even connected to stabilizer. Very very un reliable and need to change screen almost costs 30+k , really horrible. No help from Sony simply suggesting screen replacement.
Not going QD-OLED was a fail for sony. Year after year we all tell them their ports are limited. Calibration wise they always pin white balence across all formats on a given hdmi port. This makes it impossible to calibrate more than one format per hdmi port, further lowering its value. I'd just go on a payment plan for the A95L. Because atleast that picture is significantly better. I hated the nod at elden ring but another fair review.
For what it's worth, our reviews are based on objective test results and the units we test are all purchased ourselves. It's important to us that our experience matches that of the average user, so we leave no room for brands to be able to impact the work that we do!
They just say that many here should buy a cheaper alternative for the same or better picture quality (or features). The issue here is the price for the product (2.5k) compared to other products in the same category, not the product itself.
Their points are all legitimate. If you've already made up your mind to buy a Sony OLED, just get last year's flagship while it's available. They praised the heck out of that model for good reason.

Up until a few months ago I sold Sony TVs on the weekends in Best Buy. I can tell you that gaming is a huge focus for TVs now. I was able to sell several 43" X80Ks because they were the most reasonably priced 43" TV that supported VRR. Typically RTings rates the LG C series OLED better than the Sony Peer of the same year. It almost always comes down to price and gaming performance. With that being said, looking at the RTings reviews of the C4 vs the Bravia 8, I would prefer the Sony. Reason being that Sony still does a better job in upscaling. I watch a ton of older content, much of it not remastered to 1080p or 4k. It just looks better on the Sony TV.
