SONY BRAVIA 9 Pulling You From OLED?

The Sony Bravia 9 looks to be a true leap in MiniLED technology with a unique and more elaborate backlight system with a 4000 nit peak brightness. The question is can and will you leave Oled for a MiniLED? Every major TV manufacturers flagship is a Mini Led except for LG with its incredible G4. Let me know what you would do in the comments and thank you for watching.
You can pre-order the Bravia 9 or any other AV products from our good friends at Value Electronics valueelectroni... or you can call them directly at 914 723 3344 and ask for Robert or Wendy and please mention Brian at BRIAN'S TECH THERAPY.

Excellent presentation of all of the top tier 2024 TVs! Very informative and technically correct explanations in an easy to understand discussion with FOMO! We all learned a lot about the new advancements for this model year. It's also thanks to you and FOMO that persuaded us to offer our most aggressive launch promotion for Sony's BRAVIA 9 QD MiniLED TVs, LG's G4 MLA OLED TVs and Samsung QN900D and QN95D. Now through May 26th we're gifting our clients with a 10% store credit. Thank you Brian for posting the link to our website in your description above.

Why is the 900D getting so much attention? Seemed like no one cared about the 900C or any of the 8k TVs last year. Now everyone is talking about it now. 8k is completely unnecessary, streaming 8k would be a nightmare and an 8k disc would be enormous. An average movie is around 65 Gigs, and a longer film like Oppenheimer is around 120 Gigs. An 8k copy of these would be in the 250 Gig range, thats for ONE movie. Film is not 8k is closer to 4kish, so ALL existing movies shot in film or shot in 4K master digital will have to be up-converted. Unless you are about 12 inches away from a 4k 85"TV, you cant see the pixels, most people sit 8 feet plus away from their screens and wouldn't see the pixels on a 1080P TV at that distance. The 8K TV's used to get all the best of everything i.e. processor, brightness, build quality, etc. Now that Sony has released the Bravia 9 which gets brighter then these 8k TV's, the reason to buy an 8k no longer makes sense. A high PPI on a phone makes sense as our viewing distance is so close, usually around 12"'s away, with a high PPI its almost impossible to see the pixels at that distance. Not sure of a situation where 8k is important, other than working for NASA. What am I missing???

@@paulcox2447 The contrast itself doesn't make sense. If you have 2 TVs that can produce X brightness, then TV A is better than TV B if it has more contrast. And if your TV is dark by itself, I don't care what the contrast is, if it can't draw a scene in brightness normally. The mini-LED also has excellent contrast, but at the same time it draws scenes normally I'll just keep quiet about 3d

Even without reviews, I am convinced about the Bravia 9. I watched a comparison video by a French channel that showcased scenes from Dune on the Bravia 9 versus the X95L. The difference was stark, not just a minor incremental change that requires scrutinizing details. The Bravia 9 was significantly brighter, with vastly improved contrast and fuller colors, akin to a QDOLED. It seemed to rival the X95L against a QDOLED. I understand the importance of not getting carried away by the hype, but the difference was indeed substantial. The comparison appeared to be conducted in a dark room, with no blooming, just crystal clear images, solid contrast, and a profound HDR impact. In a dark room, an OLED may offer "perfect contrast," but I don't watch TV in complete darkness. My viewing environment is a dimly lit room with some ambient light behind the TV. In such a setting, the contrast difference would likely be negligible, and without an OLED for direct comparison, the Bravia 9's contrast seems optimal. Furthermore, the price in Canada is quite attractive, even more so than in the US after conversion. I hope this pricing remains since we often end up paying more, but perhaps not this time.

Reviewers are going to confuse you when they start measure the TV using software , and the conclusion will be like , "blooming issue , black not as black as......, this TV not as bright as...... . Micro contrast and resulting 3d effect will still be the difference. Question is how close to that this mini led can get.

I have a 65" LG C2 and I love it... most of the time. Sometimes the "neon" colors can be fatiguing with certain content and sometimes things just don't look "right." Case in point, part 2 of Netflix's "Rebel Moon" looks better on my 75" Sony Z9D in the living room --- more like "film" (think theater), when viewed on the Z9D, than when viewed on the LG C2. Based on my Z9D experience, I would take the Bravia 9 over any OLED. It's basically Sony upping their game again like they did with the Z9D in 2016 but now in 2024.

I think it’s amazing that the 30k plus monitor for the last 7 years has been an LED Backlight based tech and not oled and it still dominates TVs when it’s next to it, oled or led based. Years ago the pro monitor was oled but now it’s LED based and has remained that way still even now moving to 4000 nits.
@Swecan76
@Swecan76 5 месяцев назад
I think the reasons for it is that they can achieve much higher brightness using LCD tech. Also they use Dual-layer so in effect it has the same black levels as an OLED because it's per pixel level dimming. But it does show that LCD technology clearly has room to improve in consumer space.

depends where you are at. Many companies can't afford a 30,000 mastering monitor. LG worked closely with Cal-man so you can get a "pro" quality tuning in much less time than it takes other brands and it's basically all automatic. So you see a mix of LG OLED and Sony reference monitors actually being used.
@lvproductionsinc9748
@lvproductionsinc9748 5 месяцев назад
@@paulcox2447 that’s not the same. Watching on a consumer oled in a studio and comparing to or for reference after you shoot the content and mastered it to see how it looks isn’t the same as creating the content by reference and grading/ mastering it. They use lg to see how the product looks on the consumer level in a studio compared to the reference. Major Hollywood studios are not grading on consumer oled. I understand smaller studios and lower budgets may do this but major hollywood studios and large companies are not using lg oled.

The 85" Bravia 7 is the sweet spot that will last and be pretty amazing until things like data, compression etc catch up! Don't go smaller just to get these TV's with top specs. They won't be used unless ALL you do is watch or play physical copies of movies/games. Completely unwatchable. And to add to it, there's no way to turn it off with 4k content, so i couldn't watch any movie in 4k with this TV. Now this is by no means a judgement on other OLEDs or other brand OLEDs and i know OLED has brightened over the years so I'm sure its not nearly as bad as it used to be. Sony and Samsung are pushing Mini LED on us in the name of the profit that is it. They’re both over invested in it and make more profit on it. They’re throwing out unnecessary high NIT numbers to try to make it sound superior, it’s kind of a joke. OLED is the better tech always has been and has been improving every year the G Series is proof of that along with the A95L last year. Sony and Samsung simply chose not to push 3rd Gen QD to another level this year. Samsung went matte and Sony carried it over. It’s kind of a joke. I have an A80 and A95L too. I give LG credit for trying to keep pushing the limits.

Brightness is just not interesting at all. TVs are already too bright as it is… After spending all day working in front of a monitor, the last thing I want at the end of the day is to get blasted with 4000 nits. LED’s slow pixel response time along with its horrible motion clarity make it a non-starter. It’s great that Sony has provided more granularity in controlling the lighting zones but yea. What we need to fix is motion resolution, motion clarity, etc. We need that crt motion back. 60/120hz leds are complete joke for motion clarity. Finally even in the demos of the Bravia 9 from all the RU-vidrs, you can see blooming, vignetting, etc. Even at the start of this video, you can see off angle colour shift. Until Micro Led comes, led is dead.

It looks like the oled fanbois are in panic mode! Now they want us to sell OLED flaws as LCD flaws - amazing! But you're confusing something! It's the oled tvs that have problems with motion clarity because of their higher pixel response time - it introduces micro stuttering which looks horrible on OLED TVs
@MaxPower-zp7wy
@MaxPower-zp7wy 5 месяцев назад
The same flaw is inherent in LED aswell. You don't get to win that argument easily. There are more flaws in LED than there ever will be in OLED. That's a fact. LED is just re labeled garbage. OLED tech keeps improving with new panel types, new sub pixel structures and new organic phosphors. Printing and panel uniformity has improved leaps and bounds in OLED. Even my old LG E9 has no dse, no horizontal or vertical banding, no vignetting, no halos, blooming. These flaws are more presented in LED because of their limited dimming zones and no ability to control each individual millions of pixels like OLED can. My E9 has no burn in and no OLED gets burn in unless you watch news all day every day which is unnatural and the person is a nut. And your graded 4000 nits will not be available. When it is OLED will have improved luminence by then. Brightness is not everything. The flaws in LED are major ones that matter and can't be solved unlike OLED.

@@MaxPower-zp7wy Another OLED-fanboi who's hyperventilating and in panic mode because of the new Bravia 9... And this despite the fact we haven't seen any real test yet. Your knowledge about oled & LCD TVs seems to be limited because you have no idea that OLED is the tech with the most issues like: NBB, problems with shadow details, green/pink tints, perceived micro stutterring, no pure whites, burn-in (yes it's still there), problems during manufactoring the oled screen itself (vertical stripes caused by the fine metal mask) and so on... Whilst Oled sales are already declining, LCDs are getting better each year and mitigating their only minor issue - blooming! Just wait until micro-LED is affordable for the masses - this will be the time the industry will lay OLED-TVs to rest for good^^

I spent 2 hours in BB comparing the LG G4, new Sony Bravia 9, and other LG OLED tvs.......and my conclusion - LG G4 is the winner. It doesn't matter what the specs all these RU-vidrs are claiming, all I know is what I saw for 2 hours. The new LG A11 processor makes a big difference. That new processor on top of whatever algorithm LG implemented this year really boost the performance. The first thing you notice with the LG G4 is how much brighter, how much more depth there is, and also the clarity of the TV is on the G4. The depth and contrast on the G4 along with better tone mapping makes the G4 have a 3D like quality. I've been an avid TV enthusiast for a very long time, and this is the first time in the past 10 years where I am truly blown away with the picture of any TV. Sony IMHO, they are lazy, over priced, and they just wanna maximize their profits on their TVs. I would recommend to people who hasn't upgraded in the last 5 or 6 years, to buy the LG g4.....it's worth it for sure...... BUT If you're someone that has never owned an LG OLED TV before, then buy the LG G3......because you'll get a great deal on them and you'll absolutely blown away with the amazing picture. Just my 2 cents......thanks for your honesty.

Some of these manufacturers cannot compete with their own OLED technology, others cannot make enough money on their OLEDS. The technology cost more money for everybody, not all consumers can afford an OLED. It does not mean that LEDs are better it just means they are way cheaper and the companies can make more money on it. They will use their marketing to convince you that it is better. I think we are very far away from mini LEDs being able to reproduce the same quality as OLED, if we ever get there. I think this is the point where OLED TVs go the way of plasma and the dinosaurs. To everyone's detriment

Currently, I have an aging Samsung Q90R 65" in my living room. It is greatly outclassed by my LG C3 65" in my entertainment room in all aspects, except for 2 key points. Absolute Brightness and Color Volume. I bring this up because the Q90R is nearly a 5 year old TV, and it can still beat OLED in certain areas. However, you have the BRAVIA 9, which gets significantly brighter, has OLED-like contrast levels, and Sony picture processing... it ticks literally every box. OLED can still be improved a lot using different techniques and different sub pixel layouts and different organic phosphors. It is LED that is flawed beyond any improvement. OLED will go brighter one day. It already has less flaws although still suffers some of what LED suffers by no means anywhere near as bad. LED has nothing going for it except brightness which unfortunately there is a massive lack of 4000nits graded content. This fairytale content won't be available and the Bravia 9 is likely to end up a rare fossil that isn't for the masses. So it's tech that is useless. By the time there is graded content OLED will have likely caught up...
