Back when I bought my CX405 I did this too. I can give you one small piece of advice. Having done this, the "spare battery" will drop out easily when you open the battery cover. You might want to add a very small piece of take to the side of the battery to slow it down when it drops out. That will also reduce the rattling of the spare battery.
I glued a filter step up ring on the front of the camera around the lens so now I can use filters on the front of the camera like a circular polarizer or ND filter
That would be nice to have. I'd like to shoot at if 50 or 60 shutter speed . . . but daylight blows it out. Need an ND 64. Can you share a link here to what you bought?
Buy a variable ND filter so you can rotate it to the density you want. There is a video on Product Reviews TV channel here on youtube pertaining to modifications of the CX405.
That's great as I am looking at checking one out soon to use as a dashcam and we already have a Sony RX100 III which uses the dame size bat and we have two so thanks for posting and how's it holding out today 12 June 24 - Hope you have a great day. Cheers Glemm v from NZ
This is pretty amazing. Finding extra storage in my house is impossible......but in my camera? Wow (Just posted my first video using this camera. I recommend them also. The zoom feature is very gentle and makes a world of difference) tHanks for the video
That’s amazing! I’ve been using a CX405 for years and I had actually noticed the second battery compartment, but wondered why it was permanently blanked off and inaccessible. Very strange design - that space could have been used to accommodate a higher capacity battery, or they could have just made the camera slightly smaller.
The USB cable that tucks into the hand strap, doubles as the DC connection to charge the camera. It can power the camera via DC power BUT it depends on the power output of the adapter it’s plugged into. As an example, my truck has a 3A output USB port. If I connect the camera, I get a message that the camera can only be used in playback mode connected to USB power. If I connect to a battery bank with a 2A output, the camera works fine powered on DC.
Thanks for the video, good info. I am considering getting one of those due to your video. Can this camera use sd cards, or does it take micro sd cards? if it uses micro, do I need an adapter?
Yes, I can do that but I went over all the settings in my review of the camera. Sony CX405 Camcorder Unboxing and Review ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7HjZLmt-pJ4.html
I am mind blown. I originally bought this camera when it came out and it broke last year but, since I like this camera so much, I bought another one and now I have a way of carrying both batteries easily! Thank you!
@@MikesWorld1 I left my CX405 in the car today 😕. Now the screen is all lines. I guess I have to buy another now. I just got another back up battery in the mail today and that's when I realized my rookie mistake
I attempted this method of removing the spacer (unscrew + pop out), and what other channels recommended (do not remove screw + pry at corner), and I found the latter far more straightforward... I simply could not go ahead with the "popping out" without fear of breaking plastic components
Do you know if this camera requires periodic firmware updates? I did not see anything about it online or in the manual. Some goofy things are occurring in the menu: for example, not finding things like factory reset for one. What is demo mode? I saw something briefly mentioned in another tutorial (comment section) but can't find anything about this either.
Be careful, the extra battery kind of rattles around and makes rattle 🐍 while filming. I might glue some sponge to the bottom ends of the batteries, see if it goes away . . .
