Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-HX7V Review, Sample Pictures and Test Video 

Haha still have this and just turned it on and now im watching full videos . Its a nostalgia for me .

@denonandkef I have owned a few Nikon p&s's over the years and I never really cared for them. The samples images I saw from the 8100 and 9100 both look nice--perhaps a bit sharper than the Sony. For video quality though, there's no comparison. The Sony is MUCH better. In good light, I would say the Canon S95 takes better pictures than the HX7V, with more accurate colors, less fringing etc. In low light, I might give the edge to the Sony. Video goes to the Sony--CCD just doesn't compare.

The video is scintillating. Thank you so much bro. I am looking to buy a camera by the end of this month. This is going to be my first ever camera. Right now, I use an iPhone 3GS to take photos. I want the best camera with the best photos. I also want to take videos. Both of them should be best quality. I will mostly be taking pictures of nature, greenery, sky and Me. I also want to take HD videos. Please help me. Right now, i am considering HX7v & S95. Please suggest me the best and any others!

we have the same camera...could you tell me where is a LANGUAGE setting?, i don't know how to use my camera, bcoz it can set a japanese language.

@set2374 Sorry the control wheel wasn't working as in like i would turn it to view the photos, but then i took out the battery and put it back in and it starting working again, but my question is will it continue to do that? like i bought this camera soo it could last me, not to have random technical problems. and as for the playback button i press it and wait and nothing happens and i end up having to press it like up to more then twice lets just say, and the SD card am using is like a 4 gb

so i bought this a month ago & i ♥ the picture and video quality of the camera, i was having technical problems, like the button to view the photos was to slow i needed to press it up to 4-5 times for it to work, so am thought maybe its just my camera and i exchanged it, and so now i been having this camera the new exchange one for about a week now and still the same problem,and now there's a problem with the control wheel, not sure if its just me, but is that how the camera is or just mine?

@set2374 ..I got a video with more than 13.000 views, and the video contains something i've build - a DJ home studio for 8000 dollers in value.. The video is shot with my mobile, i dont speak in it, and the video hit 13.000 views in only one year. - beat that, camera buyer.

This camera records in avchd and mp4. You can definitely use an external charger and the battery life is excellent.

@trykkermike, sorry you didn't like the video, but the nastiness is unnecessary. I checked out you videos and at least I talk and get more than 40 views for my videos.

Photo IQ is comparable. The hx7 is better in low light, the zs10 is shaper. The video quality on the Sony is much better IMO.

and, ehm, and aaah, is eehm, it/it/it/its, aahm - quite annoying listening to you speaking in this video..

hey review and video was nice but i have question that class4 hdhc sandisk memory card is enough for 720p video recording without lag in video or do i need more than class4 card for video recording because in India there was only class 4 cards are available please reply me

Does this camera only record in AVCHD or does it also have an 30fps option with a different file format such as .MOV .AVI or (hopefully not .mp4)? I dont mind AVCHD but prefer .MOV for editing.

I'm considering to buy this camera for hd video and for long exposure photography. Is it good for filming or should i get the hx9v?

You shouldn't pull out the SD cared with the camera on.

I love my HX7V, I've used it to film several employee videos at my company for showing internally, and the HD video quality is great. I also brought it with me to China and took some great pictures there :)

@sayhestinky You haven't described the issue with the control wheel, so I can't comment on that one. With respect to the playback button to view photos, there can be a few issues here. First, every time you hit the button you are restarting the processing cycle. Hit it once and let it do its thing. It will take a couple of seconds to kick in. If it takes longer than 5 seconds, it may be your SDHC card. If you're using a large card (larger than 8gb) and it's slower than class (tbc)

Nice Video. I've been out of digital photography for at least 10 years. I'm finally looking to buy a couple used cameras off of ebay. I'm going to try and get a DSC-HX9V. It seems like a great point-and-shoot camera.

@JiMmOo0 The HX7v and HX9v are pretty much the same camera. Here are the differences: (1) 7v has 10x zoom, 9v has 16x zoom; (2) 9v has 1920x1080p at 60fps and 7v tops out at 1920 x1080i at 60fps; (3) 9v has slightly better autofocus mechanism, but both are excellent so it's not a big difference; (4) 9v has pop up flash (not a fan) and better location of the microphone; (5) 9v has more manual controls; and (6) 9v is $75.00 more. Are those difference worth a extra $75.00. If not, get the 7v.

@denonandkef I never owned the HX5V, so my comparison is based on sample pictures and video that I downloaded (RU-vid is good for a general idea of video quality, but there is degradation--it's best to download). I think the IQ is comparable between the HX5 and HX7--some pictures will look better on one than the other and vice versa. I don't really think that the 16.2mp on the HX7 necessarily improves IQ--although I think lower light images look better. cont...

@sayhestinky: ... slower than class 10, it will take a while for the camera to organize all of the files. You may want to get a faster card (Sandisk Extreme works well for me). You really need a card with read/write speeds in excess of 15mbps to take full advantage of this camera.

is it okay if i use other Sony external battery charger for its battery?

@dreamstwice, I have been told that before because it could cause read errors to the card. For purposes of the review, that wasn't an issue since I had nothing on the card and would just reformat it. That said, I have removed the card more than a fair share of times with the camera on and never had an issue. Don't try this at home kids. :)

Is the hdmi point micro 2.0 b or a?

Did you record your sample video in 720p Mp4 or 1080i AVCHD? I understand RU-vid doesn't accept AVCHD files for upload? If you that's true, did you convert the video first? If you did, what program did you use? and with what result, quality-wise? Thank you.

@ajishvv The S95 is a great camera and takes beautiful stills. It only shoots 720p video at 30fps though and not great quality at that. If you're for a travel zoom style camera, I would probably also check out the Panasonic ZS10 and the Sony HX9V (very similar to the HX7, but with a longer zoom lens and slightly faster autofocus). Canon also has the SX230HS, which is a very nice camera as well. Of these choice, I would go with the Sony HX7 or 9, than the Panny or Cannon.

IMO, the only difference between sony cyber shot hx7 and hx9 is the zoom capability of the two. other than that all others are of in the same footing..

Thanks, helpful review in making my mind up. compared to the fuji f500exr, seems to focus much better when zooming in video. i also very much like the speed it operates at. will definitely be auditioning this one.

At this point, you may be better off going for the HX9V. Costco has it for 260.00. I am using the HX9V at this point and think it's worth the extra few buck. Quality is actually noticeably better--particularly with stills, but video also. I have sample footage posted, so check it out.

actually the hx20 is pretty awesome and its on sale now for for $300, does anyone know if the sony cybershot hx9v uses a sd card?

THANK YOU for your review that included video and still photos. I have seriously been considering this camera and it's nice to see what it can actually do. Your review has helped me decide this is the camera for me. I am a novice camera user, so this will be a treat for me.
