The good old Sony AX700 camcorder is still good and can deliver good picture quality. This recording was made with the PP1, the standard setting of Sony. (Gamma: Standard/ Color: Standard) No post-processing, no color grade. Why? The colors look real, about the way I saw it with my bare eyes. The camcorder is very good for its money, just a zoom tele lens (27-230 mm) like the one in the camera, would now cost more than the whole camera! And the built-in ND filters are very good and useful. I wonder why they are so out of fashion. Almost everyone believes that he can make better recordings, short films, with a hybrid camera. I also have a Sony A7C but it's not really better (only in dim light). The AX700 is actually a real "film camera" because it has inherited some of the pro Sony's FX9, 6 and is meant for "video -film" making! Many useful professional functions refer to that!

Thank you for the post. I enjoyed the summer Vienna landscape. I'm using AX700, too and loving the natural color and contrast it produces.

Great quality, true to life colours. I still prefer the handling of a camcorder over a mirrorless.

Thank you for the compliment! Your videos are beautiful and also quite natural. I also have the Sony A7C but use the camcorder more often. I have tried many things, Log + Luts, Phantom etc. but when I compare the end result, they are only slightly better than the standard settings of the Sony AX700 camcorder. (Sometimes not even better...) Why should I go through so much work when I can do without it, just use the standard picture profile. The content of the video is more important than the appearance.

The stabilization on zoom shot seemed very natural. The mechanical gimbal performs very well. But not TOO well . . . so the result is footage that seems more genuine than newer-equipment digital stabilization.

Great Video. Thanks. Really shows the real-world features of the AX700. @0:59 I see the same 4k low FPS pan flickering issue that plagues these low FPS Camcorders. @2:17 shows the pan speed you have to use to get quality frames.

@musikreisen7 11 месяцев назад
Hi. I'm glad you liked it. So the problem with the low FPS etc. is complex. On the one hand, you want 24/25 fps because of natural motion blur, on the other hand, the processors in the cameras are overwhelmed at this frame rate, or do not have enough computing power to read lines from top to bottom, from right to left on the sensor. (read out). And the sensors are getting bigger! No matter which camera you take, I have also the Sony a7sIII, which is twice as expensive as the Sony AX700 and still has this problem. You can also watch professional films on Netflix, etc., and when you pan, the straight lines are flickering and dissolved. We'll have to live with this problem for a long time, as long as the processors get better.

@@musikreisen7 Have you tried setting the shutter speed to double the video fps? 48/50. It seems to lessen the juddering on my AX53. It is clearly amplified by the intensity of the image, which points to the codec used, as the hardware is different Sensor size on AX53 vs AX700.

@@gertsy2000 I'm happy to answer. ( I'm "Janosklotz" ist ident = with "Musikreisen7") So the 50FPS setting doesn't work with the 4K XAVCS/100Mbs codec. A maximum of 25FPS is possible. I want the highest data rate per second and 4K (UHD) XAVCS codec so that the picture quality is the best. Therefore, as I have already written, I have to accept the disadvantage of flickering. If you have the AX53 then the difference is the sensor size: the AX53 has a smaller sensor 1/2.5 than the AX700 (1 inch, as larger area). The AX700 is clearly better than the AX53. Has ND filters (very important in practice, when there is a lot of sunlight) and more adjustment options, which are important. Eg. the black gamma level (which is almost always set too high by Sony, I. set the BL level +4 what ist less BL Level as 0). and the "details" for digital enhancement (which is also too high! I set it to -3 ) etc. It currently costs 1400 euros here in Europe. Great value for money! Maybe you'll sell it the AX53 and add an AX700. I bought 2 pieces because I'm doing multicam recordings in the theater. Greetings from Vienna. How did you manage to make it so stable? I have active steadyshot and it's still very shaky; I have to use Warp Stabilizer on Premiere Pro to make it look smooth.
@janosklotz9509
@janosklotz9509 9 месяцев назад
Hello! Thanks for your interest. So the stability comes from the way I stand. I watched some YT videos on how to make handheld videos without a gimbal. There are lots of good tips. The most important thing is a firm, stable stand, the feet or the torso are the basis for a wobble-free position of the camera. The hands must be very close to the body, almost close but held elastically. Practice again! When you get home, try to hold a full cup of water in your hand and then walk calmly, not spilling any drops of water. This is the only way to achieve a stable handheld recording with the help of the Steady Shot Active setting. @@janosklotz9509 Thank you so much for your tips last time on how to achieve stability. I tried to use the techniques you suggested. Now I am even able to record myself walking with Sony AX700, although I have to admit that I still need to train myself doing the ninja walks 😅

What is the frame rate used for filming this 4K video test: 30fps or 60fps?

@@janosklotz9509 I see, thanks! Is it possible to film 4k at 30fps or 60fps with this camcorder?
@janosklotz9509
@janosklotz9509 11 месяцев назад
Hello! So yes and no.... With 60 fps you can record in slow motion mode, but then the data rate drops from 100 Mbs to 60 Mbs. That means in 4K mode with 100MBs data rate you can record a maximum of 25FPS. That's the "price" or downside to pay for the now very affordable price of the AX700. Here in Europe it now costs 1400 euros. Very good value for money. My personal opinion; the 25 FPS are 98% sufficient in practice. There are thousands of good videos and films that have good content, are interesting and don't have 30 or 60 FPS because these videos have good content. And that's what we want to see too, videos that are interesting in terms of content! Only a small circle, like us, talk shop here about different frame rates or high frame rates that are rarely really needed. I have two Sony AX 700 and I also do multicam recordings in theatres. The 25 FPS are completely sufficient there. At 25 FPS I just try to pan slower so that there is as little flickering as possible. Even expensive professional cameras have flickering when panning, see some Netflix films, etc.

@@janosklotz9509 Thank you for taking the time to respond to my question despite your busy schedule! I appreciate it very much. The reason I asked is because I actually noticed slight flickering in this video, which made me want to know the fps. Since I'm quite picky and a perfectionist lol, I'm sure the majority of viewers won't care or bother about the fps as long as the video has a crisp 4K resolution! And as you said, content is what really matters :) I currently own a DSLR that can only shoot in 1080p. I'm trying to upgrade to a camera that can shoot in 4K. I love how camcorders can zoom in and shoot news b-roll style footage, and that's what I'm going for. But I also have a strong interest in recent DSLR cameras that can shoot crisp cinematic 4K shots in 60fps. So that's where I'm struggling to decide, lol. It's too bad that not a lot of new camcorders are being released anymore!
@janosklotz9509
@janosklotz9509 11 месяцев назад
@@BreakifyTV Ok I'm happy to answer. I get you, it's really a pity that Sony doesn't release new camcorders.... But the AX700 is really great although not perfect. Again to FPS in general; In every film school/course, etc., you learn to use 24 FPS when filming at the beginning, because that was a standard in the analog film era in cinemas. Here in Europe it's now 25 fps, which is very close to 24. Why use that low framerate at all? Because only such a natural motion blur is visible, which is desired in film! That's why you can also see flickering in the pan when filming professionally, because they deliberately use a 24 FPS frame rate. This is a must, a standard in the film and TV world. (Although there is flickering when panning.) Recently, some movies have been tried to be shown at 60 FPS, and the audience didn't like that because such a movie looks like a PC game or a video and not like a movie. We want to see films and not videos...! At least those videos that look like they were movies. This can be achieved in 3 ways; 1, you use the 24/25) FPS 2. You reduce the proportion of brightness within the recording (in other words, less contrast), i.e. you use a cine gamma or a log gamma. 3. You reduce the image sharpness (details), which is almost always set too much at the Sony factory. So you reduce them. ( I set -3 on my Sony Ax700. ) So take your time and decide whether, based on these facts, 30 or 60 FPS is really that important to you. If you now buy a e.g. Sony A7c camera (for 2000 euros) the problem is the same because it has a larger full frame sensor. But a larger area needs more computing power to read the sensor data from top right to bottom left. Read dour speed. So I also have the A7c and imagine the problem that flickering ist the same! Even a bit worse because at the moment there is hardly a processor that can read the data faster and does not get too hot! So at the moment we have to live with what we have.
