I just want the 12-24 F2.8 GM II, the quality of the current one is fine, just that it's big for today's Sony lens standard

As with Nikon and the quality glass they produced in years gone by, Sony are stepping forward as they would and should be expected. With progression of any type one needs starting point. Once that datum point is set one can measure any progress accordingly. Playing in the Fuji range myself I look on with interest. Be lucky stay safe.

Love the idea and the versatility of the 16-35 2.8, but can’t help but be drawn to the 14mm gm. The 17mm sigma at f4 seems a little over priced and not fast enough for a prime. I have the 24 and 40m2.8 g on the A7cr and love them, so compact and light. But I do miss the wider angles at times. A 14 or 16 2.8 like the 24 and 40 would be awesome. As someone that has played with the 14 and the 15-35 ii what would you choose and what ended up in your bag.

It’s 12-24 2.8 GM not 14-24 2.8 as you said. And I do agree that the wider angles are very difficult to shoot and require careful composition and leveling. But the results are spectacular. It’s primarily an ultra wide to wide zoom. The 16-35 2.8 GM II is smaller and can function as a street lens because of the 28-35 focal lengths. Do you feel that this lens is necessary if one has the 20MM 1.8G, 24mm 1.4 GM and the 35mm 1.4 GM?

Thanks for the correction. No, it is not necessary if one has those primes unless the question is about size and weight; it would make more sense, I think, to add the Sony 14 prime were the need to go wider than 20 compelling.
