I got this lens as soon as it came out and it immediately became my favourite lens. I use my 300 GM virtually every day including whenever I travel. It really is as near as possible the perfect wildlife lens
Sure doesn't match up well with the A1 on the latest firmware (2.02). Such a disappointment that I am constantly having to remove the batteries to reset the camera with this lens. Keeps losing focus but that's all on Sony. This lens when it is working; is phenomenal.
The Sony 300mm 2.8 GM is an amazing good Lens ! I was very close to buy it with 1.4x and 2x teleconverters, but then the excellent Sigma 500mm 5.6 DG DN OS Sports 024 was announced and that 500mm is what I bought and can highly recommend, very compact, very Light Weight, excellent sharpness, very easy to handle and use, very easy to carry for hours in your hands when hiking in the Nature ! With the 500mm, I do not need teleconverters, yes I do not have aperture 2.8, but I have a longer reach and for less than half the price ! Sony really need to make more long prime Lenses that are compact and Light weight without the price tag as a car. And this is to you Sony, why do you not have 1.4x and 2x teleconverters that fit the Sony 135mm 1.8 GM, that will be really nice ! And one more for Sony, where are your APSC Camera with 40 megapixels !!!?
