Lumix also didn’t have mirrorless full frame cameras and good auto focus before so I suppose they chose to put as much as possible in their micro four thirds cameras. Coding these things is not exactly easy. When you didn’t have them in the processors to begin with.
@@AlpacoFilms I don’t think that’s a solid comparison, Lumix holds the record for first ever mirrorless camera, Panasonic has always offered more features than any other brand in its mirrorless lineup you can carry out a research to confirm this, their price is also unmatched, they offer more for less. Autofocus isn’t a deal breaker for professional cinematographers except those making RU-vid videos and while autofocus is a good, I mostly use manual focus so it’s always about the need of the user.
@@itsGAMiE I agree with you. I was a Panasonic user and I’m currently still an Olympus user. Without those two, we wouldn’t have anything like what we have today. But, features like DCI 24p didn’t matter for a long time for average consumers using these products. Most of the people buying budget cameras aren’t shooting for production narratives. Most are shooting solo content. Don’t get me wrong. Personally I’d always choose a Panasonic for narratives. The have the tools installed I need. Heck I’m grabbing a GH for that reason for a feature I’m hired to shoot. But for my regular jobs, shooting social media content as a one person shooter, AF is tool that prefer having. Especially for my old eyes. I definitely respect your perspective. I’m a very big supporter of Lumix and Olympus. If the L-Mount lenses could get more budget lens manufacturers like Rokinon or Tamron on board I think they be a monster in the camera world!
@@AlpacoFilms Very true, I totally agree with you on this. You are right, it depends on the kind of content one creates with the camera. You make a very valid point here, “most of the people buying budget camera aren’t shooting for production narratives”
Good to see updates, but where are shutter angles? How can you seriously sell a cinema oriented camera without shutter angles? That is a big oversight in my opinion. Even the Lumix S5 has shutter angles and it's not a cinema camera😀Like you also mentioned, open gate would be great and it is quickly becoming standard in competing products.
Nice video. But i think after the update, i can't change the Aperture in the menu, just on the lens or when i switch to A on the lens. Sorry but i'm a newbie... Thanks for help
It might have defaulted back to one of the wheels on the front or back of the camera. Give them a shot and make sure you're not in shutter priority by accident (possibly)
the DCI is fake. It odes not extend your pixels to the side...it takes away pixels from the top and bottom and then resizes it to DCI resolution. I showed this on my channel to see for yourself. Sony playing games with us...
Interesting. When I drop it into a timeline and hit auto, it comes up at 4096 x 2160? I'll take another look, thanks for the heads up. Are you talking about the FX3? The FX30 has easily enough pixels.
@@GeekyNerdyTechy fx30. so does the fx30 considering its really a 6k sensor. put the camera on a tripod and record 5 seconds of UHD, then record 5 seconds in DCI...all its doing is chopping off the top and bottom and saying its "4096 x 2160". Im sure its legitimately that resolution given the camera is already downscaled from 6k, but its such a weird way to do it...its literally "fake" DCI
@@ryanphillips5403 I removed it after speaking to Sony myself. What they do is kinda smart...but stupid at the same time because the customer is left clueless as to why this happens. Both the Sony FX6, FX3, and FX30 give you a full sensor readout in a 16:9 aspect ratio edge to edge ALREADY. So how do they implement "DCI" which is really an "aspect ratio" when you already have edge to edge on the sensor? They literally chop the top and bottoms off to bring into that aspect ratio. I even tested to see if this was true not just with my camera but other friends cameras too by putting them in photo mode and going to a 3:4 and its literally edge to edge. What gets lost in translation alot with the FX30 is its really a 6k sensor that just downscales to 4k as your final output file. They do this to give you all the cool features like active stabilization, clear image zoom, etc. If you were to have features like that on 4k sensors and still output a 4k image...then its not really 4k when its cropping, youre losing pixels. So Sony decided this was the direction to go. Give more features and flexibility to do neat things, but in the end the final image is always a true 4k image. No matter what. This is all to give you "headroom" in pixels to do cooler things in camera. Where RAW gets weird especially on the FX30 is the only reason out of all the cameras in the FX cinema line, it crops? Is because its not a 4K sensor like the rest...its 6k. So the Atomos Ninja V when it claims 4.7k...its truly 4.7k OF THAT 6k sensor. So you are getting a 4.7k image truly in its raw output. Thats where I left off with Sony but I kept wondering if its an APSC sensor? Why not give us 6k RAW then? My guess is its locked out to do so that way FX3 users and FX6 or even FX9 users dont bitch and complain the 1800 dollar small cinema camera is doing more than the higher end cinema cameras. The camera is more than capable of recording 6K RAW to the Ninja V, but like I said im guessing they locked it to 4.7k just do customers dont bitch. My only complaint now at this point is the new DCI 4K 24P mode doesnt work in RAW (which I shoot in alot) I contacted Atomos to see if this was something knew about and they had no idea. So Sony gave us this update and totally left making those new features to work in RAW aswell. Again, probably because it will be weird because it wont actually be 4k DCI, it probably would be 6k DCI since its RAW and a full sensor read out in 16:9. After having this conversation with Sony, I stopped giving my camera shit and started to realize EXACTLY whats going on and I honestly cant complain if thats their approach and it made total sense.
This is a fantastic firmware update for the FX30, and especially for the Sony FX3 which was lagging behind. I shot this video using DCI-4K in true 24p. Let me know what you think of this update and you can download the firmware using the links in the description. Fingers crossed for the Sony A7SIII.
I have the FX30, and these updates are fantastic. Not only 4K DCI and shooting in true 24fps, but now being able to set the shutter speed to 1/48 means we get what we were missing without having shutter angle settings. Although, we do lose gyro information apparently when shooting in the desqueeze anamorphic mode. Not sure why that is. You can still stabilize in post, so its one minor inconvenience. But, overall a very welcome set of updates.
why A7SIII will get cinema line updates, A7SIII will live like adopted child life, who was once brought into the family with so much love and care but later after having their own kid they start thinking about the adopted one rarely
I am only guessing at the end, but it feels like the cinema line has now separated itself from the other cameras. It's a huge kick in the groin for a7SIII owners if they never push a new update through even with focus breathing compensation.
@@GeekyNerdyTechy Back in September when i decided to buy A7SIII, i was bit confused which one to buy, both camera were same except EVF and extra dials, the way i decided was i never use EVF but i use dials all the time, but i knew that at some point sony will definitely do something different with FX3 otherwise it will be very hard to convince people why they buy fx3, so i convinced myself that ill use mode button instead of dials, it was very hard in the beginning specially when my other camera is A7IV, but i adopted it and I’m very happy to have FX3, i guess i see future 😂
I shot some DCI by accident the other day when messing around with my Fuji XE4. I liked the aspect and mused to myself "I'd like this in my FX3 and 30". I guess Takumi read my mind. Can't wait to load it up.
i just got my fx30 new from b&h and it has this version installed. i have dci but no true 24fps? can anyone explain this to me? ive hunted all thru the camera for it?
*The Creator's App is Nice & I tried it out last night and although a Pain to get started once ya get it done it's pretty sweet. I love the Cloud upload*
DCI 4K on the FX3/FX6 has a slight crop at 5% (due to the need for a 1:1 sensor readout), I wonder if the FX30 still manages to do an oversample with its 4K DCI mode?
@@marinrealestatephotography yes, open gate would make the fx30 very valuable. I dint buy any camera without open gate. Its the future. S52 is the way to go for me
Nice update but they never make the lenses update. Tamron 20mm2.8 and 35mm 2.8 don’t have autofocus I’m trying to bring this to Sony. Hope someone can bring this over.
I feel u there. Man Sony just shot them selves in the foot. How are they going to add big features and they know everybody’s gonna complain about it. And then re-add the features. I hope they do it at six months and not wait 8 months or 12 months
Price to performance wise for most situations, yes. The benefit of the FX3 is low light performance and less rolling shutter. At least now, the updates seem to make it more balanced as the FX3 isn't lagging behind. if you are mostly in a studio or outside, the FX30 does a great job.
@@Tugela60 of course you can... but we are talking about a cinema line, not just a consumer camera. But again, that's not my problem, I'm not a sony fanboy.🤣🤣
@@jdc2126 to ne honest, I use sony cameras for some projects. The only thing that I dont like is the greenish skin tone, maybe its a good camera for Alien movies. But i dong think sony will ever solve the poor skin tones, or add shutter angle for a crippled cinema camera
@@leocasati It is called a "cinema camera" for marketing purposes, but it is a video camera for advanced amateurs, a good proportion of who have delusions of grandeur and think they are something they are not. 99.9+% of the people who buy this camera will have nothing to do with making a cinema production in their entire lives, everything they shoot will be for video.
If it takes longer than 6 minutes and the light is blinking fast 5 or 6 times after a slow blinking speed, then you need to apply the earlier firmware upgrade first. The same thing happened to me, I missed an update as well. Just turn it off and pull the battery out, it won't brick. It means the update has failed. The firmware page shows the blinking light info and what it means.
