Its been frustrating not being able to find what should be a common and straight forward tutorial on how to do this! ARGH... Anyway. YOU are the one who did it. Many many thanks. Many thanks for your excellent video. I just managed to change the flat cable of my Sony DCR-SR290E following your instructions (with minor modifications). I only cost me 3.75 euros for the new flat cable and a couple of hours.
Thanks buddy...replaced the flatcable and display backlight workes again! Only comment i have is in STEP 15, i removed other side of the flatcable (camera side), this seems easier when putting the same cover back on again. Anyway thanks for the video, a real lifesaver for me !
This video worked great to fix a Sony DCR-SR82 camcorder. Nice job on the detailed steps. The only issue was figuring out where the second small cable (with the switch on the end) needed to go in the hinge. It fell out as soon as I opened the hinge cover. I must have got it right since it seems everything is working again.
THANK YOU! I just repaired my Sony Handycam DCR-SR62. All components and screws are placed exactly the same way. Just a tip, I used a paper clip bent to a U-shape as a guide to aligning the holes on the new cable as I stick them together. My other problem with this camera is the power / toggle switch acting very sensitive turning the camera on and off with the slightest touch. I'm still looking for info on how to repair/replace the switch. Please point me to the right the direction if you know.
Thanks for the help! I got my camera working. I was concerned after removing the original cable and not seeing any damage, but the new one worked like a champ. I did have a little issue with my screen position switch, it fell out as soon as I opened the hinge and I had a hard time getting the positioning just right.. Seriously, is this the best Sony could come up with?

+Alex Antão Thank you, Angelo. Today I'm very happy. Took my camcorder to work and opened it again. Pushed the cables as hard (don't know if this is the right word) as I could to lock the tabs. hey i have a sony dcr sr300 an i'm having a lil trouble setting back up the lcd screen cable...couple you just tell me step by step how to feed the cable through the hinge?? would really appreciate it
I didn't really notate the exact way the cable routed through the hinge when I carried out the repair. I know its a little late, but take photos as you unwind the cable and work in reverse when refitting it.

Liuz, if your screen does not work with the new cable, check all the cable connectors again. Push the cable in as hard as it will go then lower the locking tab. Check every single cable connector that you disturbed.
just pulled out my old cable and can see exactly where it broke. Put the new one in, but screen is still black. I suppose I'll go through the steps again. the small cable on step 16 I couldn't get to fit back in the hinge casing... so I fit it somewhere else, would that matter?
it shouldn't matter too much. check all the cable clips/locking tabs again. make sure the cable is pushed in tight before you lock down the holder. this happened to me and I went through all the clips and on power up, it worked. good luck
Wow, that is a lot of steps! But I'm thinking I may try to tackle it. We've got two DCR-SR200 cameras with screen problems. Both cameras function but the screen on one is totally gray and on the other, you can see the image but everything is tinted a dark blue. Does it sound like it is likely the flex cable causing both of these problems? I located several flex cables on ebay that say they are for the SR200E model. Ours do not have the E at the end. Do you know what the E signifies and if ours would take the same part number for the cable?
I would replace the flex cables. I can not find the difference between the DCR-SR200 and the DCR-SR200E except when I googled them separately, the DCR-SR200E sent me to the Australian Sony site whereas the DCR-SR200 sent me to the Sony Asia site. Both cameras look the same and the specs are the same. May have something to do with the market they were sold in. Good luck with the cable change!
MrTechtuber Thanks for replying back. Since I wrote the first message, I called a phone number I found for Sony. The person I spoke with wasn't overly knowledgeable, but from something they looked up, they thought the E at the end signified the European version. They didn't know what the differences were though. Any guess as to whether or not there would be anything different with the inner electronics between the two, since home power outlets are different in Europe? Maybe that would require some differences in the configuration of the battery and/or charger? Maybe all that is different is the plug on the charger power cord? Any reason why you might expect the flex cable would need to be different for US vs Europe power reasons? Are you from Europe, US, or elsewhere? Are household outlets in Asia different than US or Europe? Also by the way, since my earlier message, the camera that had the blue tinted screen has now gone completely to a gray screen with no image at all, so it is just like our other camera. So it appears the blue tinted issue may be a sign that the flex cable has begun to break before it completely goes.
One other question I had is, do you know if these replacement cables are made any better than the originals, or is this something that will likely end up needing replaced again several years down the road?
frogsforall I wouldn't really know if they are any better however I've had the one replacement cable fitted for over 2 years and still going strong. I'd say that by its design it will eventually fail again. It would depend on your usage of the screen.
MrTechtuber I replaced the flex cable in one of my cameras a couple weeks ago. However, afterwards, I had issues with it. At first it had problems powering on. When I would turn the power knob, the power light would come on for a second and then go out. I left it on the charger for a couple days to make sure the battery was charged and even swapped batteries with my other identical camera, but still the same thing. I hadn't messed with it since then until this morning. After sitting on the charger for a couple weeks, it now surprisingly seems to power on ok. But still no image on the screen. I tried taking a "blind" picture and the flash went off so it seems like it took the picture. But I couldn't get it to do it again. It may be taking the picture but the flash isn't flashing. Another thing I've noticed is when I flip the zoom button from side to side, sometimes the camera lens moves in and out appropriately and other times it doesn't. I'm hoping there is just a loose connection somewhere, so I'm planning on taking it all apart again to see if I find anything. Any suggestions on what I might want to look closely for?
