Sony HX100V Amazing Zoom Demo

Yes - I sure do. The only thing missing is a remote jack for external control. Other than that, a great camera. I would buy it again for sure.

@VipulThe : Nikon P500 is a great camera. It's cheaper than the Sony and has a longer optical zoom. I opted for the Sony for the faster shutter speed (1/4000 vs 1/2000) longer exposure time (30s vs 8s) and superior image stabilization technology. Both are fine choices. In the end it just depends on your needs. Thanks for the comment.

Yes and no. I had a flimsy tripod on my desk, but one of the legs was broken and the pan/tilt thing was all out of whack. I've since replaced that sorry device, but it's all I had when I made this clip. You can hear me struggling with the tilt control toward the end - it makes a loud noise. Anyway, the camera has good stabilization software onboard, but any time you zoom in that far you are much better off with a tripod. Thanks for watching my video.

Also - note that I shot this all through a very dirty, double-pane, mirror tint office window. Pretty good compensation for all of that interference.

The FZ150 is indeed a fine camera - and one I considered. But - the Sony has a longer optical zoom (30x vs 24x) and costs a bit less. For my needs, it was a little better fit.

Yes - some of the automated settings cut the zoom off at the optical limit of 30x. Superior Auto, for example, is one of these. For the video here, I used the "SCN" function and selected Landscape.

Terrible (and broken) tripod that day. No wireless remote - the one thing that camera really needs. Still a good value for my money. I'm really happy with it.

@Saki666Dark ya exactly.. sony is producing lesser noise.. n canon's 5x extrazoom is of no use as it starts producing heavy purple fringing also its gets hazy.. sony is sharp throughout.. i also chckd smaple image on websites that check camera very seriously themselves n gives similar images shot by diffrnt camera in diffrnt situatn.. in all sony was way better thn canon.. strange bt true n i love it.. buying hx100v in december.. am also trying to find out wats the nxt cam in hx series

I've checked tons of videos from 'the big three' (Panasonic FZ 150, Canon SX40Hs, and this one, the Sony HS 100V), in small screen, full screen, from 360p to 720 (1080 is 'staggered', similiar to 15 fps in all of them), and regarded each only up till the full optical range (digital being, well, you know, 'digital' and shaky near full, especially without a tripod), and came to the conclusion that (video wise), they're all about equal. However, the Panasonic and Sony are more versatile overall.

hey! To all people who are goin to buy this cam, i bought it within few days after its official launch. what do u people look for while buying a cam? a zoom or clarity! thats the most important decision u should make while buying this cam. Zoom as u see in this video is the best! but clarity wise, this is the worst in the prosumer series. Image may look fantastic in your cam lcd screen, but view it in big screen. i bet u will be disappointed. Just my opinion ! All the best! :)

3000+ feet according to Google maps. The wide angle lens may make you think it's even farther, but if you pay attention at about the 30 second mark you will see I annotate the actual distance. No tricks. You can check this yourself easy enough with Google maps. I am taking the video from 800 S. Gay St., Knoxville, TN 37929. Get the satellite shot and you can easily find that house.
