Thank you AV Forums and Steve for this video. I purchased the 55” version of this TV and used your settings as a base to work from, changing a few settings to suit my personal preferences. Your video was a big help.
I have the 75" version of this tv and it is phenomenal. I highly recommend this set! Do not turn off extended dynamic range off though or smooth gradation off....that is crazy because those are the options you paid for. They make the picture brighter and more smooth!
Marc Robertson these are very good settings for a very tame baseline meaning it will look good without and extra noise or processing. I would use these as a baseline and play with black adjust , extended dynamic range and smooth gradiation and I would always have local dimming at max.
I find the smooth gradation is excellent when viewing older or low resolution content. If watching 720p or 1080p or 4k, I like to turn it off as it's not really needed. Yeah it's funny that they would turn off X-tended Dynamic Range. I tried watching with it off and the picture is dark and washed out.
A number of us with XE900s are noticing significant issues with frame drops and frame repeats on 50Hz (and 59.94Hz) native content. Watching shows like Strictly Come Dancing, or Sports coverage, you see lots of micro-stutter frame pair repeats after many camera shot changes, which are particularly obvious on moving shots or shots with movement in them. (Even with Motion Flow disabled). Only way to get rid of them is to enter Game Mode.,, Sony are now apparently aware of the issue - but there's no indication of a fix timescale. I've been offered a full refund by Sony (NOT my retailer) after getting to the top of the Customer support chain, but would quite like the TV to be fixed. Surprised none of the reviews of the TV noticed it. Wonder if it was introduced by a more recent firmware update?
Ok people Timestamps. (SDR) Night time Viewing 1.01 (Cinema Pro) Daytime Viewing 4.00 (Cinema Home) Gaming 5.15 (Game Mode) (HDR) Cinema Pro 6.40 Game Mode 7.55
I bought the 55 inch model and so far only using sdr content. When I start to watch hdr content and change the settings, what do I do when using sdr content? I mean you changed settings in the same presets to fit hdr, but if I then watch sdr content do I have to change the settings back? Great vid! Helped me alot.
PS4 Pro GasMonkey_NL the game automatically prompts you if you want HDR on or off. Then you can toggle the settings from there under HDR mode for the TV. Not all games support this option, so definitely look for one that has the support and make those changes. Not entirely sure if you can adjust those settings until an HDR signal is present.
Question for you: I like these settings but the UHD/HDR settings that go into Standard look awesome at night when the room is dark but seem lacking in punch in daytime. What tweaks would address this?
Hello i like to ask you something sir. How do you know these picture under the game mode with HDR are the best settings? It sure is looking good but i like to see more an explanation why u cant use this because of this.... Do you know what i mean? Like its so simpel for evryone to show something what is best but not explained. Thank you.
Does anyone else have a problem with missing settings? Personally, my X900E seems to not have Auto Local Dimming and X-Tended Dynamic range available. (It's not even greyed out, the settings itself are not present)
I'm buying the 55 inch version of this TV. would these settings be a good base for the 55 inch too? I'm coming to Sony from a Samsung so I'm not used to the way the picture menu works on the Sony anybody got any tips?
I have the x900e. They seem good but there's some settings like local dimming and extended dynamic range that can be worked on instead of being off completely.
How much of a difference (if any) does the image source make when calibrating a TV? Let's say I have a laptop, game console and a blu-ray player, all connected by HDMI to the same TV and all possible settings which might affect the image turned off. Do I need to calibrate each source separately, or just calibrate one and then copy the settings? I would think they all send the exact same digital signal for the TV to take care of, but on the other hand you can't trust device manufacturers to not include some kind of shenanigans to "improve" image quality.
Jak Daxter it will switch when using HDR it will bring the brightness(backlight) to max and extended dynamic range to max. It will also show the HDR banner in the menu when it's enabled.
If you have a HDR source such as a PS4 Pro which you want to watch both HDR and SDR content. Is there a way to switch those settings or would you have to manually reset them when going between content. I assume the PS4 Pro will always output HDR (when set to do so) so if you wanted to watch 1080p standard video I am a bit confused how you would set the TV up?
The same for non HDR content is use diffrent settings now on Cinema Pro with eveything but still i get some lag, so tou need 2 game settings non hdr and hdr
I just got my set. Try HLG for SDR content. It was designed for it. When I try HDR10 on Windows, it overblows the colors, saturation and White Balance. HLG doesn't, and is the only setting that improves the contrast and White balance. Try it on a picture with clouds, or a lot of White and Black tones to see what I mean.
Hi one question my previous TV was Philips and You guys did calibration on this model was very helpful and work well wit my device , now I bought mode XE9005 but 49” Is the settings on picture calibration on 49” will be simular to 65” ? Thank You
