I have been using megadap adapter with Z8 + Sigma lenses and Sony G series. Works flawlessly . I’m shocked with the quality and turned my a7 iv into my B cam. Thanks for bringing this to people’s eyes. Keep it up.
Thank you. When I had my huge Z9 I tried this adapter to utilize my Sony G/GM/GM II lens collection and everything worked great but decided the camera body was too big and there was no Z8 or Z6III. Now a year plus later I’m considering the Z8 again and may sell one of my two A1 bodies. to buy it. Will look at again now. Great update. Really like the Nikon Nikkor Z 24-120mm f/4 S so may also rebuy that native lens and use Sony for everything else. Take care.
If I'm not mistaken, the Nikon Z mount is the only mount that can take Sony E mount lenses, with an adapter of course, because it is the only camera mount with a flange distance shorter than Sony's.
Solid content and information. It is most definitely a GANE-CHANGER. The size of Sony lenses as well selection make it a great option even if you are a native Nikon mirrorless shooter. 2 caveats: (My personal experience) - Lens corrections don’t apply the same as native z lenses - if you leave the adapter connected with lens it will drain your battery when camera is turned off There maybe a work around with turning off IBIS or a firmware update. However all of those did not help my situation. Not did my second copy work any different. There are pros and cons to everything. At the end of the day still a great product.
Great video! The Nikon Z-Mount is just very versatile for adapting lenses. This is also great if you want to rent a lens from other systems for your Nikon (without the need to purchase it).
Wow!!! I'm intrigued. I have a good collection of lenses for E mount. Been liking what Nikon has been putting out. *24mm 1.4 GM *35mm 1.4 GM *50mm 1.2 GM *16-35mm 2.8 GM II *24-70mm 2.8 GM II *70-200mm 2.8 GM II
I´m shooting on Nikon for years now and always was jealously looking over to Sony users. You got more lenses, cheaper lenses and you often get them earlier (Tamron 28-75 G2 for eyample). For my personal use, the Megdadap adapter will save me a lot of money. On the Nikon Z we only get the Tamron 35-150, but not the Samyang. Taking the Megadap AND the Samyang 35-150 is cheaper than the Tamron for Nikon Z, so they will save me quite a few bucks and this will be my entrance to the Sony world of lenses. Big thanks to Megadap.
@@danieldavis6316 that’s because mirrors-less cameras themselves are relatively new. The Nikon Z6 came out in 2018 and by 2019 Tech-Art had released an adapter that could allow you to mount Sony lenses on a Nikon. I would know as I was one of the first people to make a video about it 👌🏾
Used tamron 20-40mm Sony mount on Z8 for the photos in day light .. even forgot I were using Sony lens but it was sunny bright day In some low light conditions tried zeiss 55mm were a bit slower but still workable So I’d say if you just switch to Nikon and have Sony lenses you definitely can work but still with the time better to get native lenses Haven’t tried for video And interesting if camera applies lens correction in video
I needed this, been thinking about switching to Nikon for photo but I still prefer Sony for video and haven't because I don't want to start over. Nice to know there's a good-working adapter! Nikon Z9 here I come!
I'm puzzled, how in the world this adapter works so well ? I'm seriously considering adding a new camera to my kit and the Z8 or Z6III seem amazing already but with this adapter working with all my Sony lenses, it makes even more sense to get one of these cameras
It's just a fancy step up ring to make up for the differences in mount sizes - z is biggest - plus electronics placement to allow the camera to communicate w lens. The close focus benefit is a reflection of that huge mount and small flange distance :) These cameras focus right onto the sensor, and the z system in particular uses IBIS where the sensor floats on magnets, so it can just compensate for small differences in AF between systems. We don't really Fine AF adjust anymore, for example. Sweet Video B, from another Brandon
Brandon, I’ve been hearing bits of details about this adapter. But this inquiry of yours is by gar the most thorough and practical. Well done! I’m half way in the Nikon universe. If i could consider Sony and Sigma-for-Sony FF lenses, it opens up so many possibilities. Like, imagine some of the newer compact Sigma primes on the Nikon ZF…very exciting.
It’s not only amazing because it allows you to use Sony’s more complete lens line up, but it also allows you to use all the third party lenses that have been created for Sony E mount for many years now! Tamron 35-150 is $100 more expensive for Nikon users! 🤷♂️
The Megadap ETZ is now it it's 3rd (ETZ21 Pro) iteration, it's not camera based, it's mount based, these adapters work on all Z mount cameras. There will be some quirks with some lens, might be the motors or the difference in how each camera system communicates with the lens. It would have been nice if the OSS system would work seamlessly on Nikon cameras however, they do not. One thing to keep in mind, you will need to ensure you keep the firmware updated and communicate with Megadap support team on issue you encounter. I have had good experience with them responding and sending them examples of issues that were later resolved in an updated firmware release. I have posted a couple of videos on my experience with the ETZ21 adapter, you will most likely pickup a couple of Z mount lens as they work as intended however, the adapter makes for a more cost effective way to get into the Nikon system, coming from Sony.
Hoping to try the 35-150 on nikon. Adapting sony lenses will be great because i can own all sony lenses and if sony is needed for a project i can rent all sonys using the same lenses.
Using ETZ21Pro with Tamron 17-70 F2.8 on Nikon Z50 as a permanent walkaround lens. Performance? Better than FTZ II with F-mount lenses. Only flaw I see is battery drain - I can take about 10% less shots with Tamron VR lenses compared to native Z-mount 16-50 kit. Probably it's because of Tamron lens size. And yes - this adapter perfectly works with many E-mount lenses, even with Samyang AF.
I bought the Sony Zeiss 55mm and megadap adapter to use on my z7ll with great results, I doubt the adapter will work on my z8 without firmware update and the updates can be finicky with the megadap in my experience.
For what I’ve heard the only flaw is that there aren’t any in camera lens corrections, and Sony designed the lenses with that in mind. Did you find any issues just as focus breathing or exposure changes when zooming?
Which also begs the question: Would they manage to squeeze in an internal ND for the Z-mount? If not, that could add some complications to RED cameras as they migrate from RF to Z.
Hi I'm a Sony user and want to try the Z8. However, most of my Sony lenses are Tamron and Sigma. A few queries: Will it work as well for third-party Sony lenses? How about the frame rate? Any issues if shooting at 20fps? or 30fps? does the AF and AE work? or does it even shoot at that frame rate?
Love our 2 z8’s! We just switched over from sony A1 and A7RV. Main reason for switching was for the super telephoto lenses like the 600mm pf and 800mm pf. I think the Z8 autofocus is just as good if not better than the sony.
This is great for consumers and is long overdue, but manufacturers should have agreed on a world standard mount decades ago. Imagine we had to match sony cd player to sony amplifier and speakers and if we wanted sony + marantz + sonus faber we had to buy adapters. A nightmare.
right now looking to probably switch from sony to nikon but keep my sony lenses as Nikon lenses no joke are way to over priced but also when Im out at say a back up shoot with someone any they need a second shooter I can either use sony lens or if they have nikon use nikon lens on a nikon body.
The adapter works great in video, but VERY POOR in Photo! So be careful, against a moving subject its c-af is ATROCIOUS (Maybe 1 or 2 images out of 10 in focus with someone slowly walking towards camera!)
This is great. Now I can turn my Nikon into a Sony camera. Yeah. With another adapter I can turn my Sony into a Leica. It's the lens more than the body. The body is just there to house the sensor.
Because there are a lot of Sony shooters who would like to try Nikon but have already invested in Sony lenses. This video is for them to see if it’s possible to make the change.
I am perfectly able using AF with my Zf, Z9, no hassles. There are a few different modes and knowing which to use when certainly makes life easy. Whilst it is not as easy to use as Canon’s, for example, it is very much useable, and certainly far ftom crap ;) ‘A poor tradesman will always blame his tools’
@@bsc001 if only you understood my comment and not tried to just be the best nikon fanboy ever.... zf, z8, z9 is NOT what people use...people use z50, z6, z6ii, z7.... not all people are rich to buy so expensive cameras.... so in the mirrorless world of people Nikon has BAD autofocus, in your world that you buy the latest and greatest its perfect.... now tell me again about the poor tradesman
@@sardanapalos All good Mate, you will be ok. Buy/use the best you can afford, and make great photos. I am at my happiest with my Zf, using a simple old 60mm macro AF-D lens, with only MF. Horses for courses. Of one wants to make art, one can. Good AF is not the most important thing creating art. Anyway, enjoy whatever you prefer to shoot with.
@@bsc001 some people here are not for art if you watch this channel for art i m really curious what you create watching a video about sony lenses on nikon bodies :D , its about their business and how to give the best result to the client ... a conference is not art but it requires good and reliable af and as i said in my original comment, its funny to call the nikon mirrorless as like they have great af...because they don't, when i go photo walks i use old lenses but when i work i use the best the job needs ... no idea why people dont understand the difference in that...this channel talks 90% for jobs thats why i watch it, but now nikon parked the money truck so....and i am ok i will not be ...thanks for the concern mate
