I DO listen to FM for local news and my local classical which is WYPR from Baltimore and Ocean City(mine). When it arrives I'll be testing that right away. A quality DSP chip works well here and from what you say, the rest should be awesome! Nice review!
Good review. And those cassette screen savers are great. I tried Tidal, Apple and Amazon (as well as Spotify) on my android and iOS devices. With my kit, Tidal then Apple then Amazon then Spotify a long way behind. Downloading hires is better for listening, especially for complex pieces of music compared to streaming. I'm so tempted by this. I've got a good range of wired IEMs (Sennheiser, Timeless, Truthear...). My phone has a 3.5mm headphone socket, sd card slot and ess sabre dac but has had its last android and security updates. Using this player means I can get a smaller memory capacity phone, and use my wired headphones (as well as wireless). Most likely that will be an iPhone. It would be great if Sony added phone functionality to this and upped the processor and battery.
I had to open up the Developer Option to enable better volume for my newly bought Bang and Olufsen Beoplay ex earbuds. Has anyone else found this to be the case? Mines an unrestricted model from abroad. When you do an update does it change your settings such as volume? Had the 105 Japanese version, this is definitely an upgrade 👏👏👏
I know I can't use this device the way I want to with bluetooth on home speakers mainly due to bluetooth's limitations. LDAC is great but I just got some Google Nest speakers so I could use Chromecast with this device to avoid the buffering problems (not the A306 issue but more bandwidth, etc) PowerAmp is great on this device as is PocketCasts and (my new favorite) Plex. :) This thing is great to cast videos from it to your TV also or for playing video on the go. But for video podcasts casting, it's great.
Best app to use on android is USB audio player pro. Android actively down samples audio. Some manufacturers like Sony bypass that android limitation. Apple doesn’t have this limitation.
Yeah but Google Services is the best part for some of us. I think with the update, it's faster to boot the first time and not so much after it. Just start it up, do something else for a minute, and set power off to be 3 hours or so.
@@LaurenGlenn i found a guide and kept playstore etc but turned a shedload of stuff off, cloud printing, maps etc and it's running so fast now, esp if i boot without my sd card in it. It's usable in just a few seconds.
I have the Japanese version and when turned on the volume reverts to what it was on before it was turned off. Sounds like yours has the volume cap on it.
Cap or no cap it makes sense for the volume to start at whatever volume it was powered off at. Sony if you read this please UPDATE volume to start at last volume level.
@@TUXXREVIEWS Could be that they are concerned that if someone else powers up the player and their hearing is delicate, the volume it was previously set at could cause that person's ears damage? It's wrong that they are telling the buyer what they think is an acceptable level.
I dont feel boot time is an issue really what matters most is the responsiveness when your operating it. I went with the soundcore Q45 headphones and it sounds great with custom eq abilities on the soundcore app. And I dont enjoy music as much with a cord as with blutooth bt seems to make it louder and theres more processing it seems that make the sound come alive sure maybe a cord sends rhe music as it was recorded but that doesnt put that extra pop that rattles my noodle.
With Sony Xperia 1 V on 3.5 mm cord connection it sounds very similar to the Tidal on the NA-A306. You do get a little more sound processing on the NW-A306 but volume limited too. It's a trade off, about equal. The right headphones may make a difference in judging that

This old man needs your help Tuxx. I am not tech savvy but I need to ask someone this question. I am using my 6th generation 80 GB iPod for all of my music of which I have about 15 GB of data used, all in music.. I have all of my CD's and purchased music from Apple music on this device. It is about to shit the bed you might say. I work Internationally and in remote areas and live to listen to my music each day. About 9 hours/day. My question is this: I f I were to buy the Walkman you are reviewing, will I be able to use it the same way that I use my old iPod??? When I connect to the Apple music store, will it all work the same? I have no idea about these things but I do not want to buy this product only to find out that it will not work the same. I can easily buy the extra storage and am not concerned about a short lapse of time while scanning through items. Not a problem for me. My main question again is will this device work with my music like my old iPod? Any advice some young tech savvy people can offer would be appreciated!!!!! Thanks - Love your channel.
Thanks for the kind words. Ok so I've had a number of iPod from gen 2 and up and the biggest difference I notice is no wheel. Now thing have changed allot in recent years and now there is many streaming services you can use if that's your thing, I have videos on two of my favorite's Tidal and Amazon Music but having your own music files is best .... Now with that said my Original IPOD Purchased and ripped music files from that time and really lower quality than what's the high end in 2023.... And that high end is a difference you really can hear and may get spoiled by like me. So I've been replacing all my music files with better MUCH better HD audio files. Some higher end FLAC and some large DSF files. You may not care enough to start over and make a new better music file collection but thats what many do. Its like would you be satisfied with VHS after BLU rays? As far as using the hardware the SONY NW-A306 is very easy to use and has well thought out controls and many options not in IPOD or other music players. Only you know if you will be happy but if I was to bet I would say you will be. If you dont want to spend $350ish on the SOny NW-A306 other DAPS I review like Surfans F20 may work for you.
Hallo. Sorry for the silly question. Is it possible to download the music from streaming services like spotify or youtube in the device or it can only been used as a streaming device? Cannot find anywhere this answer :(
Yes. Format the micro SD card as removable storage and the services should see the external storage like it would on a phone. It's basically just like a small screen phone except you can't use Android Auto or ethernet on it.
Greetings Tuxx. Thanks for this Q&A Session. Unless I missed some info regarding the A306's spec sheet, I'm hoping to hear your responses to these: • How much microSD storage capacity does it accept? No lag and file recognition issues using a 512GB microSD? • Does the A306 support GAPLESS playback where it plays albums that doesn't have gaps in-between tracks? • How does it sort and arrange the tracks? Similar to that of iTunes (Artist > Albums > Songs)? Does Sony supply an app for organizing one's music collection? • Is it compatible with MacOSX and does it recognize ExFat formatted files? Because you're using Windows to manage files. Unfortunately, I don't have any windows OS operated laptop or PC with me. Thank you so much!!!
Just wanted to remind you that this is android device and you can install any audio player in the world, including the one you are using now. Gapless playback, track sorting and so on are the properties of a specific player
Mr @@casatest . Thank you for your response. I thought Sony has its own music player app that organizes everything and with Gapless playback feature. For the gapless playback feature, I'm certain there are some but an app similar to iTunes that wouldn't require me to organize the files myself by typing in the artist, album, genre, etc., I don't know any. Maybe you can suggest an app or two that has both features?
Can you delete the google play store in settings? I did this back in the day with my Fiio m11 and the speedboost was big, much faster now. I uss apk pure, it doesnt slow down the player 😉, great video.
Its at a basic level just an andriod o/s so if its possible on a andriod device then yes. I wouldnt suggest it for the average user as having access to the google play store is a powerful tool that puts this unit above players of the past.
