The company I worked for bought three of these the year they came out. I used them for about ten years. Great cameras, though the one thing I never figured out if there was a workaround for is that they tend to skew blacks as a warm black/brown colour. We shot a lot of corporate videos - multi camera interviews, live events, and training videos.
For some reason I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the image quality the EX1 and EX3 produces. I can't explain it but there is something in the picture quality, depth, coloring or somtehing that really catches my eye. It gives that 80's cinematic look to the video that I really love. I've owned 4 EX3's, and one EX1 and I currently have the fourth as of writing this. The biggest problem I've had is that I keep "losing" the standard profiles the camera is eqipped with. If you don't save the profile file to a memory card or to a PC then the profiles will be deleted when you upgrade the firmware. I currently don't have the standard profiles for the camera and I have tried to contact SONY repair shops but they can't help me since they only fix hardware problems. Does anyone reading my comment HAVE the orinal profiles, or know where I can get them?
Hello I am trying to buy a lens hood for this camera,, but wherever I find it,, they are very expensive,,, can you tell me where I can obtain it very cheap?
Great Video and hello from England, I am a huge fan of these now older cams, I have a few Ex broadcast cams, I have a EX-1 coming this week too, Some say mobile phones can do more and I disagree as these pro machines you get quality footage due to quality glass lenses, more features and a lot more control of the exposure, I have seen an EX-3 going for £800.00 GBP with only 200 hours like new condition, I use Final cut pro X with apple and I love it, been playing with cine cams for 35 years.
Im looking forward to buy this because it my dream camcorder since 2011. Dont really it didnt shoot 4k too because my work still in 1080p format too and if my client want a 4k i just simply upscale it as one of my local videographer friend still use this as wedding event camera and he upscale it with few rendering tweak and turn out awesome. Thank You for tor this review in 2023 and i will try get by this year since in my local used online shop it cost like 4000 to 5000 malaysian ringgit.
I recently picked one of these up on Ebay for $350. I bought a battery and two SxS SD card adapters and it works great. Way more settings to work with than a consumer camera.
It has several outputs: Component, S-Video, Firewire, and SDI. You could use it with a decent SDI-USB capture box (Blackmagic would be good) for streaming, or the analog outputs with a cheaper capture device.
I found that Fujinon lens in a garage sale for 50 bucks. The PMW-EX3 body was broken. But would I be able to place that lens on a Canon XL1? If so, any advice on how?
@@MrFox619 I don't really know, in one day I record consecutive 1-hour speeches. 1 hour, 10 min break... 1 hour, 10 min break... never had a problem. and if you want low quality in full HD, it has the best quality in low weight video.
