Just found out the difference btwn. the PS-Q7 and PS-Q3 is that this is direct drive and the other belt drive. At first I thought they both were belt drive bc you and others said you replaced the belt. So in 2 days, I’m getter no educated about this TT I want but don’t need. I even bought the last OEM tone arm lock from eBay for like $12. and I don’t even own this yet. Lol! Hey, they usually don’t come with one and just want to be ready. These TT are very expensive now and going for btwn. $400. to $700. in the UK. If you don’t mind me asking, how much you got yours for last year? I think they’re another very cool Sony vintage TT or maybe Techhics that just popped into my head.
Wow and just rediscovered this Sony turntable while watching a yt video of the Rok Blok and forgot about. Now I need to get one bc it’s the coolest and I have a cool Sony linear turntable that comes out of the unit and goes back in. Yup, Sony used to be very cool, well, I think many of the Japanese electronic companies were cool in the 70’s and 80’s and love that period for electronics. Actually I started looking for the Audio Technica “Sound Burger” portable turntable a few days ago and another gadget I was as a teen in the early 80’s. Luckily it’s been reissued and now easy to get and looks like the original unit but updated with Bluetooth. Around 99-2000 there was a 12” album cover that had a turntable on the cover that only covered a quarter of the record that was a UK release. Not sure if it was the same unit and they took out the Sony logo for copyright issues but I think it was silver and they may have altered or a earlier model The Brit’s and the Japanese I find been collecting since the mid 90’s bc I get a lot of ppl. in the US bored when I talk about vintage Japanese electronics. I love this period of Japanese electronic and as a teen lived it but couldn’t afford. Anyway, thanks for the video and let me find one on eBay and I hope the prices have not gone way up or the interest. Oh and I remember those Sony Mini stereos like the one you got and they were incredible machines and my friend had one.
Love that you have matched up with a 80’s mini stereo and those were very cool with the matching speakers. Oh and I love how it has buttons in front to operate the record player vs being manual.
Also, how much did you pay bc I’m looking on eBay and most are like $400. and the seller are from Japan. Also. Would this play with the top not closed bc there is one going for less and not working and missing the top? So it did come in silver also and there another model I think the q3 and maybe a less expensive late 80’s model. I want one so bad, I’m even thinking of buying the tone lock clip bc the one I’m looking at is missing and only one US seller selling one. Lol! Yup, I can get very obsessive with the things I want. Lol!
It kind of sucks that there’s nothing to hold the tone arm to move the tracks. Looks like it’s made for straight play. When I had a technics compact 80’s linear turntable, their turntable a button that lifted the tone arm and another button that slide the arm across to move to other songs. Does this do that also?
Sony has another model that plays vertically. Not sure the model number, but I think called the Flamingo and they had 2 models. Yeah, the needle playing vertically would not be driven by the groove and has to be weightless while the needle and arm is on the record .
