Great video as usual enjoy the content you put out. I know with alot of the old ps1 sometimes just can be easier to try get a cheap laser from China or some people just replace it all together for optical drive emulator thats been becoming more common just not in the ps1 but alot of older consoles.
Thanks for watching. You are right... if you can do your own work... replacing the laser is easy. The issue is... If I do that in my shop, it's $50 to $60 depending on the current price of the laser. A working PSOne is $40 at the local used game store.
Any recommendations on where I could get a reliable replacement drive from? Tried cleaning mine using the steps in your video to no avail. It would read intermittently, but now the drive spins slightly seizes tries to spin again, and just repeats that without ever loading. Could this also be a power/cap issue leading to the disc drive circuit?
