sorry but the DCC is far from the DAT system, might call it digital but the diference is like the cassette to a reel (home use tape), the DAT sounded incredible but price wise was not praticall for home recording, but i bought the first es sony deck. You refer the V-2000 philips video tape ,i received one when buying a stereo tv from philips it seemed from the future compared to VHS ,but professionally tv stations only changed from Beta when entering in the digital age wich was not so long ago ,i don´t even want to know ,how VHS won the standart VCR type. about quality even a cassette deck with average quality when recorded from a good cd player was above cd sound ,didn´t need to be a top end model just average, even today the cd with the best possible player and a very expensive DAC(who i think is stealing from people) can not reproduce the sound of any record recorded in analogue till the end of the 90´s normally rock music of any type, for no reason almost no artist recorded in digital taking the sting´s summoner´s tales or similar(not sure of the name), believe it or not i never saw this titles in DAT(pre-recorded), funny the sticker ,please use button to close, i would writte touch it and you´ll die

never saw those compressed slots, apart i would like to say that the cd developed in the 70´s could have been substituted for a more quality format what makes a lot of people in this world still listen to vinyl(not this new turntables with a horrible sound and cartridges payed like if it were made doble their weight in gold, the DAT is from the 80´s and why not?it´s not comparable with the poor cd sound as digital ,some would say to record in analog because analog was fully developed and digital would sound poor ,in the cd-r case the optical conection on the first pioneer recorders was equal to the cd ,but only 3 copies but you get another cd and 3 copies more, but two was enough, one for you and might make a copy to a friend, people discuss digital as if the compact disc is the only digital source but some is making a lot of money by still using the cd format ,even in dvd´s or Blue-ray´s. To end ,in 1990 i bought a doble live album from a band called dream syndicate that i really like maybe 5 songs and it had already the cd version but the cost at the time was doble the record and had a few more songs, i was like ,how can this be the best recorded live record i ever had and i have many ,the sound is simple two six string guitars ,a bass ,voice and drums it sounded like i was in the room who was tiny, the raji´s ,in the back cover it said directelly recorded into DAT, i have to say that cds till the 90´s were made of a diferent more expensive material, the reason why the price came down in the 90´s, but later or almost 20 years later i bought an excelent copy of this album in compact disc ,it sounded so horrible that i never played it again but the original recording was made in a DAT recorder, i think one can see the diference is the format being so old and low quality ,i have a lot of cds but i also have what some say it´s the best cd player in the world, it was ofered ,today is still sold by 36.000€ a CEC belt driven cd player ,when i saw the price i couldn´t believe mine was free in the 90´s ,what to say ,i don´t know analog/digital, i use the best of both as i have a studio at home since 1970 improved along the years almost nothing there was what it was assembled in 1970, like a reel tascam 4-track recorder i´m using in my home system

Not only that, when PCM on video tapes and later DAT came out dcc was not even in the scene, it took few years later for Philips to develop the format. DAT was not a new creation, it stemmed from the PCM digital recording on uMatic videotapes, then Beta and VHS videotapes for small studio and home recording, The idea was to create a unique recording system that directly record digital on tape instead of black and white video stripes that represent 0's and 1's on those videotapes.
