In this video I will restore an old recording device. It was thrown away as scrap with a tape inside. I tried plugging it in but it doesn't work...
Produced in the 1960s, Sony TC 222 was a half-track AC/DC mono recorder with two speeds ( 3¾ and 1 ips) and a 5″ reel capacity.
Features included hide-away handle, VU meter, servo-controlled motor for accurate tape speed, monitor speaker and a PA facility (this would probably only be useful in small bathrooms)!

Thank you for your work! Here's one useful hint: after mechanical cleaning, it is convenient to cover corroded metal parts with a broken anti-corrosion coating with an alcohol solution of tannin. It eliminates traces of corrosion (if any) and forms a protective coating which is good enough for enclosed relatively dry spaces. After the solution has dried, it is enough to remove the dry residue, rinsing is not required. In this way, the durability of the refurbished metal chassis of this tape recorder can be improved... Nice work. You are now one of my favourite restoration channels because of the unusual items you restore, There's only so many times i can get excited about someone restoring yet another axe or coffee grinder.

Wow .really nice work. Little tip :maybe replace the rubber bands ,as with time they loose their bounce and wont work properly

I would have replaced the counter belt and I know the alignment wasn't that hard to do! They can be sometimes. You did a great job!

Fantastic! I have two of these in my collection, one I bought used over 40 years ago that still works perfectly today and another that I will repair soon (after I restore my Sony TC-800B). It’s funny, all of the TC-222 recorders that I’ve come across have a silver front trim plate (including the one in the instruction manual) whereas yours has a blue trim plate. Is it possible that a protective film is still covering it after all these years? Seems unlikely I suppose. Excellent video, liked & subscribed!
