Dad had a QUADRAPHONIC 8 track player in his ~1979 Marquis Station Wagon. Only tape I remember in that mode was Chicago Greatest Hits. Only 2 "programs" instead of 4.

excellent as always. not sure wow and flutter is an issue on a 8-track player. on a cheap cassette deck or cheap turntable yes but on an 8-track player the size and weight of the flywheel is such that if the belt is newish or new the constancy is high and i listen to a lot of 8-track and do not find it to be a factor. Split trax; occasional crosstalk / bleedthrough between trax YES that can be a factor of annoyance but W&F not so much .... again the weight of the flywheel so much more than a cassette player This medium is much maligned online usually by folks who do not use it or are way too young to remember PS Love your repairs done in real time with no accelerated bits; what's the rush 🙂🙃😉

The front panel looks like it's a car unit mounted in a stereo component case. Strange design decision.

I have one of these, and it needs a new belt but I can't find one for a 238, would a 228 work with it?

Probable most complex inside 8 Track I have seen. 1977, When 8 Track ruled the World, I was there and owned way too many thanks to Columbia House. Too much music on a single piece of tape. Impressive little blow torch, usually with heat you still have to pry that brass pulley off. Old grease is usually dark brown.

Hi Trevor, I have a Harman Kardon 730 and I’m not receiving any FM radio stations. The a.m. stations are coming in fine, they are registering on the meter, everything is functioning as it should. The FM however, doesn’t show any signals on the meter. Although I can hear white noise through the speakers I haven’t tried hooking up in auxiliary antenna but the originalantenna appears to be fine. Any idea?

They don't explain why when I was playing around with motor like that. Emitted a muffled bang when overvolted

I only use 401B these days. You are mad using the blow torch.🤪

I was never a fan of 8 tracks with the janky mechanisms and really sloppy tolerances which meant the heads that needed accuracy to work effectively just never lined up with the tape very well ! There were so many design compromises made to make them easy to use that the mechanisms were sloppy and this lead to people getting quite physical with them which made them even worse ! The audio quality was extremely poor and I could never understand why people took them seriously ! I was glad when they became obsolete and most people just binned their clunky old tired players and bought cassette decks, which were only marginally better but at least their playback speeds were consistent.

Reported for rooster jokes on that tape LOL Another change all capacitor video No way is that unit going to give you 20 to 20k frequency response during recording or even playback I would soak that rotor and back assembly in improper alcohol first

I think we need the return of 8-track decks as much as we need the return of Donald Trump to the White House...
