Hello your video is great. I have a question. I have a lg tv Oled 4k 3d hdr from the end to 2016 is not Dolby Vision but it's hdr. With this blu ray player will I be able to watch content in dolby vision?
as you went through settings i did not see dolby atmos enabled in your audio set up can you please do a new video for dolby atmos I orderd one same as yours also dose it still play since you had it ? can i download disney + app?? which supports 4k atmos starwars
hey love your videos man. Just got my sony ubp x700 in the mail last week and tested out for a couple of days. One thing I noticed is that the picture on this blu-ray player looks darker when compared to my ps4 pro when playing standard blu-rays. Ive set the video settings to auto on the blu-ray player and tried tweaking the custom settings to match with the brightness of the ps4 pro. However, Im afraid i would'nt have the most accurate picture or even make the picture worse as Im not a professional in adjusting the contrast/brightness. fyi ive hooked up both of this devices to the same amp (through hdmi hdcp 2.2) that is connected to the tv. I would really appreciate if you could help me with this problem.
For me, it may not be the most professional, but I adjust the color and brightness so it looks most pleasing to my eyes. I get a good news channel, or something that will show a big close up of a person's face - and I try to adjust the color so their face looks the most natural to me, lips the right color, cheek bones the right shade of rosy, eyes the right depth of color. I figured if I can more or less correctly show people's faces, the rest of the scenes must be more or less correct or at least close to correct. I generally turn down the brightness, as having the tv too bright hurts my eyes, but then generally I'm viewing the tv in a darkish room, as that is how my house's living room is built, lots of trees outside and the windows do not face any sunshine.
I just bought this player as well and have a 65 900F. I've noticed that DV ads a yellow tint to The Last Jedi (only DV movie i have) Have you experience this? Is the tint correct for this film? Also, I'm having an issue when the HDMI port is set to enhanced (port 2), the menu of the 4k player won't display, Have you come across this? Bad cable maybe?
how do you enable Dolby Atmos? I have a Vizio 75 inch P-series quantum TV and I installed this 4K Blu ray player to this TV and all I get is Dolby Atmos TrueHD on the display of my JBL 9.1 soundbar
Look somewhere in your tv audio settings for bitstream or raw output. Also re check your Sony audio output settings. Make sure your using eARC from the TV.
Hey great vid. I have this player but my tv is a samsung. I noticed whilst watching your vid on the players display screen it has the Dolby Vision logo underneath 4K/24p. It dosent have that on my display. My DV on the player is turned on however does my tv have to DV capable as the option on my tv is only HDR+ obviously i am watching 4k discs and everything plays back though will it not be playing using DV ?
Thanks for the reply. IS there any diffence between DV and HDR+ and HDR10.. its very confusing.. i hear DV is better. Some ppl say it looks same or similar .?
THE RAFCAVE, I would like a big favor and one more help from you, I saw that you made a video about sony blu ray player x700, I needed to know if it was in the emby or emby theater app if you don't have any DLNA
Hey Raf. Is this the best 4K UHD Blu-Ray player presently in 2020 going into 2021 to pair with my LG C9 77” OLED and Dolby Atmos speakers? I’ve been eying this one because it’s quite compact and will easily fit into my entertainment cabinet. Also, I heard you have to manually TURN ON / OFF Dolby Vision when you pop in a Dolby Vision compatible disk. Is this true?
@@TheRafcave I don’t have a lot of space in my entertainment cabinet. I *might* be able to fit the Panasonic 820 which is the player I was originally looking at. I don’t know yet. You supposedly returned the SONY UBP-X700 and I was wondering if via a firmware update they corrected that Dolby Vision issue you were having? I mean, that blows if they didn’t. It’s a much more compact player and probably gives just as good of performance as the Panasonic for less. Also the Sony players and the PlayStation support Sirius XM which I am a lifetime subscriber to.
@@TheRafcave It might be good to have just a PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and that’s about it other than your Dolby Atmos receiver. The PlayStation 5 comes with a media remote but until RU-vidrs review it’s 4K UHD playback capabilities, we won’t know. I hope the PlayStation5/Xbox Series X supports Dolby Vision and all flavors of HDR and will circumvent the need for a standalone Blu-Ray 4K player. Maybe you still need one though.
Quick question. I have a different tv (2018 Vizio P series) but hopefully you have some advice. On Netflix using this player, when I go left, right, up or down between titles the screen goes black every time. Like Dolby vision is going on and off. Once I get in a movie it's fine but makes it frustrating when looking for something to watch. Any advice?
Update the player and TV. Use a different HDMI cable and try a different input on the Vizio. Also make sure uhd color is switched on in your TV video settings.
Hi , Somebody knows if this player has cinavia If I play a 4k movie by USB. And if make a pass through dolby atmos also by usb using HDMI output to an atmos receiver? Thanks!
It died after 2 or 3 years and i don't know if i have, maybe 100 hours watching on this blu ray player max.. I'm disappointed and i liked it very much.
@@TheRafcave Edit: I guess that blu-ray player is good only PSU thingy died, some random universal adapter should do the trick (with 1.5A or higher, 12V). I hope it will fix the problem.
I have a Vizo E-Series 50 inch 4K smart TV , I am watching my movies on the vudu app and I still have the black bars, Anyone know how to get rid of that?
@@TheRafcave Is it because they are wide screen format? I have the dark knight on my vudu app in UHD. I still saw the black bars. I thought having a bigger tv would of solved those problems.
Sometimes movies are In a letterbox format which gets black bars. The dark Knight has parts of the movie In full screen like the bane fight when bane broke Batman's back. Watch that part and tell me If you have bars.
I bought this player several years ago and it still looks great, but I never had a Dolby Vision TV and just watched it on a regular 4kTV. I just bought a Hisense 75" 4K H6510G with Dolby Vision (love the TV). I switched the Sony UBP X-700 remote on to Dolby Vision and the picture in Dolby Vision on 4k discs is just OK. I have never had my player hooked up to the internet and am not computer savvy. Do I have to download something to get a great Dolby Vision picture? All my Blu-ray discs look great, it is just the Dolby Vision that seems lame.
I have a new tv, after my last new tv, purchased 32 years ago. I'm not a big tv watcher. But I bought a nice used dvd player, and then purchased a 4k blu ray, which my blu ray player could not play. So I purchased a cheapish 4k blu ray player. I played a little of the dvd movie (they sold me a movie in dvd & blue ray 4k) and played the 4k blu ray. I didn't really notice a great big huge difference. Well not as much as I thought I would notice. But if I do perhaps purchase a 4k movie, I want to be able to play it. My portable blu ray recorder I can hook up to my laptop, I don't think can play 4k, so it's good to have a player that can. I hope you get years and years of enjoyment out of your tv and player.
If the movie doesn't actually support dolby vision the player tries to apply it anyway and it will look worse than just having it off. Make sure to only have it turned off if the movie itself supports it
Is it true that you have to turn Dolby Vision output off to watch 1080p Blu Ray and UHD Blu Ray with standard HDR? (Otherwise it will upscale all content to Dolby Vision)
Nobody cares about apps on a Blu-ray player. If you're buying a 4K Blu-ray player it means you have a 4K TV and every 4K TV is a Smart TV. So all the apps you need are on there. No wonder 4K Blu-ray players are so expensive.
Well.. my tv does not have the e-arc hdmi port. So my sony x700 the ones feeding my receiver with dolby atmos data. Every 4k tv needs a hd master surround sound. 4k is useless without a good clear crisp surround sound.
@@Revolver1981 the bluray player with apps built in, passes the atmos data to the atmos receiver. Which if you only have the smart tv alone, you wont get the atmos surround sound feeding from tv to atmos receiver directly.
@@calocoy6434 That still has nothing to do with what I said. I have the Panasonic UB450. A European model which has no apps but it has every audio and video codec and two HDMI ports. I also use the second HDMI port for discs which have DTS HD and DTS X. Because my TV doesn't have DTS decoding even though my TV still supports eArc and Dolby Atmos but I always use the Dolby Atmos from my UB450 anyway.

Anyone bought this recently? I read it had so many bugs like freezing. How is it now after sony firmware updates? Please reply I am interested in this player. Its very economical to buy.
@@colinparks619 it freeze on me two times only. Never with the 4k blu ray. Freeze once with the standard blu ray and once while I was streaming media from my pc to player through media server. I am sure they fixed the issues. If you bought it recently your box will say dolby vision which the older boxes didn't have as dolby vision was added later with an update. Mine was up to date out of the box. So you didn't make a bad decision. Its a very nice and fast budget 4k player. I added a Sony soundbar and with dolby atmos it gives cinematic sound as well. Don't regret your purchase bro.
Great review, looking to purchase this but I'm curious if this can play a ripped UHD Blu-ray through the USB, not mkv rips but the untouched HEVC folder structure?
Hi I have a Sony Bravia led and a HTZ9 soundbar. I have a ps4 pro and Im pretty sure I have the ps4 pro hdmi connected to the the hdmi2 on tv. I have the ARC CONNECTED from my tv to my soundbar. So I’m lost when it comes to setting this blu ray if I buy it. What would you recommend ?
How’s it working out together? I’m about to get one tmrw for my lg c8 too. I heard this player had a lot of bugs but I would think they got fixed by now
I just bought this bluray player.I come to see this tutorial and I see a very excited guy and happy that he was able to set it up.Then I will read the comments: The guy got rid of the bluray player! 😂🤣🤭 Anyway I found the video and the comments very useful.I hope that today (2022) updates have corrected those problems.Greetings and thank you.Very good tutorial.
Last year I bought arguably the greatest l.e.d tv of all time sony z9d ...ht st5000 atoms sound bar and ubp x800 like everyone else who spent big bucks I was disappointed to find out the x800 was not receiving the update for Dolby vision but I read it’s because the chip set can’t handle the new update the x700 being a cheaper model but being released after the x800 the x700 has a newer chip set and can run the the new Dolby firmware ..I read in reviews that The 700 lacks a little in sound and color compared to the x800...I do still stream dolby vision from apps and Apple TV but I’m wondering if I should shell out the extra money for the x700 updated vision playback thru physical media when my picture is already incredible and Sony might actually make a brand new flagship blue ray 4k player in the future that I could just wait for ??? I’m conflicted is it really worth it dolby vision is only slightly better with color tones from what I can see on streams of vision shows on Netflix but on physical media the change could be more noticeable like some 4k streamed movies vs physical movie Copy’s I’ve compared ...
You have a great TV! Dolby Vision Is a luxury. As long as you have a great TV, the HDR Is fine. You can always stream Dolby Vision until a new player comes out. 😉👍🏽
I just got one yesterday and the 4k discs are already freezing and the player has to be reset everytime this happens. Don't recommend and definitely going back to the store.
Thank you for the posting. I just bought the Sony UPB x700. Did the same testing for HDR that you did. Also could not get HDR. Played with the setting, and still did not get it. I would appreciate your help on the screen setting. Thanks
I had the Sony X700 as well, but had major issues with freezing. Bought mine in April 2019, then bought an LG UBK80 in December 2019. Haven't had any issues since. Have you had any issues with freezing.... could be disc playback or USB usage?
So I was wondering some people are saying that if your not watching Dolby vision disc you should turn off the Dolby vision on the player cause it dont switch automatically can you confirm or will it indeed switch automatically
you know I love this Blu-ray player but me and everybody else I've talked to or seen videos of says that Netflix keeps on doing a black flickering screen it's annoying you go to go through the menus and it goes black screen flicker black screen flicker black screen flicker and its really annoyingI wish somebody would fix this problem and I also wish they would let us be able to other apps on our device like Disney plus and things like that.
Need help!! Does the Sony UBP-X700 4K Ultra HD Blu-Ray decode DTS HD MA Audio ? because i have sonos arc, two sonos one sl and a sub but they cant do DTS HD MA Audio but other audio works so can it decode to dolby digital or other stuff ?
Aye RafCave wasup watched your video on the Sony 4k ultra 700 cause I just picked up one yesterday.... silly me thought I had it goin good was getting blu rays with dolby atmos I'm workin with the yamaha tsr-700 then started getting 4k dvd's but came up short cause anything in my house doesn't play 4k dvd's so did my research and landed on your video on this sony unit... so hope I have the same success as you... I see your psyched plus U gave this unit a good 👍 word ... Awesomeness, PeaceLove&GodBless
Hi , Somebody knows if this player has cinavia If I play a 4k movie by USB. And if make a pass through dolby atmos also by usb using HDMI output to an atmos receiver? Thanks!
Hey Raf, I’m pretty sure that Sony corrected that Dolby Vision issue you had a problem with. The recent firmware update fixed it. You now set Dolby Vision to always ON and it will auto-detect Dolby Vision based on the disc you inserted. This Sony might be the best 4K UHD player on the market taking everything into account.
The problem with that is it sets every movie with Dolby Vision. It doesn't switch between Dolby Vision and regular HDR if you turn it always on. I checked the tv info settings and it always has Dolby Vision not regular HDR. You have to always switch it on or off based on whether the 4k blu-ray movie has it or not which is a pain but it is the cheapest high quality 4k blu-ray player around right now.
Why the sony they have been having problems with dolby vision. If you turn DV on then hdr10 movies and standard blurays with be forced to upscale to DV witch looks bad and causes refresh rate problems. Also when DV is on you cant use 3d blurays
Remade Gaming I read to keep the DV off In the settings and then the player will ask if you want to switch to DV. There Is an update coming for low latency DV.
Hi Raf! I owned a Panasonic Ub820 4k blu-ray player with Dolby Vision for almost 2 yrs. and working fine. But for the past 2 months I started having problems with 4k blu-ray with DV.The player wont read it. I did upgrade the firmware and nothing work. I wondering it you have an idea fix this issue. Thank you in advance.
Thanks for the video, I was curious what sort of HDMI cable should I get to get the best/sharpest picture for watching the action movies. Any help is appreciated
@@TheRafcave you have a beautiful setup I see that you switch the Sony for LG how do you like that transition? Are they both just as good or is one better than the other? For some reason Sony are a lot for expensive than LG I’m wondering what your thoughts are. Thank you
@@arthurlunais Thanks Arturo. I went with LG because I game alot and the LG has better gaming features. The Sony was very slow In getting gaming features Installed. If your only watching movies and sports the Sony has a small edge In picture. But overall I like the LG best. 🙂👍🏽
@@TheRafcave my region free DVD player I currently have… I have to change the sound setting on my soundbar to HDMI and that’s all it shows when I use the player. While watching TV, using Roku or my PS5 it stays on E-ARC.
@@TheRafcave got my player today! If you don’t mind, when you get some time, I have a couple of other questions for you. Settings questions. One is right now I’m playing a standard DVD and the picture seems like it’s really smooth motion. I’m wondering if there is a setting to make it more like my old player picture settings? The other question is about the sound. It sounds really heavy on bass. Are there proper audio settings as well? It just seems like my other player that I had before this. The picture quality was more to my liking as was the audio quality. Certainly I want to get the best quality out of all mediums I put in it and I’m hoping you can help me. Also, if I change picture settings on one format, will it adapt to the other or will there be independent settings for both DVD picture quality and Blu-ray picture quality?
Bobby Maull Hey bobby! I got rid of It because the DV Is not Implemented correctly. You have to manually turn the DV on and off depending on what It Is . Ugh...
@@TheRafcave Hi. What did you mean by that fix? I have that TV too and looking to buy a player. Did you mean update in TV or in Player? Is it now? Some tells that xbox one x shows the same picture as it has HDR too..is it true?
The Dolby Vision update has already happened so the player Is good to go. Xbox one X has Dolby Vision for streaming only now, disk update won't happen untill next year.
are you aware this plays full dolby vision films from a usb as long as they are in a BDMV folder. absolutely stunning. obviously your tv needs to support dolby vision. I've got about 100 dolby vision ripped to BDMV folder on a 4tb usb hDD
@@Haydos folders its not rocket science mate. Example nobody 2021 dolby vision inside that folder put the BDMV folder and certificate folder if you want easy as that
Do you have your Sony X700 plugged into a sound system before going into your tv? I have a ARC Soundbar and the Player using separate HDMI ports on the TV and it disables my sound when I enable Dolby Vision, any suggestions?
@@TheRafcave That is exactly what I have... My soundbar is Dolby Audio capable but not Atmos capable wonder if that has anything to do with it. Thanks for clarifying!
@@TheRafcave thank you sir!! My Toshiba is regza is glitching with the Roku so I’m looking for a new app “box”. I’m going to get this for my LG C8 tmrw because it support the top features the tv offers. Atoms audio and Dolby vision. I’m gonna use a audio quest cinnamon hdmi to connect it. But I’m curious . I have a definitive technology bar . Will the tv send atmos audio through optic? Or you need hdmi ?
I have the UbP x800 and initially I had just an HDR 10 TV, I upgraded a week or so ago to a dolby vision TV...so bought this x700 version as the other one didn't do dolby vision. I love it but one thing I am not sure about is do you need to turn off the dolby vision setting in video settings when you are not watching a dolby vision disc? I tried it and it looks fine to me just on HDR with the dolby vision turned on but I think you are supposed to turn it off for HDR only content? It is just the problem I am finding is not all discs and covers say they are dolby vision even though when I google the movie titles I am finding that they are. It is ok to have to google but surely I don't need to do that every time I want to know if it is in dolby vision or not? It is just I noticed some say it on the covers or on the disc, or both. But others don't say and it turns out that they are? P.S that is crap that the LG only did dolby vision for apps. That would have been really disappointing for me, I am glad I didn't buy LG but never would as I only buy brands that have been around for a long time and well established...LG stands for L ...oad of G ...arbage.
@@TheRafcave the wee problem I am having is for example I am watching flash gordon release by studio canal. It is the steelbook. I don't see anywhere on the steelbook nor the disc that it is dolby vision yet when I googled if it is it actually says this disc is in dolby vision. If you also Google you will find that if you leave the dolby vision setting on and the disc isn't dolby vision the contrast is all wrong. Not a fan of LG but in fairness I never had anything LG just stick with Sony mostly for pretty much everything.. Even my phones.
I'm not getting the Dolby Vision pop-up on the top right corner. I have a Philips 4K UHD TV with HDR10 and I messed around with all the settings, but the most I'm getting is 4K @ 20ghz and no Dolby Vision... Any help?
@@TheRafcave probably not... which sucks because Dolby Vision seems to make everything much better. I read that 4K TVs need to be HDCP 2.2 compatible in order to actually play 4K content?
I just got this player, ive not set it up to the internet. I just use it for blu ray disks. But the screen jumps when im watching blu ray discs at time's, do i need to connect my ubp x700 to the internet and update it in order to fix that so it plays the discs smoothly? I'm not looking to improve the resolution, just not have that occasional jump during the movie when watching discs. This is probably a stupid question
@@TheRafcavelol, it was my TV and not the player. I fixed it. I had this weird setting turned on that had screwed up my resolution. But I set my settings back to the way they were and that resolved the issue. I just now got done watching a movie and had no issues
