Wish they'd just open an API and let third parties create a better solution 😂 (I've been using Sony's app through the various rebrands since 2013 and I'm pretty sure I could do a better job haha)
Canon having focus issues? Never! 🙄 Also, if Sony wants to call their cameras vlogging cameras, they need to improve their absolutely atrocious OIS. People might balk but I’ve not found a better vlogging camera to use than the GoPro Hero 11 Black. It might not have an optical zoom or anything, but it’s lightweight, small, has incredible OIS and a nice wide angle lens. Just need a separate mic to get decent audio.
Great video! Personally, I do like the V10 form factor. I think a better comparison would have been the ZV-1f vs the V10. Both cameras are closer in price and both only have contrast-detect sensors. I like the V10 for what it is and for the price. I'd love to consider action cams but the current ones I have don't have the best close focus distance. Hopefully firmware comes soon since it does share the Digic-x I'm sure it'll do well but as it is I remain interested in it. Thanks again for the comparison!
I got the canon v10. So far I think it’s a fun little camera. Kinda fun to just throw in my pocket and see what I run into ( with a case. I bought a case because I want the lcd and lens to last)
The last camera I got for RU-vid video blogs was the DJI Action 3. This action camera rocks because of it’s picture quality and great sound quality. The start was odd due to a focusing issue, DJI would fix that a few months later. It is the only Camera I have that shoots 4K. I also use my Canon SL2 DSLR camera for my channel. All though it only shoots 1080 HD. It still rocks. I don’t know when I will update to a new camera, as my 2 cameras are doing just fine. If I was to update I would get the Sony one, because Sony rocks when it comes to video. My Sony Action Cam 3000 was the best camera of it’s time. Thank you for making this video. PS as a blind video creator with little site, I only have reviews and thoughts from people who can see like you. Thank you Becca for your awesome thoughts and personality in these videos..
Interesting that, unlike the previous version, there is no optical stabilization, but I never would've guessed it from your footage. Sony's Active stab looks great now!
@@leonardw5487probably the biggest reason on getting a dedicated cameras. No matter how good the smartphone gets. it always has the “smartphone” look to it. and if you get a dedicated camera you can just settle for the base flagship models in each upgrade and save alot in the long run.
@@leonardw5487 For Still Photography there has not been that much improvement in the last 10 years, there has been alot of improvement in video for cameras. A 10 year old DSLR or mirrorless camera would be pretty worthless for video. Also, phones are improving their video at a much faster rate than cameras are.
eh, there was a test comparing a bunch of different companies' color science i.e. Cannon, Nikon, Fuji, Sony, etc, and Canon is actually the least natural looking (compared to eye) but it has a good skin tone and the warm color looks pleasing.
I have the ZV-1 and still love it. I can't imagine the MII isn't also compelling. I do like the USB--C, wider lens, and upgraded touchscreen/UI. I wont be upgrading as there aren't enough difference and because I've fixed some of the issues on the ZV-1 with 3rd party accessories. Regardless, I find this camera very useful as a companion to a smartphone or as a second camera with a higher end body. Sony did a good job with this type of camera!
Zv-1 II way overpriced. As an original ZV-1 owner that was a $599 camera on its best day. To see the ZV-1 II offer very little in the way of upgrade and to even downgrade some features it’s DOA for me especially with the significant price bump. Neither camera is a buy IMO. Even beginners should look to the ZV-E10 or R50 with the kit lens.
I LOVE the V10 and have been doing great with it. They made it to use it vlogging but also live streaming as well and that is how I use it and could not be happier with it paired with my M200 and R6 Mark II. It is awesome to have in my kit for when that is needed. Canon is making something for everything and if that means that some people not liking some product then so be it but there is always something for everyone and everything in between as well. GG Canon!
You livesstream on twitch or youtube? how is the experience are there problems with the canon app? I assume you're talking livestreaming irl not sitting at your desktop, if not just ignore the question sorry.
Hi Becca. Can you check out and review DJI osmo pocket 2 as a vlogging camera? It has a 4k 60fps recording option. I know the pocket 3 might be on the way. But still I think pocket 2 offers a lot. With its inbuilt physical gimbal and cinema profile.
I don't know why they can't make it easy to transfer photos to cellphones. This camera while not designed for blogging, it was released in 2013 and has this nifty button on it. (Red arrow in photo) While traveling China, and snapping photos, I accidently pushed the button and everyone around me got notifications, apparently I had just sent several photos I had just taken, at that location... Hmmm apparently I can't add a photo, the camera is the Samsung WB200F and the button is on top of the camera, it is the "Direct Link button, you can set up the button to send to everyone in the area that will accept it or a friend group or just a single phone. All the blogging cameras should have this feature.
I must say, I cannot comprehend why Canon made this the way they did. Everything you said of IF they made the camera a certain way, then it'd work. Also Canon's app and connection issues never makes sense to me. All these things combined make me wonder why one would get the PowerShot over just using their phone, or even a cheap(er) phone (the iPhone SE is the same price). Full-Frame >>> More Full-Frame please 😭
the Canon Connect app has come a very long way. all those negative reviews were most likely with the old revisions of the software. in the old days, you had to decide between connecting wifi or Bluetooth. and both ways had their pros and cons. and the app was very finicky about whether to launch the app first and then start the camera connection or turn on the camera first and then start the app. but those days are gone. it's super easy. you don't have to decide wifi or BT (it seems to use both!). connection is super easy. and for the couple times it didn't connect right away, the onscreen instructions were good enough to help me fix it. Now, I read that the new version of the software (which isn't out yet) will let you livestream as well as do other things. But right now, copying photos is super easy. I do wish they gave more options for photo copying. Right now, you get to either do a super compressed 1.5 MB file or a massively huge JPG (something like 8-15MB depending on the camera that you're using). I'd love a high quality photo that was somewhere in-between in terms of file size. As for a phone, the best cameras of a phone are on the back and if you're using the back, you have 2 issues. the first is you can't frame yourself with the background properly because you can't see the screen. the other is I'm always accidentally touching the screen of my phone and if you can't see the screen, you don't know what is happening. the only way to prevent that is to use a gimbal or tripod or something but then, it's no longer really portable.
Love Becca! Totally agree... wish Canon would make the G7X line better and more like the ZV-1 lineup. Surprising how much better the Canon colors were even though the image wasn't as good as the sony
Thing is I like is to zoom a lot. It's few of the reasons I was considering the RX 100VII. Downgrading the camera to an even shorter range from the Mark 1 makes it less versatile then it should be. Sure it's brighter but it doesn't capture as much range as the ZV1 mark 1 or the RX 100 VII. If I want to capture night the iPhones does it way better. So unfortunately it's a pass for me 🤷🏻♂️. Good for anybody who doesn't have my preference tho don't worry.
Very helpful video - thank you. Just wanted to say that the V10 now (NOV 2023) is super cheap. I intend to use it as a UVC-compliant webcam. Camera apps: totally agree. One of the few exceptions is Panasonic's relatively new LUMIX Sync app. It actually works! 😉😉The old 'Image App' (still available) is bad, though.
Always love Becca's videos. She has great camera presence and energy and she's always "on point". I always learn something too. Thanks Becca: keep up the great work!
I have the mark 1 Sony ZV-1 and it’s better than my iPhone 14 Pro Max as a camera. But I do agree with Becca about the app experience, especially sharing the photo to social media. Now, I’m facing a dilemma on whether to bring both my dedicated camera and my smartphone for travel or just bring one of them.
Great review, was great to see both of those cams together. Only thing I couldn’t follow was the app topic. Use canon and I am happy with the app. Use it often for remote control and I can get all footage and fotos directly on my phone and iPad, keep up the good work, cheers 👍🏻
I still love my ZV1 Mk1, it’s a wonderful blogging camera, and webcam too! I’m not sure I see a reason to update it yet. But that white color is 👌. God I wish Sony would just REDO their in camera settings and their apps, as they’re so difficult to work with, and needlessly so. It’s my one pain with them. Terrible UI’s across the board.
I think these pro reviews miss the point of Canon v10. I picked mine up for $200 from Canon refurbed, my 9 year olds can use it immediately to tinker and record cool stuff, and it takes great videos. It is not a professional camera, is not priced, spec'd, designed or implemented as a pro level product. It's for beginner and intermediate - and at that, it absolutely exceeds. I like how the reviewer concludes that the Sony wins even though its literally double the msrp of the Canon - huh, ya think....
Thank you becca for calling out these camera companies ! My Fujifilm App is Terrible and even if i manage to transfer images from Camera to Phone the extreme compression makes the JPEGs unusable.
Yes. The reliable apps are essential if they want smartphone content creators to buy a standalone camera. I may just get the sony xperia 1 V altogether...heard good reviews about that
Why ZV-1 Mark II 20 megapixels is more expensive than ZV-E10 have 24 megapixels? And for the photos results, which one will be more good? Please answer 🙏🏼 thanks
First gen and also last gen product for that Canon. It ain’t gonna sell much and Canon isn’t the kinda company that will make improvements and newer version of it..
The app rating for canon is unfair because the app has come a very long way it used to be awful. But the new version is really good. Easy to connect. Lots of options
I have the Sony ZV-1 M2! It's woow...except the stabilization which is just kind of decent. Catalyst Browse is the hero that saves this camera - it bites a little bit from the resolution (I think) but the stabilization becomes way better in comparison with the active one (which is just decent enough to do the job if you really want to vlog). But the image quality is really good and it takes amazing pictures in RAW (so you can edit them). I don't get it! How smartphones have better stabilization compared to proper cameras?! And it is also electronic stabilization SONY! :))
Becca, your videos rock! Seriously this is making me consider ditching my iPhone 12 for my content - but you said it, the integration back to my phone with an app continues to be a nightmare/mess. For me, creating those 2hr script, film (do film during the week as well), edit --> launch flow is killed by the anemic apps that these companies put out.
dunno what are u talking, i have no prob using camera connect app on my m6 mark ii, work flawlessly, remote control my camera and sending pics from camera to my ihone even RAW pics
Sony ZV-1 Mk1 is in generał better if you don’t need that extra width in the lens. And with discounts and cashbacks one can get it for half the price of the Mk2. I don’t really get it how Sony imagines people paying more money for less features.
