Very excited to share one of my favorite and most hated devices. This one worked out, others tend to put up more of a fight.
Anyway, enjoy. Links for service manuals in the description :)

I bought a broken one off eBay. It had horrible battery corrosion on both boards, missing PCB traces etc. I removed all the wires, scrubbed the boards with some sulfuric acid to remove all the corrosion, soldered in patch wires for the missing PCB traces, and resoldered all the wires and it actually works!

Yeah the old problem of batteries. That would have taken a fair bit of work as they're small devices. Does it work alright? Sometimes I repair them to find the pinch rollers are worn out and they chew tapes

@@Collinormous @Collin Ahhh yes, I know the problem. There is a little spring that keeps the auto stop mechanism from randomly triggering. I have another video fixing a WM-F65 that covers what part is causing the issue. I will link it for you. If you go to 9:35 this part is the same on the WM-F15 and could be the issue if the retaining spring is broken. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Ua7nPKzOU1M.html

@@Collinormous Also to add, re that video. If the spring is still on the assembly, it will still flop about as shown. But it should spring back when pushed diagonally. If it pushes in but doesn't sort of spring back, the spring is broken and the little plastic arm isn't being held to the outside of the plastic circle around the capstan shaft. Hope that give you a direction to check! I have another one to fix so will cover this in more detail on the next one I repair.

I had the headphone jack with green surround fail on my WM-F41. I ended up geting an entirely new jack from radio shack with a tiny metal lock-ring, about 2mm tall, and replacing the jack entirely. Now that there is an external, steel 2mm lock-ring, inserting the plug puts zero pressure on the printed circuit board inside. It should last forever! This was a design shortcut on SONY walkmans and a design mistake, imho, you should never mount a banana plug adapter to a circuit board with the solder connections alone!

Thanks to this video, i replaced the belt on my Sony unit. After putting it back together and press play, there is an audible clicking noise. It can be heard on the side of the tuner wheel. If I loosen the screws on that side, it goes away. If i press down on that side, it comes back. I tighten the screws, it comes back. I assume it hits something when play is pressed, not sure what it could be though. Any ideas?

Nice! good to hear the video was of some help for you. Apart from checking the hub teeth for bits of dirt. My best solution would be to remove the front door and bezel. Then just screw in only the back cover for the battery. (unless you have an external power supply). Run the unit without the covers and hopefully it will narrow down the issue. It could be a wire or something else rubbing. If it's not bits of dirt stuck in the hub teeth. hope that helps!

Wow! From new! What year did you get it? I think they started production in 85, but not sure how long they ran it for. I've heard that WD-40 works well on sticky belt goo. Nice! Yeah I've had that before. Behind the capstan shaft is a little plastic hook. This falls into a grove when the tape stops moving and clicks the player off.
