Thank you for doing this. It's really starting tick me off that I had the option to buy the Samsung Q80 but went for this one because all of the claims Sony made about HDMI 2.1 on this model. And so far I truly do regret buying the 900H over the Q80. Sony deserves a class action lawsuit if they don't either fix this by next month or offer customers who purchased it an option to get next years model at a discount. It's a good TV but it's frustrating not be able to use it for the reason I bought it.

I use the TV with my PS5 Hdmi 2.1. The games all run smoothly on 120hz 4K and 60HZ 4K. I'm sitting about 2 / 2.5 meters in front of the TV. The graphics are great and I am very happy with the TV.I've been playing Cold War at 120. Nothing is blurry with me.

This is a great academic discussion and I appreciate you digging into it. But no consumer anywhere would ever see this. But the display should not be the limiting factor and I'm grateful you're putting Sony's feet to the fire on a hardware issue.

Thanks for the effort Vincent! You are mad, mate :) You could've filmed in sequence using one ps5 and one tv, film on older firmware, upgrade, film again and put them side by side in video editor.

This is not the best time to buy a TV but I needed one. Very interesting to see that quality was lowered to fulfill 120hz. I suspect that there will be many games where 4k60hz will be the best combination of quality and performance

So I had the Sony x900e 55 inch and I sold it and bought the 65 inch sony x900h. All I can say is there's quite a noticeable difference and I am very happy with this TV. I loved the somy x900e as well. Im not sure why quantum tv you tube channel or whatever his name is bashes on the TV. This thing is awesome and especially for games. Super smooth

You can already update your TV to firmware 6.0429 via Sony’s support site. You can only update your tv via a USB now.

I haven't really noticed any blurriness that would make me get a refund. I love my X900H. Input lag was a huge issue with my PS4 PRO, but it is practically non-existent on the PS5. It disappears at 4k120.

Could you make a video explaining why you don't think firmware can resolve the issue with the 4k blurriness? At least with my understanding of the issue it's pretty clearly a processing issue, we know the hdmi port can send the correct amount of information required for 4k 120 and we know the processor is strong enough to do 4k 120 so why do you think sony won't be able to fix it with firmware? I think it would make a pretty good video.

You convinced me and I just bought this tv! Been playing on 24inch 1080p and 27inch 1440p monitors for years now. With my PS5 on the way, really looking forward to kicking back and not leaning forward straining my eyes. Hopefully the input lag isn't too bad, which is the reason I use monitors for gaming.

Totally don’t regret returning this TV before I got my PS5 shipped. I really wanted to like it, it’s got a lot of good features and black levels are pretty great for an LED TV. BUT....the 120hz gaming would bother the hell out of me. If I’m buying a TV for a grand, it better be amazing.

Sony really pissed me off with these poor updates. It’s got to the point where everyone should get together and hire a lawyer to sue them for false advertising. People bought this TV based on everything that was supposed to come with the future updates to it’s HDMI 2.1. But they did a half ass job with their updates to this point. If I would have know this is how it was going to be I would have went with the LG CX, or Samsung’s Q80T, or Q90T.

I’m soo glad I went OLED this year for the PS5. I won’t have to deal with blooming ever again !! Thank you 🙏 soo much for spending so much money 💰 to run these comparisons. Also, you stated that Sony has a hardware issue on the PS5, but you know like we do that the PS5 is still outperforming the Series X even with a capped 32 GB bandwidth.

My hopes are high on the next firmware update. After all I did go all in... hard :(

Thank you for another great video. I think I'm just going to keep my X900 at 60fps. I really noticed the flickering or is it shimmering in the text in a couple of games but didn't understand why it was there. Now all we need is the VRR support to get rid of screen tearing. As I'm still getting that even in performance mode on the Xbox version of AC Valhalla.

Why is it that Sony with all its resources, release products with deficiencies that their Engineers don't/can't notice or fix prior to the general public inspecting their products????

In my opinion, it doesn't matter whether you will notice it or not when gaming. We have to look at the main issue here. If a tv is being advertised as having a 4K120hz option it should be able to show an image looking just as sharp as the 4K60hz mode. Otherwise this is false advertising and this should never be acceptable!

Awesome content, I bought this TV for a new Xbox and I am slightly disappointed. I got a great deal over black Friday and it is a very good upgrade from our 6 year old LG. Still happy with the TV but disappointed in the marketing.

As an average consumer, I have no clue what you are talking about loooool, and I respect that intelligent people like yourself are holding these manufacturers accountable, regarding my experience with this TV, I honestly do not know and can not tell the difference between either of the PS5's! Thanks for this review Vincent. I purchased the 65 inch version a few days ago based on amazing reviews. Overall, I am pleased with the tv although I have experienced a couple of issues which you may be able to comment on. 1. When trying to mirror from my macbook the screen just goes blank (it works fine mirroring an iphone) and transmitting via youtube app works fine. 2) I have not been lucky enough to find a ps5 console so tried an old ps2 (i know, I want to get back into gaming :)) you see the screen some of the time but when it comes to playing a game it goes blank (tried on hdmi 4 and 1). After watching your review I felt confident that I must still be running old firmware so was dismayed to see I was indeed running version 6.0414..... I would really appreciate your comments! Many Thanks!

If ultimately this can't do it, Sony should be taking these TV's back and offering a full refund based on False Advertisement. I hope they fix this but I bought this TV with the promise of chroma 4:4:4 4k@120hz. Its even a nightmare to get a 3070 to connect properly. Whats worse is my tv is passed the return period and its such trash. I don't mind giving Sony time to fix it but if they can't, take the damn TV back or update it and issue a free replacement.

I would be interested to know how this looks legally. In my opinion, Sony has not fulfilled the purchase contract. I'll wait and see when the first lawsuits are filed.

Great video saving hours to understand what reviewers are seeing and reporting on when setting up 4K TVs. My interpretation shows despite the rapid advancements in technology time is still in control slowing down progress to give us true 4K TV. Both 4K gaming using higher gaming refresh rates past 60hz for a clearer picture in motion and 4K movies created off industry standard 2K media shows true 4K TV viewing let alone 8K TV is still years away especially with money and the laws of physics in control of the mindset driving the market with people still buying DVDs people enjoyed on a "huge" 35in tube TV decades later in 2021 to watch on a much larger 4K TV a generation past Blue-ray HD resolution. And interestingly all discussions involving higher resolution 4K TV use a relative term involving size connected to viewing distance which makes a 4K TV "much" bigger than a comparable size HD TV because you sit so much closer pulling in more information. A 65in 4K TV is a much bigger TV than a 65in HD TV because it has such a close optimal viewing distance which is something not being discussed on the sales floor other than the good advice given here to go bigger than you think you need when buying a 4K TV BECAUSE the optimal viewing distance needed for an HD TV is too far away to match the optimal viewing distance of a 4K TV. So a 4K TV is really a smaller TV depending on how you look at it... which is exactly how you will look at it when you get it home and place it where an HD TV was located and notice it's too small relative to it's higher resolution and your past viewing distance. So in making TV's bigger with higher resolution they actually became smaller first relative to the 'viewing distance area' and size of the room needed meaning there is a big difference watching TV alone vs in a group off axis. Although "obvious" it's not until you get your first 4K TV home to replace an HD TV when you really notice how important a closer viewing distance is to see the increase in higher resolution. If you do the math you will see something very interesting due to the HD/4K harmonic ratio where the closest recommended viewing distance for watching an HD TV based on resolution is the furthest recommended viewing distance for watching the same size TV in 4K which IMO is the first thing to be aware of when replacing an HD TV with a new 4K TV. I noticed a friend having a hard time understanding why his families new "huge" 60in 4K TV didn't look as big as expected after telling him he needed 65in. at a minimum with 70in much better which he rejected as being way "too big". You may not notice it till you get the 4K TV home so just remember a 4K TV is a smaller TV than an HD TV of the same size relative to the observation space created by the closer optimal viewing distance. This is why 4K TV also creates a "bigger" TV as well where the smaller viewing area will be even more apparent with an increase in the number of viewers so you MUST size up to keep the same relative size viewing area in place based on the optimal viewing distance. On one hand a 4k TV providing more information is a bigger TV than its HD counter part the same size... but on the other hand it's smaller viewing area makes it a much smaller TV as well for a family. As with everything it's all how you look at it and the foundation based on time connected to space is set in place making the difference in observation measurable and quite real.

Any chance for another update to fully fix this issue as well as finally adding VRR? Or tv processor is too weak for that?

I had seen something going around message boards right before the PS5’s release saying that the X900H had “motion-blur issues” in 120Hz mode. And I couldn’t figure out (at the time) if it was trolling or if these were actual complaints. Ultimately, it made me decide to hold off on purchasing the X900H right now. Now, I’m kinda glad to see that my skepticism wasn’t unwarranted and with a little patience, they actually seem to have somewhat fixed this issue with the newest firmware?

To anyone's question. . this TV also is blurry at 100Hz on RGB or Ycbcr444 at 8bit - 12bit. It fails on every level at this point above 60hz. Unbelievable. This is on a 90h / 900h 65".

got mine updated yesterday. I gaming on pc at 4k 120hz res, it is still blurry and the true resolution is more like 2k or even lower. its the chip defect and it cannot be fixed via patches. I hv ordered 65x90j already to get the corrected 4k120, sad story.

Out of curiousity, what does the text look like from the 3090 with YUV 422/444? The same/worse versus RGB 444? Just wondering if there is different processing.

Appreciate the side by side Vincent. I definitely accept that it is a hardware issue, but at least Sony tried to fix it somewhat. Personally the TV is still fantastic for me. I do not play PC on my TV and only play XSX and PS5. On XSX I have gone back and forth between 4k60 and 4k120 to TRY and notice something an thankfully my eyes just couldn't see a difference. On PC? 100% noticeable. So for my use case, the x900h is the perfect TV for me. 65inch at $969? I just could not beat that price for this picture quality. Especially coming from OLED the past 4 years (my LG B6 got massive burn in), I was worried about financially having to go back to LED and the x900h has made me a believer in thar fact that LED has definitely done well at closing the gap between it and OLED in the 4 years since I've been out of the TV market loop. As long as that VRR update still happens in the spring, the x900h will be my TV for a solid 4-5 years. The picture quality and Sony's color algorithm really are quite amazing. Android TV also is amazing as well.
