We caught a small mistake at 7:50. We say that you shouldn't get this TV if you have a Radeon GPU due to the TV's lack of Freesync, but you should note that recent AMD Radeon cards, namely the Radeon RX 6000 and RX 7000 series, do support HDMI Forum VRR, so this statement only applies to Radeon RX 5000 series cards and earlier! Sorry about that small mistake, thank you for watching! 😊
Enjoyed the review, thank you. I'm looking forward to see how this TV compares against the Hisense UX being that its supposedly a step up from the U8k and the x95l and the u8k were very close in scoring.
Thank you! We've actually just purchased the Hisense UX a couple days ago, so expect that review to be up on our website once we receive it and test it! There will also be a video review done for that TV since there's so much interest from users!
I’ve had this TV for about 3 weeks, it was pricey yes but the picture quality is amazing. The brightness is so good that depending on the scene it made my eye squint cause of how bright it is. But in order to take advantage of the streaming or Bravia core streaming, I highly recommend buying a usb 3.0 to Ethernet adapter. As the built in wifi is slow and built in Ethernet port.
Did you actually try and manage to get a Ethernet adapter work? Cause they usually don't work on the Sony TVs like how they plug & play work on LG, Samsung TVs.
@@hastensavoir7782not true. It's not OLED, but it's beyond satisfactory for a common living room with L-shaped couch and side recliner. Zero complaints during movies or NFL games from anyone.
Hoping we see some of that X95L quality into the 2024 X93L models. I would assume that is how it works. Sounds like the 2024 models may be THE mini-leds to get in 2024.
I think you're a bit of a star Abby, I have also been thoroughly enjoying your longevity series on the R&D channel. Thanks for the review, here in Europe we do get the 65 inch version of this TV and I'm currently considering it.
It's mentioned the panel does well with screen reflections but I don't know. The light sources coming from the ceiling lights and windows in front of the TV distracted me the whole review. Is it better in real life?
The problem with this TV in Australia is that hardly any retailers seem to stock it and they are still really expensive even though they’re last year’s model, probably because of minimal competition between retailers and the fact that there’s no equivalent Bravia 9 option in most sizes. So I can get last year’s LG G3 for way way cheaper than an X95L of the same size (65” for me).
This is a weird TV offering. I can only find it on Amazon or other online retailers, but I can't find it in any Best buy showroom. I told them about this TV model and they hadn't heard of it but referred me to the X93L as Sonys Mini LED flagship model. I had to actually show them online the TV and they were surprised.
Thank you, was waiting for this review. Iam choosing between the Samsung S95c or this one. Price from the 77 Samsung QD OLED is cheaper in Europe than the Sony 75 MiniLED but dont want to risk burnin. What would you choose?

I’d recommend the Samsung S90c since it’s extremely close in picture quality to the S95c. With the extra money you save, I’d get a warranty that covers burn-in if you’re that worried about it. Burn-in really isn’t a problem anymore unless you watch the same channel with a bright channel logo 80% of the time. I’ve played 600 hours of Warzone on my LG CX and have zero burn-in from the HUD.
@@Reginald_Harrison Thank you for the advice and sharing the experience with your OLED. Gives me confidence that you had no burn in after that many hours of game time. Ill wait till Black Friday. Think its gonna be the Samsung, also matches with my soundbar. My old UE65KS9000 Samsung still works like a charm after 7 years.
Hello Rtings i have a question, i now own the sony xh900 of Sony do you think the Sony X95L will be a much better tv than the xh900? I can buy it for a good price, so what you think should i buy it or do you think its not much of an upgrade from my sony xh 900? Its for all uses gaming, tv shows, and movies.

I'd have bought this TV if it was available even in 65 size but it is only available only in 85 inch size here. I wanted this tv for my bedroom because a lot of sunlight enters that room and my wife watches a lot of cable which is why OLED wasn't an option. Sony makes really weird decisions like their pricing for A95L OLED. If A95L was only $300-400 more expensive than Samsung S95C or LG G3 then they would have owned that market segment.
Stutter is about the amount of time each frame is held on for after the pixels transition, and judder is an inconsistent frame time. You can read about each of them in more depth here: www.rtings.com/tv/tests/motion/stutter
So black friday 2023 has 85"X95L for 3500 and A90J 83" for 3350 prices.. Which one to go for when watching movies in light controlled room (meaning dark) at 10.5 feet viewing distance? Any major difference with experience (size/PQ/HDR impact)?

Good morning , I just bought this model and I noticed black spots when I have white or gray background (especially when I'm on my computer or watching hockey) from the front I don't see anything but as soon as I'm slightly from the side it is quite visible. Is this normal? For the price what I paid I'm a little disappointed, should I ask for an exchange? THANKS
Just ordered this today. U7k looks really poor in comparison. Was considering qn95c or X95l. Prefered the qn95c slim design. But qn95c seems too vivid and contrasty. Prefered the x95L look.
@@tonhuytran all I can say is I bought my 85X95K about a month ago and couldn't be happier. I watched godzilla-1 last night with subtitles and seen NO blooming around the text. Coming from a 77inch c1 oled it was a difficult choice going back to (mini) led, but I won't ever look back.

What size Sony X95L is this? It looks like a 65", but I thought that they didn't sell the 65" in the US or Canada? Hopefully Sony will release different sizes new year, and hopefully they display the same images no matter what size.
Me too. Let's hope this becomes the follow-up to the Z9K Master Series in 2024. So we can at least get that in 75". If not, then I'm going to be really salty.
Yes, the Sony X95L TV in HDR will flash when subtitles are on. This is because the TV is using a technique called "dynamic tone mapping" to improve the contrast of the picture in HDR mode. When subtitles are on, they can appear very bright against the dark background of the scene, which can cause the TV to flash. There are a few things you can do to reduce the flashing. First, you can try turning off the dynamic tone mapping. This will make the picture look a little less bright, but it should also reduce the flashing. You can also try using a different subtitle font or size. Some fonts are more likely to flash than others.
Can anyone help? I just bought the x95l but confused as to what soundbar to buy. Should I buy a Sony soundbar as it works with the tvs speakers or a different one and if so which one? Be great to hear from someone who was in the same situation if possible 😅 Thanks!

Yes, that is correct. HDR Auto tonemapping is a feature that is exclusive to the PS5. It is not available on any other console, including the Xbox Series X/S. HDR Auto tonemapping is a feature that automatically adjusts the HDR settings of a game to match the capabilities of your TV. This can help to improve the picture quality of HDR games, especially on TVs that do not have the same HDR capabilities as high-end models. Some people have criticized HDR Auto tonemapping for not being available on other consoles, but Sony has defended the decision, saying that the feature is still in development and that they want to make sure it works as well as possible before releasing it to other platforms.
@@trendyprojectors4743 Thank you. Ye Ive noticed that Sony is still a little in the early days when it comes to gaming with their tvs. I'll wait and see next year if things get cleaned out. Because its not only that but also the fact you have to manualy switch HDMI modes for Dolby vision and VRR, they only have 1 gaming picture preset and input lag is good but could be better. So I'll wait and hope they improve on their next year's models

@@RTINGSdotcom, of course. Just confirms my final choice of a new TV. I was going to buy the new Sony 77 inch A95L OLED. But after comparing the two I decided for my personal usage, the X95L was the better choice. A bigger screen for less money with near OLED results 👀🙏. Thanks for your reviews 😎
The Sony A95L's ethernet port is capped at 100 Mbps. This is a limitation of the A95L's hardware, and there is no way to upgrade it to support Gigabit or multi-gigabit Ethernet. If you need a TV with a Gigabit or multi-gigabit Ethernet port, you will need to consider a different model. The Sony X95L is a good option, as it has a Gigabit Ethernet port.

I do NOT think SONY X95L come in 65 or 75” . U either get Hisense U8K (competing with SONY X95L) , TCL Qm8, or Samsung QN95C. Even SHARP Aquos (first time launch in North America last 8 yrs, Aquos is their flagship Japanese made in Japan original LED king). The SHARP XLED. They all have in 65”. I will take U8K or Sharp XLED (i have had both of their most premium panels). I cant do sony. Samsung doesnt do dobey vision in some contents.
@@birdtj82depends what country you are in. Some countries have more sizes for X95L but didn’t get the X93L. It seems to be that the countries that got more sizes in the X95L get less sizes in the Bravia 9, with the X95L remaining in the other sizes to fill the gap. It’s kind of annoying because I wanted to get a discounted 65” X95L now that the Bravia 9 is out but they aren’t really discounted because there is no 65” Bravia 9 here.

The Sony X95L, LG U8K, and Samsung QN90C are all excellent TVs, and the best choice for you will depend on your individual needs and preferences. The Sony X95L is known for its excellent picture quality, thanks to its Cognitive Processor X1 Ultimate. It also has a very wide viewing angle, so it looks great even if you're not sitting directly in front of it. However, it is the most expensive of the three TVs. The LG U8K is a good all-around TV that offers good picture quality and a wide range of features. It also has a very thin design, which makes it a good choice for wall-mounting. However, it does not have as good picture quality as the Sony X95L. The Samsung QN90C is the best choice for gamers, thanks to its low input lag and support for VRR. It also has a very bright picture, which makes it a good choice for watching HDR content. However, it does not have as good viewing angles as the LG U8K.
@@trendyprojectors4743 thank you that's very helpful. I'm pretty I'm going for the x95l. Do you have any knowledge on soundbars? I have a medium sized living room and thinking of the hta3000 but not sure if it's worth the step up to the hta5000.
Having the HDMI 2.1 port also be eARC really outta stop being a downside, anyone who cares enough to get such a great TV should also care about a great sound system, which means they would have a modern receiver with HDMI 2.1 passthrough with support for gaming features like VRR. You're gonna get 4 HDMI 2.1 inputs on the receiver anyways, use that as your HDMI switch + surround sound amplifier
As much as I use Rtings scores to compare TVs, it just goes to show you can’t take them at face value. Compare the X95L to the Hisense U8K, for example, and it is a mixed usage of 8.6 vs 8.5 respectively. There are about 3 main areas where the Sony truly surpasses, but otherwise they are very similarly scored. If you just took these scores at face value, then one would wonder why on earth the Sony is asking a $2,000+ premium. I know I am.
@@trumpameri1638 LG OLEDs are a mature consumer product with many years more of producing OLEDs for consumer products with a vast and improving production line. To buy a OLED from them seems like an obvious choice and to buy their higher end set G3 seems like a good option backed by reviewers who know TV's for best overall if you have the money. Perhaps if Samsung would publish average hours of use their panels have been tested before major failure/panel degradation for OLEDs consumers could see what makes since for what kind of content you intend to watch and base decision but like most companies unwillingness to publish its usually because they still have to many manufacturing differences in samples that they cant determine a fair expectation of life cycles.
@@trumpameri1638 Kind of funny to say LG is too expensive as they have year after year been the one company to make the OLED technology for consumers cheaper and more variety of screen sizes year after year through manufacturing improvement and investment with the longest run of producing for consumer tv's with the technology consecutively. Sure you can go cheaper roots but an LG OLED is the manufacture of OLEDs for best overall performance in each category with a very mature product that every year improves.
Those SEVER BLOOMING, like SKIP, run, like do NOT get those . Worse over priced . It’s like u go to stake house pay over priced Mac n Cheese. U are not going to get much.
The point is: Ok, it's not as good as an OLED, but it is stronger and more durable? Does it need less care than an OLED? If so, I prefer this one. You could say something along these lines in the review.
While OLED TVs offer superior picture quality, they are also more susceptible to burn-in and require more careful handling. If you prioritize durability and ease of use, the Sony X95L is a great alternative. Its mini-LED technology delivers excellent picture quality and brightness, while its robust construction can withstand more wear and tear. Additionally, it doesn't require the same level of attention to detail as an OLED, making it a more practical choice for everyday use.
Interesting product... also nice I/O set: we've given you plenty of choice, as long as it is HDMI. As an historical SONY user I dearly miss the quality of the 80 and 90s. I am starting to question what the resale value of this set would be in 10 years from now. I buy 32 inch Full HD TV sets for 25 to 50 bucks, units that have HDMI, component, composite, RCA, SCART... and this just got a bunch of HDMI. I am guessing this is going to cost 10 or 20 at most.
This unit, along with all of Sony's current and previous offerings, support RCA in through the 3.5mm jack in the back. You just need to purchase a composite RCA to 3.5mm adapter. I currently own a X90K and use it every once in a while with my old VCR.
Please refer to the following if it may help: Yes, there is an option in the Sony X95L TV to adjust the screen size. This feature was introduced by Sony at their 2023 TV presentation and allows users to customize the viewing experience to their liking. There are several different screen size options available, including Full Screen, Zoom, and Normal. The Full Screen option will fill the entire screen with the image, while the Zoom option will enlarge the image so that it takes up more of the screen. The Normal option will display the image at its original size.
@@PopcornChicken lol. They didn't review the 85" X95K, but ok! Lol. Are you always this angry making comments on videos of TVs you can't afford? Yikes. Get outside, it'll do you some good. 😂
@@PopcornChicken that's right, delete your comment. 🤣 lol. If you were bright, you would know the X93L is using the worse panels from the 65 and 75" sizes and not the panel from the 85" X95K which was refined with the X95L. Apparently you have difficulty with reading comprehension as I said the performance is NEARLY identical. Of course the 85" X95L performs slightly better, it has a few more dimming zones and slightly better contrast. You're never going to impress people who actually own these TVs with your ignorant comments. Lol.
Market demand. One possibility is that Sony does not believe there is enough market demand for 65 and 75 inch models of the A95L in North America. Consumers may be more interested in smaller OLED TVs, or they may not be willing to pay the premium price for a larger model. Production costs. Another possibility is that it is too expensive for Sony to produce 65 and 75 inch models of the A95L in North America. The larger panels may require more expensive materials and manufacturing processes. Competition. Finally, it is also possible that Sony is simply not competitive in the North American market for 65 and 75 inch OLED TVs. Other companies, such as LG and Samsung, offer a wider range of OLED TVs in these sizes, and they may be able to undercut Sony on price.
Sony themselves have said since the beginning that the X95L is not a replacement to the X95K. It is its own new TV. The X93L is the replacement to last year's X95K. I know you would think the 95 replaces the 95 but nope...and not sure TV reviewers keep saying that.

Both the Z9k and the X95L are top-of-the-line TVs from Sony, but there are some key differences between the two models. The Z9k is Sony's flagship 8K TV, while the X95L is their flagship 4K TV. The 8K resolution of the Z9k provides sharper and more detailed images than the 4K resolution of the X95L. However, 8K content is still relatively rare, so you may not need the extra resolution unless you have a large TV or you plan to watch a lot of 8K content in the future. Another key difference between the two models is the type of panel they use. The Z9k uses a Mini LED panel, while the X95L uses a regular LED panel. Mini LED panels have smaller LEDs than regular LED panels, which allows for more precise control of the backlight. This can result in better contrast and more accurate colors.
@trendyprojectors4743 Both TVs are Back-lit Mini led with VA panels. Both TVs have X-Wide Angle and XR- Backlight Master Drive, which gives them equal wide angle view. Basically they're almost same except for the pixel density and resolution.
Sry but I think the 1440p thing is pure nonsense. Just turn on GPU scaling in Nvidia or AMD driver settings and you can select 1440p or any other resolution that you want, custom resolutions work too.
Not ideal for PC gamers? Well that would entirely depend on what resolution you play on. I play at 4K with a 4090. 1440p will never grace my play time. Only in DLSS quality but that is still output into 4K. Also otherwise most if not almost all games today have a resolution slider. So if not DLSS or FSR you can lower the in game resolution rendering to 66% which = 1440p render and out put it again at 4K. It has VRR, and excellent look in PC gaming because unlike most TVs Sony still allow almost all processing except some part. Local dimming is just as effective in Game mode as in outside of it. Can't get that on a Samsung. So Rtings. You don't know what you're saying at times. Don't make a blanket "con" like that. But say for "SOME PC gamers".
