Smaller RU-vidrs tend to review Sony phones more favorable. Obviously because they aren't sent a review sample or they actually take their time with the device or like in this case they fall into the target demographic.
Im really curious about the overheating. It's interesting to hear that you didn't experience any overheating after a day like that. The overheating reports almost made me cancel my preorder. I guess I'll just wait until I get it myself to test it. Aside from the potential overheating I think this phone is perfect.
I've had my 1iv for over 2 months now. I've had no overheating issues. Disclaimer: i also only shoot for no longer than 2 or 3mins at a time. I don't try to push it to it's limits to see when it overheats either.
@@marinac7676 Lucky them. I got one and just was overheating after 2 minutes of recording, and when I say overheating is not just warm, literally you could not touch the phone and the screen stopped working. So might be there is some batches of defective hardware going around or some patches that rolled out to other regions of the world? Which countries your 20 friends got this phone? Cheers!.
Honestly surprised to hear the phone didn't overheat and had so much battery left after shooting in 4k 120. Because that's the one thing tech blogs have highlighted the most since the announcement. But I have this phone on pre-order right now, kinda excited but also kinda concerned about the battery life and overheating
I've also preordered it and it's due to arrive next week. I was also considering getting S22U, but after hearing horror stories about new Exynos thermal and battery performance, I've decided to get Snapdragon device. Price was very good - I've paid 1230USD (converted) before taxes and got WH1000XM4 for free!
I am concerned about the thermals and the overheating... That's the only thing that keeps me from buying it.. Also lurking for a better price. Enjoy it man! And waiting for your review please!
Update, I cancelled my pre-order couple of weeks ago. No reviewers online talks about the over heating issue, but there's too many user reports that says there's overheating issue. Even a software update doesn't completely mitigate the issue. And for 1700 USD, I don't find it worth getting a phone where the battery life severely deteriorates from Day 1 due to so much heat generation. I'm avoiding the SD 8 Gen 1 chip in general.
@@jdlyw1692 Strong and wise décision :-) I got the last update mine still overheats just launching the camera apps not even recording or shooting They need some serious software optimization .i did not pays full Price luckily Mine is the european 256Go model
I might get this for it's 4k 120fps video shoot even though I am using it's predecessor the Xperia 1 III. Right now, the main usage of my Xperia III is acting as an external display for my camera with its 4k OLED HD display.
Dayum...no overheating and at 62% after all that....Amazing. Truly stellar job they've done with this! Beautifully shot scenes from both by the way, I love how you framed everything and also the grading is superb. Thanks for such a solid in-depth review on the camera capabilities of the 1 IV. I mean of course the A1 being the A1, shots from it will naturally look fantastic but I gotta say the 1 IV held up incredibly well for what it is - a smartphone. I also liked how you put the pricing in perspective by mentioning how cost-effective a bundle it is for aspiring videographers/filmmakers/photography enthusiasts.
Ty bro I love shooting videos without editing And i was planning to buy a7siii just for 120fps 4k, so can i go for xp iv instead of wasting 3.5k for sony A7siii?
The A7Siii is going to have superior Dynamic Range which will help lead to overall better image quality, but if you're looking to shoot 120fps 4K without need to edit and you don't want to also invest in a lot of lenses, the 4K 120fps on the Xperia blew us away! It's a great option.
I'm so psyched for this phone, have the 1 ii atm. Question is, what gimbal to buy wish Sony made a case for proper Nd filter fitting eg a case where you can slide Nd I'm to to cover the lenses without a massive 37mm filter clip.
There's an amazing video that uses what I believe is a crane gimbal with an nd filter attached to it, unreal result from this phone. The video is from James Matthews "This Camera is Game Changing" . . . link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-T1j_vNOK5Ss.html
Nice review but, there seems to be a problem with overheating on the Xperia 1V and it shutting down especially on hotter days of plus 30c,just hope Sony can fix this with a software update because this is a brilliant piece of kit.
You didn't mention any bitrate between the two cameras. Also, how did you compare the videos? The overall quality seems pretty good and as often the case with phones, is not very tangible the difference, but, in terms of details? Can you zoom in the video? Can you extract frames from the video? Can you crop etc?
How good are the sides of this phone!? Clean. Build quality is a huge priority for me personally. I hate plasticky devices and ugly deformed camera bumps. They improved the matte finish on this one and it's solid now 👌
@@arshdeepsinghpannu5 that's a good point! How often we use our devices but change our clothes. It should be personal. Not soo generic that we want to trade-in every year. Least the Japanese know what they're doing..
Fantastic video and great shots to show what phone can do. That being said you mention it did not overheat at all, why do you think that is, or why is widely reported that phone overheats massively very quick? Cheers
Thanks for the kind words! As for overheating, we can only speak towards our experience with the model we had. Shooting all day, on very hot day, we didn't get any overheating warnings. Obviously this is a very small sample size, and others have tested their models more stringently in this department. Hope this helps!
Lol! The intro is mostly shot on the Xperia 1 IV with the exception of the split screen shots with show both the Sony A1 and Xperia. Highly recommend getting into learning no matter what gear you use. It's extremely satisfying.
Because most of them don't bother going into manual setting and keep saying they prefer easy point and shoot phone cameras instead of setting up manual shooting
I would say that they hit the audience in another way than someone that is really focused on photography, those two phones got better and more helpful software that makes it a more ideal setup for most people lets be honest here. I do think the Xperia doesnt get a fair review by a majority of content creators but they do highlight some of the issues the phone has which is also ignored by the once that is more leaned towards the phone. I do think you can get some great images with the Xperia but I also believe that if you put a S22 Ultra and an Xperia 1 IV in the hands of a normal consumer and tells them to go and take 100 photos with each the overall quality will be way higher on the s22 ultra since the phone does all the work for you its basiclly very easy mode while Xperia is hard mode to get ideal photos you need to setup and alot of photos during each day is impulsive when you see something you want a photo on. Personally I've choosen to look at specific areas like macro shots and night time the Xperia doesnt really handle well at all, notice how this review didnt shoot anything outdoors during nights or completely avoided going into macro mode and really close up photos. Thats because he knows the limitation on those areas. With the S22 Ultra or Iphone 13 Pro Max you get what you see, with Xperia the quality will differ alot more and sad to say most people won't be able to get photos like we see in reviews made by people who works with photography on a daily basis.
Both very good options, however, for creators--the Pro-I is more geared toward photography, while the 1 IV brings more to offer for creators. So, depending on your medium, you can keep that in mind.
Every other reviewer is saying about overheating. you are the only one saying otherwise. Did u have any updates pushed to the phone before this test or the phone is on stock firmware ??
I mean..at the end of the day it IS a phone lol. It won't ever replace a proper camera, but it's still a solid portable addition to any photography/video enthusiast's stash. The comparison just showcases how far smartphone cameras have come. At least in some areas, even if from a distance, the image quality looks comparable..which was unimaginable back in the day.
Give me us carrier support again... I bought 2 Experia z3v's carried them for 4 years.... I want this phone... But no carrier will sell me one. ( I have to buy 2 so financing is a must)
can try do a comparison at night or those dim light to see xperia mark iv vs sony a1 i know will be a unfair comparison but will be interesting to see the result
while i agree that phones has come along way its not about whos the best its about taking a good photo just like a tesla and a lada both have wheels they get there its not about who is the fastest
If I buy a phone mainly for shooting video and take pic, I will defnately buy another phone for daily use. If that is the case I would rather just buy something like zv1. And I am more interested to see how it compare to zv1.I think more people are torn between whether should buy a high end phone or buy a dedlicated small camera like zv1.
I have zv1 and just ordered this phone. I got to match with my zv1 shots, I dont always like pulling a camera out, this way i can just get the phone and everything will hopefully match.
Cinema Pro uses H.265 only. Sony uses HLG. I suppose bitrates are same of mark 3, which were 55Mbps (4K@30), 90Mbps (4K@60) and 120Mbps (4K@120). Last year's Pro-i had higher bitrates than 1iii. With 4K@120 at 150Mbps. For example the 8K of samsung phones is 80Mbps.

I feel like the 4k 24fpps 5min57s in looks like utter shit tbh, the fact you don't fully show the video, or show more examples suggests you think the same regardless of what you said? I like the look of the phone but issues like having fixed focal lengths inside each lens and the 24fps not looking amazing is offputting considering the price
Do you know if Sony updated the ability to shoot in RAW while in BURST mode for the photo pro app? I have the Xperia 5ii it will only shoot jpeg while in BURST mode...😢
Hello, it doesn't have your traditional S-Log profiles like other Sony mirrorless cameras, but on the Cinema-Pro app it does have various other profiles such as Venice CS.
Sony marketing team is best than its quality and reliability, I am owning Sony expera 1 iii. it gets hot and shut down the camera app, due to over heating. Maximum 2 minutes outdoor 4k video shoot with the phone, the camera shut down due to overheating issues. Reality hurts,
Not very far, since smartphone sensors are still the same small size... Everyone who uses their brain knows it's more about "using make-up" to improve phone footage. Until they don't change the sensors, we will only see tiny and marginal improvements.
Was this video sponsored by Sony at all? Man I hope one day Sony make attachable lenses for the phones that only fit Xperia devices. Also shout-out to the T* coating as apparently this is one of the defining features for clarity apposed to plastic on every other phone. I won't buy a phone without it now.
Why sony isnt just put the reverse engineering on their smartphone, like.. make a profesional mirrorless with phone form factor and give them android os. Why 🤣
