Juan Bagnell (SomeGadgetGuy) saw this coming. He has a somewhat tight relationship with Sony's American PR team, and wrote a blog post a couple weeks ago saying that he had heard absolutely nothing from them, which never had happened before this close to launch -- except, tellingly, for the Xperia 5 V last year.

If this continues then in the coming years sony will launch Xperia phones for limited cities of Japan only, forget the international markets.

It's all down to demographics, IMPORT Tax, and Freebies, high tax and then costly freebies , or you can sell in a market low tax and cheaper freebies, = bigger profits for quantities of said products, yes you can order this phone from Japan or Europe but that's going to cost you $300+ more and sorry this Sony phone is already over priced before you add that amount of money to it,

They fucked over USA? Or alternative thinking would be..... Sony loses way more in the USA because import tax, more discounts wanted by the public, and higher priced freebies too, for to long Americans have been getting things cheaper than the rest of the world, can you see the tides are turning, you sell in countries that give you better returns on profits, America is not that place

Do Sony... NOT want to sell some of the best phones out there? Are they actually right in the head? 🤔 I mean... Things like:- - Announcing a 'Brand new' phone model, but NOT making available to buy for up to 6 months later... - Having some EXCELLENT hardware, but providing DISMAL OS/Security update life... - Said excellent hardware having FAR TOO COMPLICATED multiple camera app systems... - SERIOUSLY HEFTY price tags... And more issues besides... Sony phones COULD rise to become some of the most popular phones 'Out in the field' to rival the likes of Apple and Samsungs' offerings... IF ONLY they corrected the above issues (and a couple of others), and they COULD do it as they have what? 3 phone models (not like Samsung with their extensive A and S range phones)... Let us buy the phones SOON after announcing them, DROP the price to UNDER the 'Equivalent' Samsung, give them AT LEAST 4 years OS and a further 1 year Security update system, then, yeah, I'm pretty sure, they'll sell A LOT MORE of these phones so MORE people can enjoy such things as the great screens and FRONT FIRING PROPER STEREO loud speakers that DO make a difference in viewing content (I remember the days of my Motorola Google Nexus 6! Lots of people though also nowadays buy directly online (Samsung/Google/OnePlus...). Especially with better trade-in and other loyalty programs. @@OHHHHUSBANT well, I'm not from China as well so I can't give you the right answer, while depending on lots of Chinese reviews video, it seems like because of software. Since Google service is banned there, which means you need to either create your own system, or cooperate with some other local brand.what Sony did is cooperate with Mezu, but still like the service wasn't that completed compared to other local like Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, etc. Another reason is Xperia is really lacking "post photo processing" which means you will get a natural pic, but looks a bit "pure" compared to other brands phones. That's not a problem for photographers, but it would be hard for the people who never go for photo editing.

Have been reading a lot of posts on reddit and XDA, which showed that people were able to import the 1V International and EU version to the states and get it working by replacing some modem files. If the modem is the same, the same 1V files may work on the 1VI. The interesting thing I saw on an older XDAforums post was that people in the states got band n71 which was not listed on any compatability website. Someone said on reddit that that may be because it's cheaper to manufacture just one part, but because of tax/tariffs software lock the bands to the various regions. I hope that is the case with this phone and that the 1V files work, because I really want to replace my 5 year old phone with the 1VI.
@luc7976
@luc7976 Месяц назад
The 1V is sold in the US and it has n71 (typically used by T-Mobile for extended range on 4G). So I'd rather go that route since not sure upgrades are worth $1400. Saves you $200. Also most 4G channels will work with international models, but each US carrier requires certifications so if that model isn't certified and listed, it won't be able to use all (5G) channels. n71 has been supported for US models and that might require some fw files for an international version to enable. But sounds too much hassle to be honest for that price.

These are not “reviews” but businesses. The bad part is that they have no expertise in nothing. To have a device with 2 days of battery, the best camera on a phone (by far) with the best AF (the only AF which deserves this name), the best audio components, no notch, pure design, lightweight, true stereo speakers - to get all this in a phone and say bad things about it… is really ridiculous. I'll say this: as much as I'm a fan of Sony(I have a PS4, Sony camera, and have owned a Sony phone in the past), when it comes to phones they are one of the most unaware manufacturers ever. I'm convinced that they care more about making a phone than selling it. They're like that one girl at the school dance who only had a few boys that like her personality and want to dance with her but she refused and wants to hold out for the popular jock at the school. Just be happy with the guys that wanna dance with you. The three key areas they screwed up in (and one out of the three is justifiable in my opinion for what you get in return) are the screen resolution, price and market availability. I give a pass for the screen resolution because you absolutely make up for it in battery life. If I can go out and shoot all day and not have to worry about finding a charger I'm a satisfied user. The price is just too high to be more attractive than the competition knowing that you're not even going to get the most class leading camera hardware and image quality (although it's arguably among the top if you prefer a more realistic image). Now no US availability and an added cost to import the phone over.smh If I have the means, I may support Sony this one last time and keep this phone in my collection and move on.but dang Sony, get a grip.

I think the 1080p thing was the downgrade needed to keep the price steady while justifying the rest of the upgrades. In my personal opinion I don't see the big deal, I get that it makes little sense for a previous gen flagship owner but at the same time every time Sony launches a phone there's a swarm of people who own the previous flagship saying they won't upgrade, so I don't see the big deal with this change besides panicking over something that won't really impact anyone. The screen is brighter, ltpo and a newer OLED that fixed the green tint of the old screens in dark areas, I think all of that should be given more attention than losing a nearly imperceptible feature that most people agreed just ate up power in the first place.

Given the Samsung S24 Ultra has all of that for even more, it's always been a tough argument for me. And Samsung phones are available globally and they do offer incentives or markdowns sometimes to offset their high price. At $1300 or $1400 1080p is just going to be a tough sell or pill for most people to swallow. But since Sony doesn't offer much in a way for most people to even buy their phones, much less produce many anyway, I guess it really doesn't matter. They'll sell what they sell and simply decide if they want to keep going next year.

A flagship phone means it is supposed to be the best that the company has to offer. 1080p would be good for their mid range or their compact 5 series, not a flagship when we know Sony is capable of doing better. The Ltpo tech is awesome and helps conserve more battery, but we know they could have done atleast 1440p like other companies. People are disappointed because they are slapping on a 1080p screen and expecting people to pay for flagship phone prices.

With its 6" Quad HD display and front firing stereo speaker set up... I miss those days.. What do we have now? Mid to tinny left earpiece speaker and full range but firing away from you bottom right speaker... 😒 As Michael Fisher (MrMobile) says - "When phones were fun".. 😏 😎🇬🇧

idk why people cry about it, first reviews shows that this screen is amazing and it is the best screen yet in sony phones, it is very bright compared to other sony phones , variable refresh in first test shows 15-120 hz, so it is weird that it doesn't go all the way to 1hz but that's probably will be fixed with first update

In 2021 I finally got a phone without a headphone jack, and I hate it. Not only that, but no expandable storage makes most modern phones so goddamn useless for long term use. I was looking forward to this release, and was prepared to fork over the cost for it assuming it had all the features I wanted. The problem for me is, I would get something else but I don't want a downgrade. I don't want a phone with a slower, lesser SoC and 60hz IPS display. I want a phone with an HDR capable adaptive 120hz OLED, and at least a modern SoC, and most phones that offer the features I'm looking for are complete garbage. It's so frustrating, phones used to really be a full package deal but now you're paying more and more every year for fewer features? Wtf. I guess I gotta look into Motorola or something. Idk what phone has anywhere near the same features that won't be a downgrade.

I still think they should ditch the variable zoom and just put in a good 120hz phone. en lo personal aplaudo que cambien el panel 4k ya que era totalmente inutil, pero deberia haberse reflejado en el precio!! y que bueno que mejoren el zoom ya que en el 1V era terrible, una verguenza cuando lo comparabas con cualquier samsung

I love the 21:9 4k makes the phone unique from competitors. I hate that Sony wants to ditch that. In terms of selling phones I understand it but the unique factor is lost now with the Xperia 1 line of phones becoming just like everyone else. Sony clearly listened to Marques Brownlee's advice to make a flagship phone geared towards the general masses, but us longtime fans of the Xperia 1 line of phones want an upgraded over engineered Xperia 1 that us longtime enthusiasts have come to love and will purchase with 21:9 4k, notification light, and better one handed software mode usage. Just my take on this.

Good lord I hate that. Everytime I wanted to swap a micro sd, the phone restarted. And the frequent autofocus hunting and freezing made me question is this even a Japanese product. I've been waiting for the 1VI for SO LONG. Now... I'm probably going to go with the S24 Ultra or, yeah, hold out for the Pixel 9 Pro (I had a Pixel 2 XL before my 1ii). I was into the Xperia phones for things like the notification LED, SD card reader and MAINLY, the SPEAKERS. I've had dual front facing speakers since my HTC One M7. It breaks my heart that I'm going to have to give those up. This 1080p display doesn't bother me, the Bravia engine always makes displays look good, but the fact that the 1vi isn't coming to the US, and is missing certain bands for my carrier, when I've been suffering with that problem with my 1ii for years, only to get what we got this year... I can't justify paying that much for a phone, just for the speakers anymore. So, the 1ii was my first and last Sony phone. Goodbye Xperia. I hardly knew you.

@Josh-The-Goat

I blame this all on two things: Carriers and Uneducated Consumers. Most people still "upgrade/buy" their phones through carriers. If a US carrier doesn't support or push a brand in the US it ultimately will not do very well. This is very sad news, I was interested in getting one. I had the IV and V and was overall happy with them. They had their heating issues which ultimately caused me to sell them and were a bit big for my liking. The VI seems like it's finally got everything right! Minus the price! 😂 Depending on the frequency bands it has, maybe I'll grab one when the price comes down some.

It should work with 4G but you will very likely not get 5G and less coverage in some areas since band 71 likely won't be enabled on the international version. Using Samsung pro mode is actually fairly close to Sony image processing and zoom cameras are sharper. Only downside is you can't switch lenses during video recording in pro mode. You can also still buy the older 1 V but at $1200 very pricey and Samsung has much longer sw updates with trade-in deals.

I can't blame Sony for not releasing in the US as the iPhone became too much of a status symbol. In Europe, nobody cares about which phone brand you use. People focus on what the phone is offering. On the other hand it's sad for you and the fellows in the comment section...

The more I think about, the more I like the Xperia 1 VI. I'm still definitely on the fence about the different aspect ratio and the lower resolution, but in real use I'm not sure how much I would really notice. I've used both 20:9 and 21:9 aspect ratio phones, and the difference isn't too big (unless, I imagine, you specifically watch a lot of 21:9 content on your phone, which I don't). I also feel like the display being a lower resolution feels cheaper than what it actually is; realistically, the overwhelming majority of people won't notice a single difference between 643 ppi and 396 ppi. I once viewed a 4K picture on a 4K phone versus a 1080p one, and I found the difference to be extremely small (unless I did something wrong and somehow it didn't trigger the 4K resolution on the phone? I'm not sure how to check that). My PC monitor doesn't even have 100 ppi and still looks plenty sharp, I only notice pixels if I get really close to the screen. So aside from the different aspect ratio and lower resolution, the 1 VI improves a lot of things compared to the 1 V: - Even brighter screen - Better cameras and easier to use for most people - Better speakers - Longer software support - World-class battery life I currently use a 1 V, so have no plans on upgrading to the 1 VI, but it's definitely interesting to see what Sony might do for their next phone. If I could change anything, it would obviously be the display resolution and the aspect ratio, but those two things alone are likely not enough to outweigh the improvements

Well this is surprising. It's a huge market to lose. Could it be that Sony is fed up with the carrier related issues in the US? From what I understand in the USA most people get their phones through their mobile service provider, and those providers have unrealistic demands on phone manufacturers. I remember reading back then that Nokia actually had to omit certain features from particular phones because of carrier demands, which sounded insane to me, but things might still be just as bad there?

Well when they say US they don't necessarily mean just US carriers. So the places you actually can buy them will start to dry up too, which Adam kind of alluded to.
@kosztaz87
@kosztaz87 Месяц назад
@@artdogg50 I understand that. What I mean is because carriers probably refuse to offer these phones, Sony made the calculations, and decided that it's not worth it for them to offer and support these phones in the US. They have the stats, so they know how many they sell there without carrier support. And I think those numbers simply make it not economical to build out the repair and support infrastructure for their phones there, so they simply not offer them. Again I am just speculating, but what other reason could be to lose such a huge country like the USA?
