Your observations from your original video are still valid, you provided footage from actually using the camera on your first video. You can notice other things the longer you use any camera, or not notice at all because your use is different from others. You did a great job!
I personally felt that your original video was overly positive and felt more like a commercial to appease the Sony overlords for future early access to cameras. This video on the other hand is exactly what that video should have been. A realistic review with the positive AND negative aspects of the camera. A review instead of a sales piece. This is really what people need when making a $500 decision on a camera. Thank you for making this! Keep up the great work.
I was excited after seeing the first video Sony ZV-1F looked like a good camera for my plans, not with the follow-up, I realized I need to save my money for a better camera. You did a great job with both reviews. You made your original assessment and now you followed up with a more thorough review later. Thank you for all your work, it really helps me make my decsions.
I didn’t watch your other video. The impression I’m getting by those making those criticisms just like finding thing to complain about. They’re not taking into account those things you are. You have the correct perspective of who this camera is designed for. Those people making comments of this cameras short comings want to get all those other feature at every price point, or for a cheaper price, then they can forego the pricier models for the cheaper one. You gave an honest and unbiased assessment of this product. Now if it doesn’t please everyone that’s on them or their demands are in excess for what this camera is and does. A beginner or secondary camera.
Thank you for this. I'm sold on this camera. I only have the ZV1. I'm not a fan of putting the ulanzi lens on it, or running the footage through catalyst browse to achieve good image stabilization. The stabilization looks more then fine to me, and there's always the Gopros if you need crazy good image stabilization. I like how you were fair in this comparison, other videos just talked about how the stabilization isn't good. Great video!
Bought mine for video & vlogging and was blown away with the exceptional pictures that I just took while at a waterfall when I easily put in shutter mode speed to 40 the results...simply dream like, also pictures of wild yellow flowers of some kind. the dog looks like you can pet him and the selfies would have been a lot better if I were handsome. (joke) actually they were great. havent even tried skin softening yet. the extra easy slow mo is amazing and transferring to cell phone after downloading the app is a breeze. knowing that I will never damage the lens from accidentally turning it on in my pocket is a great comfort and with lens cap and screen turned around to protect the back and its a great camera for camping hunting and hiking or general carry in your purse or bag every day carry use. when your annoyed with the thought of bringing your high dollar gear this will be your best friend and with the wrist strap on its what I call a cell phone saver. Do Not Hesitate just buy it, use it and certainly your gonna love your new companion. ZV-1F forever - forever ZV-1F

I think both your videos are great. I feel like there are so many videos out there that are overly positive and "commercial" and I don't think your video was at all. If anything, I think your videos are BETTER at showing how this camera can be used by a day-to-day vlogger or beginner whereas other videos are all about specs, tech, and gear nonsense. I agree with everything you said, as much as it's not perfect, it's mainly a vlogging camera for beginners which this camera will suffice.
The thing that keeps this camera from being usable for vlogging is its stabilizer. If you compare this to either DJI or GoPro, it doesn't even come close, as you know. Vlogging requires a lot of movement from the user, which can easily push the limits of any camera without an effective stabilizer, unless you use a gimbal. True, the action cams have smaller sensors, which are easier to stabilize, but they cannot match the image quality of a 1" sensor. In other words, tradeoffs have to be made.
Very fair points. I agree 100% about stabilization being better on action cameras, and there is some crossover in use cases, but overall 2 very different camera types.
I have done a lot more research on this camera today and I think I am definitely going to get it especially as a start up camera I vlogg and I use my iPhone 13 Pro Max ,later on down the line I can upgrade and I feel at that point they will have upgraded the Sony zv1 so I’ll start with the zv1f I like how this video was really detailed and showing actual footage for the camera is really what helped me thanks !
So I'm currently using a Panasonic Lumix LX10 as my vlog camera and the ZV-1F may be my gateway to Sony. AF is still better than Pansonic's depth from defocus, 20mm vs 30mm focal length, unlimited runtime in all modes, USB-C webcam/Clean HDMI capture, and longer battery life. I'd be switching from F1.4 to F2 but for a 1 inch sensor, it's quite negligible compared to mirrorless sensors. Thanks again for the follow up and talking about what this camera is and isn't. Unless a stellar deal brings the ZV-1 down below $699, I think I'd be very happy with the ZV-1F!
Thanks for sharing your perspective. I've never used a Panasonic camera, but from what I hear, the focus is always the main complaint. Pretty sure this will be loads better.

I've learned for talking head that isn't handheld either manually focusing or locking it to a face does help, but it would be refreshing to not have to finagle with hardware to get something that another camera can do well on its own. Just waiting to see when it transitions from pre-orders to releasing and I'll be sure to try my hands on it!
Never apologize about one's opinion as a result of pressure from the masses. Opinions are like noses, everyone has one. Doesn't mean nose A is better than nose B... just different.
Stabilization seems good enough for most cases. Actual 24mm focal length with stab on shouldn't be a big issue if we use a stick. But I'm still not convinced with the price. It's too expensive for these features. Anyway your real field test seems good enough.
A great second video on the ZV1F. I was accidentally given a ZV1F instead of the ZV1,when we made a purchase at Christmas time. That issue has long since been resolved and have the ZV1 now. I found the ZV1F to be lacking in a few areas while I had it for a few days. Auto focus was weak, the lack of any type of appreciated zoom etc. All in all save your money get the ZV1 or at least shop around for alternatives. My feeling with the ZV1F is yes it's a budget camera but after using it for awhile you will be looking for something better in a very short period of time. Just my hands on observation.

im impressed with the stabilization. the advantage of this over a phone is a realistic image quality. without a zoom this is a big no for me. even zv1 zoom isnt enough for me.
4:40 and 6:01 that stabilization for the 1st person vlogging is really good! Paired with the other features you get this is an attractive bundle. The lens should be 20mm, but the frame is still pretty tight on your face. Is your arm fully extended? Also like the audio when you are close to the camera.
I used this for a while, and I find that it is best as a MANUAL EVERYTHING camera.. that auto setting just dont know what it really wants and goes all over the place...

I am using Go Pro Hero 10 as the vlog camera 🤳📷 Go Pro has great stabilization but it works bad in very low light. Even I changed the settings. I think that Sony should be better in low light conditions. Can you recommend some gimbal for that Sony to stabilized the footage? I think then should be perfect camera for vlogging. Of course with the external microphone 🎙️ greetings
Sony is definitely better in low light compared to an action camera. The latest small gimbal I've been loving is the Zhiyun Crane M2S. It adds a bit of extra cost and bulk, but it would easily be able to Stabilize this camera. For mics, the DJI Mic or Rode Wireless Go II ard my favorite Wireless mics, and Rode VideoMic II is my fave directional mic.
I thought your first video was great also. It was an opinion so not sure why people feel the need to critique opinions. Appreciate your insight. I just purchased the ZV-1 and have been planning on switching to the ZV-1F because of touch screen, better menu, USB-C, etc. Still not sure which direction to go. Thx for the input!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ please , evaluate the photos coming out of this camera . Night shots , panoramic , close -ups etc . I understand this is for a Beginner Vlogger . How long can you record in 4 K without overheating ?
I liked the photo quality in low light, but important to note that it can't shoot RAW images. I didn't do overheating tests, but I shot for up to 5 minutes in a single clip and didn't have overheating problems.
Was nice to see a bit more of an exploration of the stabilization, looks close to the real-world GoPro that I have experienced, where you, under certain lighting, have to go pretty slowly and "flat-foot". Not bad, as well it sounds like there is a bit of sony software to do the stabilization in post. It seems like it's pretty geared for no-fuss, straight-from-camera with minimal or no editing or correction if you want.
My question is, would it make a good studio vlogging camera? You see I'm looking at cameras to kind of upgrade the quality of my content instead of shooting on my Android phone. And everything I see says stay away from the Sony, however most of it comes from a vlogging perspective where people are complaining about using it as a camera for actual vlogs where you're walking around outside and kind of showing people stuff as you would in a vlog. My uses on the other hand is for like studio use, I make talking head videos about hi-fi and stereo gear, and I don't really necessarily need image stabilization or anything of the sort because it's going to be mounted on a tripod in front of me while I talk about stuff. My whole goal is to get a camera that is a definite step up in terms of image quality from my Android phone that I'm currently using, and in that regard what do you or other people think
I think talking head videos would be great with this camera, since you don’t need stabilization. It does of course depend on your exact setup and what kind of lighting and FOV you need (keep in mind this camera is fixed lens), but for the price I think it would be a step up from a phone.
I think it is all relative to each creator's experience. I watch all sorts of frustrated users complain about user error, unrealistic expectations or poor QC from the manufacturer. And it's that context where I know you two are legit. Plus I remember you warning us viewers about the goPro hero 9 and if you were shills you would have sent us over that ledge. You two definitely have preferences and a lot of experience with a variety of cameras. It would be interesting if they rotten tomatoes camera review channels. 🤔

I have one and most of the problems I have are: autofocus and its color science which is totally different from any other Sony camera and for the worst because its image looks like straight out of an android phone. I’m not a beginner so it’s not because I don’t know how to use a camera, it just sucks. My GoPro slaps this camera.
I just put my ZV-1 on eBay. The lens is not as wide as the RX100 series true 24mm equivalent (both in photo and video mode). The stabilization in video is much better on the Sony RX100vii. I dislike not having a viewfinder. Good luck filming or taking photos outdoors in daylight. My Rx100vii died, but eventually I will buy it again. Its main issue is that it is very expensive and it sucks in dust. But much better camera than the zv1. The zv1 has the technology and stabilization of the RX100V. If it had a viewfinder, a true 24mm wide lens, and the active intelligent stabilization of the rx100vii, I would like it. Look at the actual focal length printed in the front of the camera. It is 9.1mm vs 8.8mm compared to the rx100 series. Too bad. I feel Sony has been misleading with this, repackaging old tech and cutting too many corners. The ZV-1F takes several steps backward compared to the Zv1
To be fair, the ZV-1F is not meant to be better than the ZV-1. They "cut corners" to keep the cost low. However, I do think it's strange to release an entry level camera before updating the ZV-1. Here's to hoping they have a ZV-2 in the works.
@@Gemini_Connect I thought a fixed 20mm equiv lens could be interesting. But no RAW photos really has no justification. It make a new GoPro better in most cases. The ZV-1 advertises a 24mm equiv lens. But the actual focal length is not as wide as the RX100xx series. It is 26mm equiv without the EIS crop. I like the plastic body, that is an acceptable compromise to cut costs. But no EVF is a real dealbreaker for me. I hope they work on a new 1 inch sensor camera with a viewfinder. If sony would have made the RX100VA with a plastic body and some cut corners, but same lens, viewfinder + a mic input, it would have been a great camera. '
If you own the ZV-1, you've got superior autofocus, stability, image quality, etc. This camera does address some usability issues the ZV-1 had, but overall it's aimed at someone who's only used a smartphone and wants to venture into the Sony compact camera world.
I just preordered a white one. I hope I like it. I need to get back to vlogging, since my other sony died. These comments are not good though. However, the RU-vidrs reviewing it are giving great reviews with great footage, so I hope it lives up to the hype.
This camera is garbage for vlogging IMHO. They should never even come out with this. ZV-1 is a way better vlogging camera minus the focal length. Sony needs to stop messing with vloggers and bring out the ZV-2 with a fixed 18mm Focal length.
have you watched geralds video? as soon as he compared to the output to the iPhone 14 pro, he pretty much concluded the only advantage was low light, and that was with him using the front camera on the iPhone, not even the main sensor...... looking at a product in a vaccum without comparing to the alternative is a little useless imo. this is why gerald has the credibility and views that he does. hint hint nudge nudge
I did watch his video, and I noted a couple of things. First is that he approached it from a technical standpoint and only tested in a handful of scenarios, rather than a wider spectrum of environments as a beginner vlogger would actually use this camera. Second is that he compared a $500 beginner camera to flagship smartphones at higher price points. Of course those phones will perform better. Bottom line, I agree with him in that if you can afford the latest phones, those cameras are superior. But for those looking for a $500 beginner vlogger camera, this is not a bad option.
@@Gemini_Connect you can get similar results from about a $600 phone or you could do the math as buying a phone plus a zvf1 for about the same. It's hard to do mental gymnastics to justify this camera. I'm pretty sure that the number of people that this is the most practical purchase for is just incredibly small.
I did a rough comparison to vlogging on this versus a phone in my earlier video. My phone is currently worth $300, and this camera beats it by a lot in quality. IMO the ergonomics of vlogging on a dedicated camera are better than doing that on a phone. But to avoid dragging this out, you're right that this camera is for a very specific user. How many of them are out there is questionable.
AWESOME content! I'm currently using a goprro Hero 9 to shoot my workouts to share with my Trainer...and also to create instagram reels of my fitness journey (@unfinishedgym). The GoPro drives me nuts with all manner of app connectivity issues, upload glitches.... What mirrorless camera in the sub $1000 range would you recommend for this application (new or used). Typically I have the camera on for 2+ hours though filming only the actual sets. Thanks!!!
