Hi Mark! I purchased the ZV-E10 through your affiliate links and I do love it. It has a better overall image and focus (especially in low-light) than the Pocket 3 which I also own. But, pulling out your ZV-E10 with a gimbal reminds me of the scene with Jim Carrey in the Mask where he pulls those huge guns and calls the thugs (in this case with the Pocket 3) punks. :-) If you're mostly studio and static work, then I would go with the ZV-E10. If you're mostly vlogging and run and gun, the Pocket 3 is the way to go. The ZV-E10 has superior optics, but outdated technology in a lot of ways. The DJI has inferior optics (compared to the ZV-E10 and a good lens) but has some of the most advanced technology out there. The motion timelapses on the DJI are super easy and are absolutely stellar.
Great video as usual! I recently acquired the Pocket 3 and, after thorough testing, I've observed that HLG mode yields a more visually pleasing result compared to D-Log. The key difference lies in the color spaces: HLG utilizes BT.2020, offering more flexibility in color saturation, whereas D-Log is confined to Rec.709, which limits color play and tends to deteriorate rapidly in low light conditions. Consequently, I've decided to primarily use HLG mode. Adapting to Pocket 3 has been a bit of a journey, especially after being accustomed to Sony's ecosystem for the last 15-20 years. In my comparisons between Pocket 3 and the Sony RX100VII, I noticed that the RX100VII, with its SLog3 setting, outperforms Pocket 3 in daylight, offering a superior image quality despite being 8-bit. However, in indoor or night settings, the Pocket 3 significantly surpasses the RX100VII. And one more thing. I am really disappointed that DJI does not have Aperture. Now testing with Variable ND filters and it is no fun to use them. In run-and-gun situations, I would probably should forget about Shutter priority and run it wild up to 1/8000. :)
@@ca_pilot In the realm of color grading, numerous approaches exist, and my expertise is largely shaped by trial-and-error. However, I've distilled my experience into a practical and efficient workflow, particularly within Davinci Resolve's versatile environment. Here's the refined process: 1. Project Settings - Color Management: - Color Science: Opt for 'Davinci YRGB Color Managed'. This setting lays the groundwork for consistent color handling throughout your project. - Color Processing Mode: Choose 'HDR Davinci Wide Gamut Intermediate'. This mode offers a broad color spectrum, crucial for HDR content. - Output Color Space: Set to 'Davinci WG/Intermediate', aligning with the chosen processing mode. - HDR Mastering: Configure for 1000 nits to ensure optimal luminance range. 2. Color Tab Adjustments: - Input Color Space for Clips: Either select 'Same as Timeline' by right-clicking on the clip and choosing 'Input Color Space', or opt for 'Bypass Color Management' to maintain the clip's native profile. 3. Node Configuration: - First Node: Apply noise reduction as needed, though it remains an optional step. - White Balance and Color Adjustment Nodes: Sequentially arrange these nodes post noise reduction. On one of the color adjustment nodes, set the Offset to 12. This adjustment ensures the bottom of the Parade touches the 0 level. Carefully adjust highlights to keep them below 10000, preventing overexposure. 4. Final Node - Color Space Transform: - Settings: Adjust the Input Color Space to Rec.2020 and Input Gamma to Rec.2100 HLG. Set the Output Color Space to Rec.709 and Output Gamma to Gamma 2.4. These settings are crucial for translating your color work into a standard viewing format. - Output Color Flexibility: You can modify the output color to fit specific project requirements beyond the standard Rec. 709 output. 5. Delivery Settings: - Format and Codec: Export in MKV format using the H.265 codec. This combination ensures a balance of quality and file size, with the H.265 offering efficient compression. - Encoding Profile: Choose 'Main10' for enhanced color depth, accommodating a wider color range in your final output. Please note, that first step I ussually was select Automatic Color management from HDR to SDR, but from some videos I found, some RU-vidrs suggested to use Davinci Wide Gamut and do all color tranformation in the very last node. If you want to transform D-Log footage, then Color Transformation Node would be like this: - Settings: Adjust the Input Color Space to Rec.709 and Input Gamma to DJI D-Log. Set the Output Color Space to Rec.709 and Output Gamma to Gamma 2.4.
I also have both, and love both. Took my dji out to a very crowded convention last weekend and it was amazing. I was able to get the creators combo and it's worth every penny!
The creator package comes with dji mice 2 included but the Rode Pro sounds way btter and can aslo be used with Pocket 3. Creator package is a better deal if you do not need 2 mics nor supperor sound quality. Dji mic 2 still sounds good, just not in par with Rode. @@ahmadsenyum9754
I have the Sony, on your recommendation, and been looking at DJI pocket 3. This comparison was brilliant and once available again I will get the creator pack. I do a 50/50 split between office and travel blogs so combining both will be brilliant. Thanks for another great great video that really helps the viewer to consider what will work for them
Great detailed comparison as always! Hard to beat the size of the Pocket 3 but I do prefer the image of the ZV-E10 but I'm not one to carry a whole gimbal set-up especially when traveling and thus why I picked up the Pocket 3.
the DJI pocket 3 is great for recording yourself in situations where you don't want a large camera drawing attention to itself. I've been able to clip it to a music stand, set it in a corner, or on a table to record myself playing gigs, and its just this little narrow candy bar sized thing. Much better than trying to use an iphone in this situation, where you can't even utilize the best cameras without guessing about the footage. Also, the built in mics sounded better than I expected them to! You can also monitor the footage on your phone, and move the camera remotely if you need to :)
Thank You for this amazing comparison! Even though Zve10 is always my favorite, I think the Versatility and Flexibility the Pocket 3 offers is hard to match, and also the IQ out of P3 is quite impressive. Dji really upped the game with this.
I have been one of the people waiting for this comparison! Thank you so much! I’m a cheap sob when it comes to most everything so I do extensive RU-vid research and your channel is by far the best for cameras. I’ve been dabbling with homesteading content outside and I’ve come to the conclusion the smaller and easier to use dji is the way to go for me. I especially enjoy the tracking feature so I can run around and do stuff with the animals and not have to constantly reposition. If anything the price for all of the zv e10 accessories I’d rather have 2 DJI’s set up tracking me from different perspectives! (I will admit the zv does look better though) Great video and thank you again!
I've been going back and forth on which of these to buy for a bit now. I just really like that seperation you can get with the Sony, and I want the focus of my quality to be in my studio videos vs my occasional vlogs. So thank you for this!
Thought both looked good @handsome alley, and if you want to walk around in rail-yards the OP3 a better choice if you don’t want to haul around a lot of other gear (gimbal etc)…making you less likely to be candidate for a mugging (there is a reason railroads have their own police force 😊). I did prefer the narrower field of view on little Dougie though. Both got a little too dark when lights lower than 50%, though its hard to beat a 1.4 lens. Great video Mark!
Really glad you’re comparing these two. I’ve wondered how they’d stack up against each other. Thank you. Tough choice. They both really have great pluses.
Thanks for the review, I do not have the E10 but the FX30, but like the DJI for its small size. Take it you just bought the camera set, not the creator one. Love the Mic2 included with that creator set, it being able to remotely trigger the camera, and wide angle lens, extended battery and table tripod included for just a few dollars more. Your experience with the DJIs night mode are odd, mine are much much better. Not sure what makes the difference. Especially using the mist filter on the DJI makes for fantastic night shots in cities. I did not expect the DJI to win over your beloved E10, but it finds its place in my gear park. Its smartphone app Mimo is also great, planning to get a smartphone holder for the DJI. Also tested livestreaming to RU-vid, not a perfect workflow getting there, but fun to use. Enjoy the DJI and its active tracking with your kids.
I already ordered the creator pack myself and will send back this basic package. The low light vlog I did was in very dark conditions. A street with barely and light. Regular sixty lights would make it work much better
Definitely at night ZV-E10 is a winner. Personally, I prefer ZV-E10 , it gives you flexibility and many possibilites to change the lens as you wish. The only 2 issues with ZV-e10 that it's bulk and stability which I can overcome by using a gimble or catalyst browse. I will definitely go for the ZV-e10.
No, it is not. He is using a very expensive Sony 11mm 1.6 lens. That's cheating. The clear winner is the Osmo Pocket 3. That's why this is one of my favorites channels, but not on my top list.
This video was very helpful. Something I noticed in yours vs everyone else's is that the Pocket has a very strange, somewhat unpleasant effect with its stabilization compared to the Crane gimbal or the other software stabes. The Pocket keeps the background rock steady, but you appear to jitter around in the frame almost like you're a cardboard cutout being moved around, rather than a person walking. The other stabes had you actually moving, not suddenly jittering from place to place.
I think it’s because I showed a direct comparison so the difference is obvious. Watch the other vids closely and you will see the background is locked but the person isn’t
ya, i just received my osmo pocket 3 two weeks ago. is reall handy easy to use, light weight. especially 4K 120p. slow mo. my zv-e10 with 17-70mm tamron is much heavy together with crane 4 gimbal, heavy to do vlog.
I have the original Pocket and still use it. It is great to be inconspicuous compared to Dougie on a gimbal. If a person just wants something simple DJI is a great choice.
Doug’s clone is what I still use for my talking head videos. ZVE10 is still great. I have the A7IV for photography and ZVE1 for vlogging, but ZVE10 is perfect in a small studio.
MEXICO!!! Yes, this mesaage is from Mexico lol... Sir don't even say no one cares, even I care... so much that thanks to you and your channel I got me a Sony zve10, a Sigma 16mm lens, a Rode video micro, and a Zhiyun crane m3s... and boy oh boy have I learned from you!!! I've learned so much that I started my own vlog, yes a 35 yeard old dude from Mexico who was inspired by your channel... So thank you!!! Besides you are hilarious my man!!!! You are the boss! You probably won't read this, but I wanted to put it out there.
Great review. Like as always. I’ve been looking at that DJI one since it came out. Right now think I’ll just use the funds to buy a lens for my ZV-E10. Iike to see your review of the Sony ZV-1 vs DJI. I have the ZV-1 and like it a lot. That would help me make up my mind.
i have both, i use the osmo p3 often until a month a go the screen issue which some users encountered occurs. i have to return the unit for a repair. Other than that its great as it has 10bit format. its an all around great pocket camera without bringing bulky stuff and bringing extra thing like my zv e10.
Thanks for the channel, I sold an A7iii and bought the creator combo and ended up with cash in my pocket. Now I'm going to sell my gimbal and my Gopro because this thing does it ALL. I'd love to see you chatting with other people on camera in that new studio.
First of all, I care, second, I'd buy the osmo 3 all day long, the zve10 has some issues like the very slow sensor readout, that alone can make it useless with the wrong light at a closed place or at night, the convenience of having a gimbal on your pocket is amazing, I've been using my osmo 1 since it launched for weddings and it has make me good money, I'll go to the States early next year and I'll get the osmo 3, of course this taking is only for video, for photos I've a good old a7r3, I really wish dji starts making some cameras only, their quality is just amazing, osmo 3 for only $500 can record 4k 120p, Sony zv1 for $700 can only do 4k 30p
I 've seen most of you excellent and funny videos! I have zve10 for 5 months now with 4 lenses and I get very nice photos! But for handheld video? I find it a big challenge so I am ready to buy the osmo for my motorcycle traveling videos and keep the little workhorse just for photo shooting! Thank you man!!
The DJI looks so much better than it should. I consider it a much better vlogging setup. Small, lighter, smaller to hold… ZVE10 still has better image quality, but not by that much at least in well lit situations.
I took my old Panasonic DC-GX9 and my DJI OSMO Action 4 with me on my recent 6 weeks in of the Far East. In addition to the aforementioned, I also have my Google Pixel 6 Pro phone with me. Here's the % use of the 3 cameras: DC-GX9: 90% Pixel 6 Pro: 9% Most of the time I just have the Action 4 in my left pocket and my Google Pixel in my right pocket. The Panasonic turned out to be a waste of time. I do quite a bit of walking videos and the Pocket 3 looks like a good addition.
If I had no experience with cameras/manual settings, the Osmo Pocket 3 is a no-brainer. Would even consider getting one for my kids. The onboard audio was noticeably better. The stabilization is good, but it did have a bit of jitter (not sure if you can ever truly get rid of that). However, if you do know how to use manual settings on a camera, I feel like even starting with the zv-e10 with kit lens and a small gimbal would be a huge step up. Then buy a good mic (either wireless or on-camera). Just upgrade accordingly.
I have no experience and just bought the Sony zv e10! for Christmas. I think I’m going to trade it in for the Osmo Pocket 3 because I’m planning lots of international trips this year and will be vlogging about it. I hope I’m making the right decision for now, at least.
@@shawnpreston1639 I think for travel, that Osmo would be great. You can always save up and get a larger body camera system down the line. Enjoy your travels!
I currently have the ZVE-10 but The pocket 3 is definitely my next gear purchase to finally retire my Osmo Action 1 it's served me well. Great video as always! The slow mo hair flick always makes me lol, love ur work Mark 😂
Oh yes, it does the same thing, not really a fan of how the stabilization is working on the DJI, I see some jumping on the subject, is like if the background is lock but the subject moves a lot, is something I was not noticing but now I can't unsee. I was expecting more like the ZV-E10, more stable subject and some movement on the background is acceptable.
it wasn’t to show what an f2 lens on an apsc can do vs an f2 lens on a one inch sensor - that wouldn’t show anything of importance. What is important is to know each camera can do. There are affordable 1.4 and even 1.2 lenses for the zv-e10 - I can’t pretend it’s a fixed f2 lens when it is not. But also, a f2 on an apsc is still much better in lowlight than an f2 on a one inch sensor. You can buy bright lenses for the zv-e10 but it’s bigger and is less stable. the pocket 3 has f2 fixed - so that is what it’s capable of. I designed these tests to be as practical as possible for buyers.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Its not practical to need 3 lenses and a gimbal so show the Zv-e10. The money and the work involved matters to most, when buying a camera.
The ZV-E10 looks awesome. The DJI Pocket 3 is hard to beat for such a small camera. I can buy the DJI Pocket 3 for $519 at Best Buy or Amazon in Kingsport, Tennessee. I have used the Pocket 2 since it came out in September 2020. I will probably buy the Pocket 3.
Great video Mark. Could you make a comparison between the ZV-E1 with a vlog lens, like the 11mm 1.8 and the dji pocket 3? It would be really interesting to see. Thanks mate
Really enjoy your videos, hope you get sponsorships so you can do more comparisons =) I'm using a ZV-E10, really want a beginner proof guide to setup cinematic settings with Leeming Luts and the ZV-E10, start to finish without looking through the PDF (no clue yet on Zebras, or what to make of the different exposure settings and pic profiles)
That video probably wouldn't be very popular - but I will tell you that the GH5 is great and a professional tool with 10-bit 4.2.2 and two card slots and great stabilization - however, it has terrible autofocus and is not good at all in lowlight. Manually focusing everything is difficult. Now if you had a bunch of micro 4/3 lenses and you liked manually focusing, the GH5 is still a great option. But If you want autofocus, better lowlight and access to Sony's amazing lens system, the ZV-E10 will be the way to go
Great channel! Lots of info and test footage👍 tbh, i would not shoot at below 70% ambient light, both will suffer noise..in those cases ill pull out a full frame mirrorless and a 1.2 aperture lens
the Pocket3 is perfect to have. the discreet nature of it. people will not be intimidated by the Pocket3, but when you pull out a camera, irrespective of the size people would no longer be in their natural element. Some locations wold not accept a camera, but would easily allow the Pocket3
Both are great ... but one thing you didn't address was the vertical capabilities of the DJI. If you're interested in vertical content ... the OSMO wins. Plus, it's hard to argue the size factor. Great video Mark ... still lovin your content.
the zv-e10 does automatic vertical video as well. Goes into post in vertical and it’s full 4K and not cropped like the DJI. You do have to turn tha zv-e10, and you don’t with the OSMO though
Hi Mark. What would you think if you started recording a series of episodes on how to choose the best settings for Zve10 to take photos or record videos in various situations? 🤔
Just a side point I have been told that iphone 15 pro max camera is much better than sony zv-e10 kit lens.I can't judge because I am not using either sony zv-e10 nor iphone 15 pro max; Therefore, I wonder if you can make a comparison and guide us which sony zv-e10 lens can outperform the iphone 15 pro max lens. I would like to know before I make a purchase whether to buy the zv-e10 or the iphone 15 pro max as i don't want to spend a fortune on sony zv-e10 lens.
I am a car videographer with a tight budget trying to get clients and I am leaning more towards the Pocket 3 because when I get the Sony I have to buy lens, gimbal, Sd cars and etc, so my question is can I get clients with the Pocket 3?
Great review as always ❤. I have both devices. Could you recommend decent wireless mic (small) which can be able to use for both Pocket 3 & ZVE-10? Thanks
DJI Pocket 3 is now the best camera for vlogging especially if you got Creator Combo with the Wireless Mic 2. It's not ideal ... but it's close to perfection :D. And I say Normal color profile in Pocket 3 is a way to go ... zero color grading needed ... you can upload straight from the SD card :D.
Love your humour Mark 😊 and thx for this review. Eying the DJI Pocket 3 as well, for the same reasons. But now Insta360 introduced the Ace Pro, which looks very interesting, too...analysis paralysis🤪
I noticed what looked like frame drops / Choppiness for the DJI when vlogging, where the Sony remained smooth, most noticeable at the train tracks. I know that thing is not overheating in Canada at this time of year :) . is it choppy sometimes? or is it a an artifact of the gimble? excellent video as always
Can i ask you a question I have a stage show and looking for a camera that I can use to video about two hours and then reselll the video. What do you think would be best?
also i would add, no 4k60p on zv, but pocket 3 has both 4k60p and 4k120p. and also using catalyst doesn't work well in low light, it would require high shutter speed which introduces more noise in low light! dji pocket for the win.
Thanks Mark, very interesting comparison, the DJI does a great job. I now mostly use my ZV-E10 with OBS thanks to its HDMI output, it simplifies my workflow. Do you know if the Osmo Pocket 3 can be used easily this way too ? Is there a HDMI output ? Is the USB output good enough ?
1. We all care. 2. I ended up canceling my DJI order. Over a month with no shipping & no answer for when it would be available. I was so annoyed, I ended up canceling in a fit of pique. 3. Nice hair shots. 4. Now that I don’t have the DJI, I’ve got FOMO instead. 😂
@@allthecommonsensethey might’ve finally caught up. I ordered mine on 10/29/23 for a trip at the end of November. So when I didn’t get it for the trip, I cancelled the order.
Excellent video as always. By the way, I just purchased the ZV-E10 and the Sigma lens you always mention. They better be good, or I'm taking your FX30 :) Hold the emergency. I'm trying to vlog here, hahaha:P
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Hey Mark! Do you have any videos showing the best way to use the webcam for the ZV-E10? I'm planning to use it not just for talking head shots but also in front of a computer with a green screen. I would appreciate it if you could help, especially with a Sigma lens Or do I need any other lenses for this purpose? Also FX30 is now 1599$ should I use zv-e10 for now or should I get FX30. Talking head and webcam purpose? Thank you
Got to the part where you are comparing Low Light. I would disagree about results and would like to ask a favor to check if you have manual exposure ISO set to variable and not static, which looks like you were at ISO 800 on pocket (static). I have completely different results for low light and image is way brighter in complete darkness even without using DJI night mode.
It was on variable - but it was in a very dark environment. You see the ZV-e10 with a brighter lens and iso of 32000 wasn’t great either, the DJI only goes to iso 16,000 and it was too dark for that.
damn that pocket 3 is good for the size and money. the way i see is the ZV-E10 is an awesome base: looking for a budget wildlife camera ? get ZV-E10 + good zoom lens looking for a budget studio camera ? get ZV-E10 + one of many great lenses looking for a vlogging camera get ZV-E10 + sony 11MM or 16MM + gimbal looking for a great webcam ? ZV-E10 with kit lens or sigma 16MM + camlink 4K the ZV-E10 have amazing flexibility to do everything but it will cost u some serious $$ (relative to phone/action cam/pocket 3) to do it and the size too. the Pocket 3 give up some of that flexibility to give u ton of valve mainly for vlogging, b-roll and even the studio and webcam options are nice. ** i think that park will be ready just in time for your children's childrens :P
