@@xdeakanx appears most of the time next to scorpion, lui kang and raiden. She wasn’t playable in deception and mk 2 though. But she is mentioned in iconic mk song(while Kitana is not for example at least in the most popular version).

I doubt that Sonya will be playable in the next MK, because of the ending of MK11, Fire God Liu Kang was seeing in the timeline of the great Kung Lao, and acording to MK1, that was 500 years before the tournament of the first MK, so Sonya isn't born yet

I don't think the story will be happening in the great Kung Lao times since almost all of the characters won't be playable and I doubt Netherrealm would want to take such risk. Liu Kang's ending was basically their attempt to tell us what route they are gonna to take. But I still wouldn't rely on that cause we already had a dark Raiden teaser and we all how that ended up
