Keith Richards and Mick Jaggers vocal harmonies are the most underrated aspect of the Stones.

Biz, you have to listen to "Can't You Hear Me Knocking". It's like between Wild Horses and Gimme Shelter. Killer riff to start then mid way killer saxophone. Smooth guitar. It's off the Sticky Fingers Album.

The Stones are the most difficult band to assess because of their vast songbook. “Beast of Burden” is one of their greatest grooves, so I’d definitely recommend that one.

This is from my generation...imagine hearing this from the Stones (who rarely did ballads) back then. Instant love and satisfaction. I am a singer, and couldn't sing a Stones song properly - until this one. Great melody, great arrangement.

"Wild Horses" anchors The Rolling Stones 1971 album, Sticky Fingers, which ranks high among the best rock records ever made -- "Brown Sugar", "Sway", "Wild Horses", "Can't You Hear Me Knocking", "You Gotta Move", "Bitch", "I Got the Blues", "Sister Morphine", "Dead Flowers", "Moonlight Mile" -- classic! The album shown on the track you pulled up, Hot Rocks 1964-1971, is a double record compilation album full of their greatest hits. I bought that album back when I was a teenager. In the old days, record company executives often released compilations to get a double dip out of artist's catalogs. And consumers liked them because it meant buying one record from an artist instead of two or three or more over time. Another great compilation from them was called Made in the Shade. I bought that one too back in the day and played the hell out of it as well. When I got older and had more disposable income, I bought Sticky Fingers on CD -- and played the hell out of it too! [grin]

I was about to say I bought that one just for 'I Don't Know Why', a Stevie Wonder cover with a stinging slide lead, but that may have been 'Metamorphosis'. Yep, it was the latter. oops ;>D

Odd fun fact: Jim Dickinson, house band musician for the Muscle Shoals Studio where this was recorded, had to play the piano because Ian Stewart, who was the unofficial Rolling Stone who played all their keyboard parts over several decades, disliked playing so many minor chords in one song.

It’s true. Jim Dickinson is the answer to that trivia question. Duane Allman was around too. Jagger starts the third line, first verse of “Brown Sugar” which they also recoded at the same time at Muscle Shoals, with “Skydog…”

The Stones are a great band with a deep catalog. Their run of albums starting with Beggars Banquet (last album with Brian Jones), Let it Bleed, Sticky Fingers, Exile on Main Street, Goats Head Soup and It's Only Rock and Roll was awesome. These were primarily the Mick Taylor years. Ron Wood replaced Mick Taylor right after It's Only Rock and Roll was finished.
@nickcrisp7252
@nickcrisp7252 2 года назад
The Stones have done rock, blues, reggae, disco...you name it. Just keep going with all of it! For another ballad I always liked, try "Worried About You" from the Tattoo You" album. Mick Jagger on point with his falsetto, and a nice guitar solo from Ron Wood. I'd recommend the album "Exile On Main Street" (1972) for a track-by-track album review. And as others have said, don't miss "Can't You hear Me Knocking". Starts with some hard riffing but has a surprise in store for the uninitiated ;)

For a rock effort from this group, try Gimme Shelter, which was also the title of an epic film that chronicled the Altamont Concert where Hell's Angels provided security. Concert ended when a man was killed (stabbed to death) near the stage. Stones were rushed out of the outdoor concert. Movie ended with Stones exiting in a helicopter, the crowd below in chaos. Btw, a member of Jefferson Airplane was knocked out by Hells angels earlier in the concert. Grateful Dead refused to go on stage because of the bad security situation. It didn't stop Stones from going on stage but maybe they wished they hadn't. Woodstock organizers were determined not to have an Altamont repeat and they succeeded in that goal a year later with the Woodstock concert. Woodstock was largely peaceful.
@anthonyhedberg6471
@anthonyhedberg6471 2 года назад
Actually, they both took place in 1969. Woodstock was first, in August of 1969, and Altamont was later that year, in December of 1969. In fact, Altamont was loosely referred to by some as Woodstock West. 🤔

Another great reaction, and I’ve been watching a lot of them. The Stones have such a big catalog to explore. As they got into the 1990’s the whole albums weren’t as good, but there are still great tracks to be found. But hey, there’s a long road to travel just during their more classic era. You are the Biz!

Legend has it that Keith Richards’ buddy Gram Parsons wrote or co-wrote this song. They’ve always denied it, but it’s Parsons’ style, they were playing together a lot then, and Jagger and Richards, who have always been stingy with writing credits and money in general, allowed Parsons, with his band The Flying Burrito Brothers, to record and release the song a full year before the Stones did, which sounds like some kind of compromise deal. I’ve also seen the last line of this as “Let’s do some living after love dies.”

I read somewhere Keith wrote the first three verses, mick the rest. At that time Mick was doing a movie with Keith’s girlfriend. Keith stole that girl from Eric Clapton so he was afraid mick might take her. The tension between these two guys was immense. Mick sang about how he made her cry, now she is making him feel the pain, they were hurting each other. Now they don’t have enough time together.

Break up song, but he’s not letting go. He can’t let her slide through his hands. No matter how she disrespects him or ignores him, he doesn’t feel bitter toward her. He’s playin the fool and hopes he can be with her after they’re gone from this world. That’s just my 2 cents worth. The Stones are truly great, raw, and wonderful, funky, sleazy, and gentle sometimes, but always good! Love all your other reaction videos, too. So much good music from the mid 50’s until now, and even further back when you dive into the original blues artists of the 20’s, 30’s and 40’s. Love you’re lyrical analysis! It gives a new perspective. I think that the important meaning is the listeners interpretation. Some songs are literal and mean what they mean, but others have lyrics that are more abstract. Wild Horses has both and it’s been fun decoding it with you. Much love from Austin, Tejas

Seems to me that he cheated on her and now she has paid him back. “Faith has been broken” but he knows he had it coming and he forgives her and realizes how much they love each other, thus “Wild horses couldn’t drag me away” to me the line “Let’s do some living after we die” they’re going to carry on and do better after they basically destroyed each other.
