It is enjoyable and an impressive learning experience observing the operational components of a steam locomotive, Soo Line 1003 is a fine example of Midwestern steam power and I really enjoy seeing footage of the 1003 in operation.

Great looking and sounding locomotive; terrific shape for its age. There are some very large loco's out West in Wyoming and Oregon. I believe they are all oil burners and are much younger; built in the mid to late 40's. UP has preserved a 4-8-8-4 Big Boy and a 4-8-4 Northern. In Portland there is another 4-8-4, #4449 with SP livery. Kudos to all who keep these things going.

Delay in Block Productions There is a Christmas train like this but in Portland, Oregon called the holiday express. The motive power is a little lager than 2-8-2s more like the Spokane, Portland and Seattle 700 (4-8-4 Northern) or the Southern Pacific Daylight 4449 (4-8-4 Northern, also the locomotive to pull the train this year) or see them any time at the Oregon Rail Heritage Center located in Portland, Oregon. Hope to see you there one of these years. Link to the website www.orhf.org Hope you found this interesting. Please take it in to consideration. Karl, a loyal subscriber

You guys lied about 1003 being the only operating Soo Line steam locomotive operating this day in age you forgot about the Soo Line 353 out at the Western Minnesota Steam Threshers Reunion at Rollag Minnesota she too is operational but yes you are correct that 1003 is the largest operating Soo locomotive today since 353 is an 0-6-0

Well at least they should have some more passenger cars so that SOO 1003 can run regular excursions around the WSOR, like PM 1225, which runs excursions around the GLC.

Whenever I see these modern day crews, although I'm highly appreciative of them, all I can think is "I bet a professional hogger from 1930 would have shook his head at them as he watched them work".
@Chasingrail
@Chasingrail 4 года назад
Actually, this crew is a very good crew. I think it’s slightly different, but Ken Ristow, the engineer, is part of IRM’s steam club (I think), and the lack of smoke and just tons of white smoke shows that they know how to run it.
