A hobbit party sounds fun to cater for! I’d totally have tables full of sausages, bread, pastries, tea, cake, cupcakes, cheese, fruit, etc. for breakfast, second breakfast, elevensies, lunch, tea…
I'm thinking this is mainly the result of Sookie wanting to do a really really impressive job on one of her first ventures, especially since she booked this party herself. So she pulled all the stops and went super impressive fancy, which to her means haute cuisine, creative takes on classics, and using every technique in her book. I also think she focused on the parents as her 'clients', NOT the kids. The cherry on top is that Sookie has a well-established stubborn streak when it comes to convincing (i.e. forcing) people to like the food she makes as-is when they're doubting they'll like it because she did something creative and out there.
I believe Sookie subconsciously did this. She got freaked out by being pregnant and thought she could be good with winging it. Sookie was then upset because she realized Lorelei was correct and she screwed up the kids birthday party, and how could she be a mom, etc etc
i love sookie but i really didn’t understand her here. she was best friends with lorelai while rory was growing up, how is it possible she wouldn’t know how to make kid’s food?
I'm a problem solver but this crisis would have been way over my league! I like Lorelai's quick thinking and spot on decision making. About Sookie not knowing what to cook for children (having raised Rory with Lorelei) I'd say she actually doesn't know. She knows what to cook for the girls, but she doesn't understand the social patterns beyond her small circle of acquaintances. And let's be honest, there's no children food chapter in traditional (french) cuisine.
This plot line was so stupid. Sookie cater’s to Lorelai and Rory’s childish taste buds by making them stuff like mac n cheese multiple times in the show. She goes to cater a children’s party and suddenly doesn’t know what to serve kids?😊
Prob because she knows lore and Rory to know exactly what would like AND she still puts her twist on it and they eat it not to mention they also enjoy the high end foods from the Gilmore dinners so their tastes are very well rounded.
I remember Sookie knew in another episode that kid’s preferred peanut butter and jelly sandwiches vs salmon sandwiches. Emily made her redo it with Salmon sandwiches though in that episode. Now Sookie all of a sudden needs to be told by Lorelei what kids would actually want? So inconsistent.
This was so unlike Sookie characters this was more like Monica Geller character could the hormones or something. But I didn’t like her behavior very clueless and rude shouting to a child a big No No. I can’t imagine her ever yelling at Rory when she was little. But yeah I didn’t like this side of her she’s always cute and bubbly so is ridiculous with her personality she couldn’t cater a kids a party. Cmon is Sookie for crying out loud she’s has a mindset of a child this should have been a piece of cake for her again I say it could have been her pregnancy. I heard it does turn you like a total different person, who knows?
Even Monica as a chef could have understand what a kid would have wanted. This was either just Sookie dealing through pregnancy not thinking straight at all or the writers breaking logic to make a plotline happen.
I think she was thinking more about the parents and what the parents would eat instead of the children to showcase to the parents that she's the best cook in Stars Hollow so they would go to the Inn to eat as well as have her cater more grown up events in the future. Also, with both of her pregnancies, she was more nutty than usual as I recall. Was this her first or second pregnancy?
Sookie was the most annoying character on the show and often stupid plot lines like this one didn't help. It makes no sense she wouldn't know what kids eat
That's like $10k+ worth of catering or something equally ridiculous, which no one would be spending on a kiddie "hobbit party". How were they going to make a profit on this venture?
